I hope you can excuse the terrible title. I couldn't think of one better. Although I hope the actual story is better.

    Chapter 0 - Prelude in a Storm.

The rain lashed down heavily on Cinnabar Island. The sound of the rain hitting the ground and buildings was loud to a young trainer's ears as he dashed madly for the Pokemon Centre.

With a sigh of relief, the trainer entered the Centre, wiping his soaked forehead with his hand. It was warm in here. That would him dry off quicker.
"My, it's really coming down," Nurse Joy commented in a conversational manner to the trainer.

"Yeah." The trainer sighed. From his tone, he wasn't in the best of spirits. Joy picked up on his mood.
"So, how'd your gym battle go?" she asked with a bright smile, although she knew the answer.
"Not so well." the trainer approached the counter, Lightning now flashing outside.

"Oh dear, well I'm sure you'll do better next time!" Joy encouraged, taking his offered Pokeballs. Her Pokemon Assistant, Chansey, was preparing a machine behind her. This Machine rejuvenated tired Pokemon nearly instantly.
Placing the trainers five Pokeballs inside the machine, she switched it on. The Pokeballs flashed momentarily with the Lightning outside.

After a moment, the machine powered down, its job complete. Chansey carefully took out the Pokeballs and handed them to Nurse Joy, who in turn handed them to the trainer.
"Just train some more. Blaine is strong, but I'm sure you have the potential to win!" Joy encouraged some more.
Thunder crackled outside as the boy accepted his Pokemon. "Yeah, I'm sure I will."

With a smile, Nurse Joy turned and entered a room behind her. The room was used for Pokemon who couldn't be healed by the machine, and it was time to check up an Ivysaur that had nearly drowned yesterday.

The trainer now turned to his right, and walked towards a PC. Placing his Pokeballs on a table, except one, he logged onto the PC. He started up the Storage Program.
"You cost me that match." The trainer muttered, remembering the two on two battle he had with Blaine. Blaine's Rapidash was taken out by Dugtrio, but then his Magmar took it down. His hopes ran on the Porygon he recently caught. He was told it was a Powerful Pokemon, but Magmar took it down quicker than Dugtrio. Completely useless.

Placing the Pokeball on a special teleporter, he clicked 'Deposit'. Never again would he use such a weakling. It would stay in there until he could trade it or something.
Just as the Pokeball containing Porygon was being transferred, thunder struck the Centre's antennae. The signal for the computer messed up, powering down mid transfer.

The trainer was gripped with fear. What happened? Did the Pokemon make it to his box? Was it all right?
'Wait, why do I care?' he wondered. He hated the weak thing. At least this way, it wasn't wasting space.
The computer switched back on, the power restored for now. More lightning flashed outside, but the trainer stared at the computer screen in shock. what was he looking at?

The screen showed something peculiar. It was... a scrambled mess of pinkish red pixels from the look of it. The graphics card must have been damaged. But what about his Box?
The trainer was about to try and access his box when suddenly, a garbled noise came from the computer. The trainer freaked out and jumped back. The noise continued, screeching a horrible cry. It was like someone jumbled up notes on an 8-bit music player.

Finally, it stopped, and the trainer could lower his hands from his ears. What the hell was that? Maybe he should get Nurse Joy...
The pinkish red jumble of pixels flickered. It seemed to move closer to the screen. Was it... Was it looking at him? Could it see? What the hell was it?!
The trainer stepped back uneasily. He cleared his throat, trying to call Nurse Joy, but this computer was freaking him out.

Suddenly, the screen smashed, glass flying outward. the trainer yelled and covered his face with his arms. Luckily, the glass missed him, but smoke was coming from the computer. More thunder and lightning crashed overhead as the rain pelted the island.
"What happened? Are you okay, Jerry?!" Joy shouted, running to the counter in alarm.
The trainer, Jerry, stood where he was, looking at the smoke blowing computer. He couldn't see anything through it. He could see Joy running towards him, yelling if he was okay.

"Oh no, the computer!" She gasped as he reached Jerry's side. "How did that-"
They both froze when something emerged from the smoke. It was... Inhuman. Not even a Pokemon. It was... was...
"That thing...That's the glitch on the screen?" Jerry muttered in terror as the pixelled entity slowly floated forward.
"W-w-what is that?" Joy stammered in terror. Chansey had come to investigate now, and it froze at the site of the creature.

The entity, once a Pokemon, floated towards the group. It knew the young boy. It didn't know why any more, but this trainer.. hated it. Hate filled the entity, despising the trainer that had apparently wronged him. It began to glow.
"W-what's it-?" Joy stammered again, but before she could finish, the entity launched forward, too fast for them to follow.
No one in the Island heard the screams over the storm that night.

Edit: Thanks Astinus, for pointing out the errors.

Gasp! MissingNo! lol That's great, good job, although it's sort of obvious its Porygon

Hey there! Decided to stop in and read and review your chapter. Hope you don't mind.

I can't put my finger on as to why, but I can say that I did enjoy the way you wrote this. The mood was set quite well.

With grammar, you can do with a bit of polishing.

The rain lashed down heavily on Cinnabar Island. the sound of the rain hitting the ground and buildings was loud to a young trainer's ears as he dashed madly for the Pokemon Centre.
Here, I don't know if you were looking for a comma after "island", or just missed the capitalization. But it works better if it remains as two sentences, so "the sound" needs to be capitalized.

That would him dry of quicker.
    Sure you mean "off".

Just as the Pokeball containing Porygon was being transerred, Thunder struck the Centre's antennae.
    "transferred, thunder"

The Signal for the computer messed up, powering down mid transfer.
"signal" doesn't need to be capitalized.

    was it all right?
    "Was" needs to be capitalized.

The Computer switched back on, the power restored for now. More Lightning flashed outside, but the trainer stared at the Computer screen in shock. what was he looking at?
Both "computers" and "lightning" don't need to be capitalized.

The Pinkish red jumble of pixels flickered.
"pinkish" does not need to be capitalized.

More Thunder and Lightning crashed overhead a the rain pelted the Island.
"thunder", "lightning", and "island" don't need to be capitalized. Also, "a" should be "as".

He could Joy running towards him, yelling if he was okay.
You're missing a "see" between "could" and "Joy".

Dialogue punctuation can be tricky, so I'll help you out a bit.

"My, it's really coming down." Nurse Joy commented in a conversational manner to the trainer.
Here, the full stop after "down" should be a comma, because what follows after it describes how the dialogue was spoken. So it's all one sentence, connected that way. Most of your dialogue in this chapter is set like that, so that's how you do that.

"So, how'd your gym battle go?" She asked with a bright smile, although she knew the answer.
Now here, you keep the question mark, but "she asked" is lower-cased. Once again, you're describing the way the dialogue was spoken, so it's all one sentence.

'Wait, why do I care?' He wondered.
Just like with here, "he" doesn't need to be capitalized because you're describing his thoughts. So it's all one sentence.

Really, you just need to proof-read this a bit more to catch those capitalization mistakes. It'll just clean the story up a little.

Looking forward to seeing more of this, and I hope I helped out a little.

Heh heh, yeah. I figured a Pokemon based on a computer program would make a bit more sense for this.

Chapter 1 - The Champion Returns

Flying high over Pallet Town, a large dragon-like Pokemon floated high above. This orange beast, Charizard, was one of the Pokemon belonging to the newest Champion, Red.

Red sat carefully on Charizard's back, making sure not to fall off. It was great to be going home. When he left this town, he was just a newbie who knew nothing of being a Pokemon Trainer, and now he returned as Kanto's best Trainer. Beating Green for the Championship was pretty awesome too.

The large Pokemon glided lower and lower, towards the centre of town. Charizard remembered when it was just a Charmander, and was chosen by Red to be his first partner. He was inexperienced, but wanted to be useful to his new trainer. And now the Charmander had grown up to be a mighty Charizard.

The Pokemon landed neatly in town, with quite a crowd growing. When Red hopped off Charizard, he heard an excited young voice shouting, "It's him! It's Red!"
Suddenly, what seemed to be the whole town was crowding round him and Charizard. Red tipped his hat further down his face and smiled shyly. It was embarrassing to be the centre of attention like this.

"Come on, make way! Make way!" another voice called. A young girl pushed herself forward. Red recognised her immediately. His Rival's sister, Daisy.
"That was some match." Daisy commented as she approached Red. "I saw it all on T.V. It was so exciting!"
Red smiled back. He was about to ask if she was supporting Green when Professor Oak came forward too.

"You've certainly come a long way, Red." Oak praised, extending his hand and stroking Charizard's neck. "From beginning Trainer to Champion. And it only took you ten months."
"Oh, there's my little Champion!" Yet another voice cried out, and Red immediately recognised this one too. suddenly, a woman shot forward and enveloped him in a bone breaking hug.

"Oh, my little Red, I've missed you so much! You could have come visit me, y'know! You can fly anywhere and you don't even stop by for five minutes..."
Red struggled to break free of the hug, his protestations inaudible muffles.
At the back of the crowd, leaning against a signpost, was a boy with spiky brown hair, a blue shirt, and a scowl.

Green understandably wasn't happy about Red becoming Champion. That was taken from him. Even though Green was forced to accept Red as Champion, he didn't like it. Even if he respected Red for his strength a little.
"Well, at least until two minutes ago, my strength was recognised by this town." Green muttered to himself, walking to his house with his hands in his pockets.

Roughly an hour later, when everyone in town had finished praising him (and occasionally Green) Red was back in his old room, lying on his bed. Charizard had been left in the front garden with his other Pokemon for the town to talk with.

The rest of Red's team composed of:
Pikachu, from Viridian Forest. It had been his first capture.
Bulbasaur, which had resided on the road between Mt. Moon's exit and Cerulean City.
Wartortle, which he found as a Squirtle near Vermillion City.
Snorlax, which had been causing problems by blocking a road to Vermillion City.
And Eevee, which had joined him because its previous owner treated it like a tool rather than a friend.

They all played happily with the younger town residents as Red familiarised himself with his old room. Oak and his mother were downstairs talking about something or other. Maybe his recent victory. It was nice that he was a local celebrity now, but he hoped he wouldn't constantly be stopped in the street to be praised. For all he knew, there would come a day when he would be beaten by an even better Trainer. Always someone better, as they say.

After checking out his old PC, Red switched on the T.V. There was a news broadcast on. As far as he knew, the biggest news was him, but this about something different.
"This just in! There are reports of monstrously strong Pokemon near Cinnabar Islands Coast!" A reporter was declaring. Through a live broadcast, the reporter was on a boat, the camera facing the Direction of Cinnabar.

"It's been deemed to dangerous to move closer for fear of attack by these Pokemon, but it seems Cinnabar is under siege!" The Reporter continued frantically.
"Hold on... I've just been told that P.T.V.'s own 'Fearow-Cam' is being dispatched over Cinnabar for aerial Viewing!" The reporter declared, his hand to his ear. No doubt listening through an earpiece.

The T.V. went static for a second as camera broadcast's were shifted. Then a birds eye view of Cinnabar Island flashed on screen.
Red's eyes widened when he saw the display. the camera (Which would be attacked to the Fearow's neck) slowly rotated as the Fearow circled the island. He could sea a lot of buildings had been destroyed. Had the Pokemon done that?

"From what we can see, the Pokemon have rampaged through Cinnabar!" A Voice narrated in an excited voice. "There are no people outside, and it is assumed they were safely evacuated to the Cinnabar Volcano, where Resident Gym Leader Blaine, who had sent a mysterious S.O.S. message, conducts his training!"

Suddenly, the Fearow screeched in surprise, and the camera moved around frantically as the Fearow manoeuvred, apparently to dodge an attack.
"The Fearow is being attacked! This is bad, it's been spotted!" The voice shouted, now in alarm. "Come back Fearow! Return quickly!"
The Fearow tried evading an attack from the Pokemon, just a tiny Pidgey. The Fearow couldn't understand how a timid bird like that would find the courage to attack, but Fearow could sense something horribly wrong with it. It exuded an aura that didn't belong to a creature of this world.

The Reporter, unable to see the attacker, was still commanding Fearow to retreat. It flew by the Pidgey, heeding the wishes of its trainer. The Pidgey watched Fearow with an intense glare. Suddenly, it launched a Quick attack, striking the Fearow.
The blow, normally weak coming from a Pidgey, knocked the Fearow out in one strike. With a surprised shriek, the Fearow plummeted to the ground as the Pidgey launched another Quick Attack, severely injuring the Pokemon in its descent.

The camera went dead when it hit the ground, and Red stared at his T.V. in disbelief. What had happened to that Fearow? Something big must have knocked it down. The Reporter was silent with shock, unable to believe their Pokemon was knocked out the sky.

'Whatever's happening in that Island...' Red thought to himself. 'I have to check this out. Something's horribly wrong there. I just know it.'

Chapter 2 - Off to Cinnabar!

Red walked downstairs, thinking of the situation at Cinnabar. The place was being attacked by powerful Pokemon from the look of it. It had gotten so bad that Blaine had to evacuate the place, and probably couldn't handle the threat himself.

Red entered the living room, where Professor Oak and his mother had been talking. The T.V. down here was on the news channel too, and they were watching intently. Red's mother looked worried, while Oak wore a puzzled frown.

"Ah, Red. Have you seen the news?" Oak asked, noticing him. Before Red could reply, Oak continued talking as if he had.
"The situation looks pretty bad. And very odd. The Pokemon have no reason to attack the Island this this..."
"And it's so close to home too!" Red's mother added. Cinnabar Island was indeed one water route south of Pallet Town, and at the minimum, just a one hour's swim away on a fast Pokemon.

"Hmm. I wonder if Team Rocket had anything to do with this..." Oak continued, apparently not listening to others concerns.
Team Rocket was a criminal organisation that had been causing trouble throughout Kanto. Red ended up fighting them on several occasions. After thwarting them at Celadon City, Lavender Town and Saffron City, Red beat their leader, Giovanni at the Viridian Gym.

But it was thought Team Rocket had disbanded. They were beaten by a travelling ten year old, that enough would shame any organisation for eternity. Besides, what would they gain by attacking Cinnabar like this?
"But if it's not Team Rocket, then what's the cause..." Oak muttered, and looked at Red.
"Red, I'm reluctant to ask this of you, but seeing as you're the Champion, can I trust that you can investigate the matter and keep out of trouble?"
"No! Absolutely not!" Red's mother protested loudly, and stood up. She glared at Oak reproachfully.

"Didn't you see what happened to that poor Fearow? What if the same happens to Red? I can't let that happen!"
Red was about to argue that he could handle something like this, when Professor Oak calmly argued his point.
'I've noticed I've had difficulty speaking the past ten months...' Red realised as he let Oak handle it.

"Look, Delilah, I can see why you're worried, but Red is Kanto's Champion remember? He's overcame many obstacles to get where he is today." Oak told her. Delilah was going to protest further but Oak cut her off.
"And I'm not sending Red alone. I'll send Green to assist in case Red is attacked, and I'll be contacting the League Association for assistance on the matter."

Delilah looked at her son with worry. She knew Red had become strong in his travels, but in her eyes, Red was still her ten year old little boy.
"Red, can you really handle this?" Delilah asked. Red grinned and nodded.
"Thank you Red." Oak said gratefully. "Let's go inform Green then."

"Ha! Why should I?" Green argued with Oak, who looked very impatient right now. For fifteen minutes, he had been arguing with his grandson about helping Red.
"Because he may need your help, as I've said. Both of you are the bes-"
"Both? Funny, all I've been hearing is 'Red's the best! No equal!', but now that Red can't handle a few measly Pokemon, you have to suck up to me?"
Oak sighed in frustration. His grandson was still very immature indeed.

"Green, you remember what I said at the Pokemon League after you lost?" Oak asked Green, who just leaned against the wall in his room, looking at the ground.
"That I need to treat my Pokemon Better." Green said.
"And if you treat your Pokemon as equals, and not tools, you can be as strong as Red." Oak continued. "I know it, and Red knows it. You're a powerful Trainer, and he wants your help."

Green sighed, annoyed. Although he still held a grudge against Red for taking his title, he did respect him... And that last battle was enjoyable, even if he didn't show it.
"Fine, I'll hold his hand if he's too scared to go." Green finally let up. Oak smiled, pleased he's finally gotten that out of the way.
"Just remember, if you're forced to fight the Pokemon, don't go over your head." Oak reminded him, as he left for his lab. He had to contact the League Association.

Five minutes later, Green emerged from his house, and saw Red in his own yard, kneeling down and petting his Eevee.
"Hey Red! We have work to do!" Green called. Red looked around and spotted Green walking over, hands in his pockets. He looked like he was trying to come across as aloof or something.
Red recalled his Eevee, and took out Charizard's Pokeball. Green had the Pokeball holding his Pidgeot in his hand.
"Hmph. you're lucky I'm nice enough to help ya out, Red." Green said in an annoyed tone. "So let's get this over with."
Green threw his Pokeball into the air, and Pidgeot appeared the ball. The large bird Pokemon stood beside Green, waiting for him to climb onto its back.

'Still a bit bitter, I guess.' Red wondered. Still, he was glad Green was helping him out. If anything, they could save Cinnabar quicker. Red brought out his Charizard, who breathed a little smoke from its nostrils.
Both trainers climbed upon their Pokemon and they took off. Some townspeople watched them leave, the few people who hadn't seen the news wondering where they were going. Those who did could make a good guess.

The Pokemon flew south, towards Cinnabar, Pidgeot slightly ahead. Pidgeot's were pretty fast flying Pokemon, and Charizard would struggle to keep up in a race, but Red knew better than to compete while racing off for reconnaissance.
"Hey Red! Make sure ya don't get in my way!" Green called back, his voice carried by the wind. Red's answer was unheard by Green, again carried away by the wind.

    Chapter 3 - Who's that Pokemon? It's...

Red and Green grew steadily closer to Cinnabar Island, both saying nothing. Even if they wanted to converse with each other, the wind would blow their voices away from each other (Or more accurately, Red's voice wouldn't reach Green).

Red kept wondering about the Pokemon attacking Cinnabar. It would have to be native Pokemon, but that would mostly be Water Pokemon, right? And there was an abandoned building that housed more. But where they really enough to attack and overtake the island?
'These Pokemon might be controlled by someone... But who? And what if they aren't?' Red wondered. Even if he was Champion, he still didn't have encyclopaedic knowledge to rival a Pokedex yet.

Speaking of which, did he still have his? Red fished around in his jacket pocket. Yeah, it was still there. If the Pokemon at Cinnabar where maybe new species, he could maybe collect data on them once they'd been subdued.

The island came into view. they were probably still about three miles away, but that distance could be closed quickly. Charizard and Pidgeot continued their flight, with their trainers prepared for encounters.
Red looked down at the sea below them. Vaguely, he could see a dark shadow underneath them. At first he thought it was just Charizard's shadow, but he realised the shape looked wrong. A wild Pokemon was keeping up with them under water?

Suddenly, the Pokemon burst out of the water. A blue, snake-like Pokemon with a wide, gaping mouth launched at Charizard, a white Light gathering in its mouth.
'Hyper Beam!' Red realised. Charizard glanced below, then veered right as the Gyarados launched a massive beam of energy at them.
'Is that one of the Pokemon attacking the island?' Red wondered. Gyarados were pretty rampant when they wanted to be, but this one seemed... Different. As if the rage it apparently exuded wasn't there.

Immediately, the Gyarados swam back underwater, apparently unfazed at launching such an attack. It acted like it was still at full energy.
'No wonder the Pokemon were a handful.' Red thought to himself as Charizard warily hovered. Green's Pidgeot had stopped and hovered a few metres away.
"Red! What was that!?" Green called. Red was about to reply when the Gyarados burst out of the water underneath them again.

Charizard flew forward, trying to get behind the Gyarados. It followed them with its gaze, gathering more energy in its mouth.
Red was amazed that the Gyarados was firing another Hyper Beam so soon. Pokemon normally had to rest for a moment before continuing, but this Pokemon acted like it was merely firing bubbles.

Charizard attempted to intercept the attack and shot a stream of fire at the Gyarados. Flamethrower was normally ineffective against Water Types, but this was the fastest way to intercept.
The Gyarados moved back, away from the fire, still charging its energy. Red gritted his teeth, wondering where the Pokemon got such power.

Suddenly, something slammed into the back of Gyarados's head, stopping the attack. Pidgeot appeared next to Charizard, with Green glaring at Red.
"Some Champion you are. Can't handle a measly Gyarados?" Gary taunted, and noticed Red was still staring at the Gyarados, now with extreme shock and disbelief.
Frowning, Green followed his gaze, then gasped. "W-what the-?"
The Gyarados seemed frozen in placed. It wasn't moving at all. It seemed to float there, half submerged in water.

Suddenly, the Gyarados... transformed? Neither trainer could describe properly what they saw next. The Gyarados suddenly became blocky and impossible to make out. As if it was a graphical glitch on an old computer.
"Red, w-what's happening?" Green asked in shock. Red simply stared at the Pokemon, dumbfounded.
Red suddenly remembered his Pokedex, and quickly pulled it out. He pointed the 'Dex towards the 'graphical mess' and scanned it.

"Missing Number. No Pokemon Data." The Pokedex said in its electronic voice.
'Missing Number? That means this is undiscovered?' Red wondered. 'Or is it even a Pokemon?'
The Gyarados let out a screeching yell, forcing the Trainers and Charizard to cover their ears (Pidgeot had no way of blocking out the sound, and suffered the full volume) before suddenly disappearing, as if it was never there. No sound, no flashy lights to indicate.

The Trainers sat atop their Pokemon, while the Pokemon themselves hovered in place, their wings beating steady ripples upon the surface of the water below them.
"Red... I think this is a full blown crisis here." Green muttered. Red nodded in agreement. This didn't seem to be a clear cut case of angry, rampaging Pokemon. This was something entirely different.

Should they continue themselves, and face more 'Pokemon' like that?

Ha! I love it, great job. its hilarious how Red is always convieniently unable to speak. Very good piece

    Chapter 4 - Sending Reinforcements

While Red and Green were travelling to Cinnabar Island, Professor Oak had called Lance at the Pokemon League. A T.V monitor allowed Oak and Lance to talk 'face to face'. Lance wore an expression of puzzlement and concern when told of the situation at Cinnabar.

"So the Champ and Old Champ are there now?" Lance asked once Oak finished explaining.
"They're on their way. It'll be a while before they reach the island." Oak told him, checking the clock on the wall to his right.
Lance thought the Cinnabar situation. Indeed, it was unheard of for a swarm of powerful Pokemon to assault a populated area like that.

"Any idea of the cause?" Lance enquired. Oak shook his head.
"Nope. I'd considered Team Rocket, but I don't think they're in a position to do anything like this."
Oak and Lance lapsed into thoughtful silence. This was indeed mysterious.

"Hmm... Come to think of it, there was a storm in the southern areas..." Oak muttered. Lance glanced at Oak, eyebrow raised.
"A storm? Hmm... I'd heard about that, but why would bad weather anger those Pokemon?"
Oak sighed in puzzlement. Indeed, a storm shouldn't set off a rampage like this. Perhaps it was just coincidence then.

"Anyway, you'll want our assistance right?" Lance asked.
"Yes, I'm worried that those two'll go in over their heads." Oak told him, hoping he hadn't been rash in sending them off so soon. Even if they had the strength to be Champions, they were still children, and could be trying to one up each other in their rivalry.

Lance nodded, frowning. "Unfortunately, Bruno and Agatha disappeared somewhere to train right after they lost to Red. Lorelei's went home, but I can reach her."
"Oh, great..." Oak sighed. "So you're the only one there."
Lance nodded in confirmation. It was probably a good thing he had hung around. Otherwise, no one could back up Red and Green.

"Okay, I'll try and reach Lorelei, then we'll check out the island."
"Thank you." Oak replied gratefully, and hung up the phone, shutting the monitor down in the process.
'Hmm, does this situation really need four top trainers?' Oak wondered. The situation seemed dangerous, sure. But where the Pokemon really so terrifying?
But Blaine couldn't contain them, from the looks of it, and no one had gotten in and out of the island. Better to be safe than sorry.

Lance dialled another number into the video-phone, trying to contact Lorelei. The phone rung over and over and over, but no answer. With a sigh, he placed the phone down and left his room, throwing his Cloak over his shoulders as he left the room.

Lance lived in the Pokemon League Building around this time of year for the Elite Four Challenges. Now that they were over, he could return to Blackthorn City in Johto, but he was in no rush to return. And now, he had this to deal with.
'Why does everyone have to disappear when I actually need them?' Lance wondered in annoyance.

Once outside, Lance looked up at the sky. The sun wasn't particularly bright, and there were plenty of clouds out today. fairly average weather.
"Dragonite, come on out." Dragonite popped out of its Pokeball and landed beside Lance.
"Looks like we've got a bit of work to do." Lance told his Dragon Pokemon, jumping on its back. "Remember Red and Green? Looks like they need our help. Off to Cinnabar then!"

Dragonite flapped its wings, raising into the air and taking off, towards Cinnabar Island.
'I wouldn't be surprised if those two had it handled by the time I'm done.' Lance thought to himself with a smirk, the wind blowing his spiky red hair all over.

    Chapter 5 - How Humiliating!

Red and Green had been wary of continuing to Cinnabar, and had fell back to a small island just big enough for the two of them to sit and think. there Pokemon had been recalled and were resting in their Pokeball's.

"I still can't get that outta my head..." Green mumbled to himself. He was frowning while he rolled the encounter with the 'Gyarados' in his head.
"That thing acted like a glitch or something. A bad computer program." green continued.
He knew that was impossible. The Pokemon couldn't have literally been something akin to faulty data. Maybe it was a hologram? A solid, glitchy hologram, but a hologram nonetheless.

Red stared out at the sea, trying to figure out what that Gyarados really was. It didn't feel like a normal Pokemon to him. Something was definitely off. It was maybe a faulty illusion by a Psychic Pokemon, but he couldn't think of a species that did something like that.

Green sighed in frustration. This incident wasn't as simple as he hoped it would be. Even if a logical explanation could be given for that Gyarados, that meant having to deal with more Pokemon like that. And judging from the rampant Hyper Beam's being thrown around earlier, they had no shortage of power. Hitting them, however...

Red averted his gaze to the sky. A lone bird Pokemon was flying about. It seemed odd to see one around here. Judging from the size, it was either a Spearow or a Pidgey.
'Why's it here though?' Red wondered to himself. 'If it gets to close to the island, the Pokemon'll attack it.'
Green glanced at Red and noticed him staring at the sky. Green noticed a small bird Pokemon steadily flying closer, occasionally changing direction, but mostly moving forward.

"... I don't like this." Green told Red, taking Pidgeot's Pokeball off of his belt. Red gave him a confused look.
"Look genius, why would a single Pidgey be randomly flying around over sea? And heading for us?" Green asked, not taking his gaze off the advancing avian.
Red realised what Green was saying. It had come from Cinnabar's direction after all. But if it was enraged, what could a Pidgey do? They were normally timid, and not a large threat to anything not a Bug Type.

The Pidgey was directly above them now, circling. Green had his Pokeball ready to throw in case it attacked. Red had Charizard's Pokeball in hand too. His only other choice was Wartortle, due to the lack of space on the island, and attacking from the ground was disadvantageous.
"Heh. I don't assistance to take down a Pidgey, Red. I'm not as weak as ya think!" Green commented. "Besides, it's probably to scared to-"

Green was cut off when the Pidgey suddenly darted towards them. It had initiated a Quick Attack. It was aiming Green, who was forced to jump backwards, into the water to avoid it.
Without hesitation, the Pidgey changed course and aimed for Red. However, the angle of its change of course allowed Red to barely avoid it. He fell into the sea too.

Red thrashed around wildly, trying to swim back to the surface. He had never learned to swim, and had relied on his Pokemon or ships to cross water.
Forcing himself to calm down, he took out Wartortle's Pokeball and released the blue turtle.
He was sinking fast. Keeping a hand on his trademark red and white cap, Red reached out and grabbed his Pokemon's outstretched hand. Wartortle furiously began to drag his trainer to the surface. Red felt his lungs emptying already. He had to breathe...

Red broke the waters surface and inhaled loudly and gratefully. Wartortle still held onto him. Red reinforced his grip on Wartortle as he was dragged back to the small two-man island.
Green was already in the air with his Pidgeot, the Pidgey nowhere in sight. Green must have beaten it. Seeing Red climb back onto the island, Pidgeot swooped down closer.
"Unbelievable! Absolutely unbelievable!" Green growled furiously, although his eyes showed that he was troubled as well. "Humiliated by a freaking Pidgey! A Pidgey! And you! You let it shove you around like that?!"

Red was about to retort that Green was forced to dive too, when Green continued in a slightly calmer, yet aggravated, voice.
"It was like that Gyarados. It was fast enough to match Pidgeot." Green continued. "It even used an attack I'd never seen before. It turned its wings to steel."
'Steel?' Red wondered, petting Wartortle's head as he sat on the island, dripping wet. 'What kind of attack is that?'

"Anyways, I'm cold. I've gotta dry off." Green complained. Red thought for a second, then threw Charizard's Pokeball. The large orange Pokemon appeared in a flash of Red light.
Red was about to command Charizard to use a Fire Spin attack, when Green interjected.
"Ah, I see! Charizard can dry us off with his heat!" Green punched his right palm with his left fist, as if realising something. "If it wasn't for the water, I'd have had Arcanine do that! Come on, Fire Spin already!"

Charizard blew smoke at his nostrils as he gazed at Green, unhappy at someone else giving him orders. Charizard looked at Red, who simply sighed and nodded.
Letting out a small growl, Charizard spat a stream of fire towards the two boys. The fire began encircling them. Red felt the heat of the fire and smiled, grateful for the warmth.
Green leaped onto the small patch of land available to him, recalling Pidgeot to free up more room. red did the same for Wartortle.

"So, once we're ready, what say you we get to Cinnabar already?" Green asked with a confident smirk. Red nodded, taking off his hat to allow his hair to dry easier. But Red knew that beneath the confident exterior, Green was as shaken about the odd Pokemon 'glitches' as he was.

Chapter 6 - The Cute and the Clone

A feeling of dread had been looming this particular Pokemon for a while now. The small pink Pokemon couldn't concentrate on playing with this sensation. The petite creature floated beside a van in the Vermillion Docks, trying to figure out what the sensation was.

The Pokemon sat on the roof of the small van, concentrating. The disturbance felt external, and fairly distant. It could feel the presence of all Pokemon, yet what was being sensed... Wasn't right. This was a tainted presence. It began swishing its long tail around as it pondered what the sensation was.

The pink Pokemon heard human voices drawing closer. Quickly, it floated from the roof of the van and hid under it. Two sailors came into view, heading from Vermillion City to a large cruiser.
"Did ya hear? Storm up at Cinnabar angered some Pokemon and the place is a wreck." One sailor said as they passed.
"Oh yeah. Terrible business. Guess the S.S. Wave won't be heading there any time soon..."

The Sailors entered the boat. Even though the ship wouldn't be sailing to Cinnabar until the situation had been resolved, they still had to keep it ready for immediate take off should it be resolved quickly. The ship's captain wanted 'the least amount of hassle possible'.

"Muu?" The small Pokemon sighed in confusion. Where those humans talking about that sensation it was feeling? 'Cinnabar'... was that the thing? Or the location? "Muu..."
Mew slowly crawled out from under the van, cautious of any more humans. Once it was out, Mew flew towards the top of the ship, looking out towards the sea.

Mew could sense the sensation was towards the southwest. It would ave to immediately investigate the matter so that it could get back to playing without anything bothering it.

But first, it wanted a nap.

Waiting for the sailors to leave, it quickly flew inside when they left. It floated through the halls of the luxurious cruiser before entering a room furthest from the ship's entrance. In it was a table, television, computer and a nice, fluffy bed.
"Muuu!" The Pokemon squealed in joy as it jumped on the bed. It was nice and soft. Mew could feel itself drifting off to sleep already...

    -----------------------------------------------

Further north from Vermillion City, and beyond Saffron City, was Cerulean City. This place was one of the furthest away from what was happening at Cinnabar.

But one Pokemon could still sense what was happening.

Inside the deepest depths of Cerulean, where many powerful Pokemon could be found, slept what would have been known as the fiercest known Pokemon in existence if it was even heard of.

This Pokemon was created by a team of Team Rocket Scientists within the abandoned building's basement in Cinnabar. It was created with Mew's data, and the only 'working' clone.

Eleven months earlier, the Pokemon had escaped the confines of the basement. Those stupid scientists thought they could contain and control his might and anger. He refused to be used as a tool for those humans, who thought themselves superior.

This tall Pokemon, unlike the petite and cute Mew, was more humanoid in appearance, but more grey and purple, with a frighteningly large amount of power. And hatred for humans.

The Psychic Pokemon opened its eyes, feeling an odd presence in the distance. Like Mew, it could feel all Pokemon at a more limited extent, but this presence... It seemed to demand attention. It was like a corrupted Pokemon. Perhaps like himself... But if this was another clone, why did it feel like a bigger abomination than Mewtwo?

But Mewtwo decided that wasn't important. What was important was how strong it was. With all his power, Mewtwo was almost unstoppable, and had wanted something strong enough to challenge him. Nothing in this cave came close to tiring him. Perhaps this oddity was the one thing strong enough to oppose him?

Slowly, the tall Pokemon began walking through the labyrinthine cave towards the exit. It decided to check this disturbance out. Maybe it could find a half decent challenge at last. Maybe a reason to exist.

    -----------------------------------------------

Charizard maintained its Fire Spin for a few minutes, until it was sure the trainers had dried off and stopped the attack. Red and Green checked their clothes. They were mostly fine.

"All right, let's not waste time, I'm going ahead." Green said as Red put his hat back on. Again, Green released Pidgeot from his Pokeball.
Hopping onto its back, Green craned his neck to face Red. "Well, smell ya later, Red!"

The Pidgeot flapped its wings and took off for Cinnabar. Charizard moved closer to Red, keeping its flaming tail aloft to avoid the water. Red climbed onto his back as fast as he could. He didn't want Green rushing off so fast. Those Pokemon would be a bit much in a group, even if they were 'one hit wonders.'

With a roar, Charizard flapped its wings and gained altitude before taking off after Green and Pidgeot, trying to keep up.

Chapter 7 - Not Them Too!

Green had reached Cinnabar Island without further incidents, which he found odd. It was reported to be a massive attack, and yet Red and he had only met two Pokemon here. Was the power of a few Pokemon that destructive? Or were they merely waiting?

Deciding it best to let his Pokemon rest from the trip, Green recalled Pidgeot. Readying his other Pokeballs, Green walked slowly towards the centre of the island.

"... Not as lively as I'd thought it'd be." Green muttered to himself, keeping his senses alert. From where he was, he could see many houses were damaged pretty badly. Beyond the houses on his left, the Pokemon Centre normally stood, but even with the damaged houses, he couldn't see its roof. Perhaps it was one of the worse hit buildings.

Green heard Charizard reaching the island behind him. Red finally arrived. Allowing Charizard to rest inside its Pokeball, Red hurried over to Green. Red opened his mouth to speak, but Green beat him to the punch.
"The place looks completely deserted." Green said. "We'd better look around and make sure no one's trapped inside the buildings."

Red simply nodded in resignation, mentally deciding to forget how to talk and looked around. The damage was extensive all right.
I'll take the west side then. You can have the east." Green told Red, and walked towards the direction of the abandoned building. Red watched him go for a moment before heading for the Pokemon Centre.

Along the way, Red released Eevee and Bulbasaur to help him search. Cautiously, they walked the empty streets of Cinnabar, checking every house for signs of someone hiding. Luckily, no one was inside any of the checked houses, but Red was unsure if that meant they were safely hidden or...
"Saur! Bulbasaur!" Red's Bulbasaur cried from near the Pokemon Centre.

Red and Eevee rushed to the Pokemon Centre, peering through the wide open door. From here, Red could see most of the Pokemon Centre. It looked like a bomb site. The contents of the centre were strewn everywhere in destroyed piles, the walls looking ready to collapse.

Beyond the counter where Nurse Joy and Chansey normally stood and tended to Pokemon, was a door to the emergency room. It was wide open. Red thought he saw a moving shadow beyond the door, but it was hard to tell. Bulbasaur must have seen it to.
Signalling for his Pokemon to be quiet, Red crept slowly inside the Pokemon Centre, trying to detect any hostile Pokemon in here.

It seemed empty, except for what possibly lay in that back room. Carefully, Red and his Pokemon moved closer to the counter, one step at a time.
Finally, they reached the counter. Red tried to peer inside, but couldn't see anything in the room beyond a wall.
Red lifted the gate on the counter and moved towards the door, keeping as quiet as possible. If it turned out to be another weird Pokemon thing, he didn't want to alert it.

Poking his head round the door, he looked into the room properly. It was full of unoccupied beds. Red wasn't sure if that was a good or bad sign. Was that shadow just in his and Bulbasaur's heads?
A rustling sound from a corner made Red jump. Quickly, he backed out the room. His Pokemon were on guard and moved into the room to face whatever threat was there.
Red moved back into the room, looking for the source of the sound. He spotted someone in the corner.

Red recognised the figure immediately as Nurse Joy, sitting with her head lowered. Red rushed to her side immediately.
Nurse Joy stirred, and Red was about to shake her awake and ask if she was okay, but Red froze. His eyes widened when he got a proper look at her.
Joy rose to her feet slowly, her body looking like a mangled mess of pixels, just like the Pokemon. Her eyes were completely blank. She turned her head slowly towards Red.

A weird screeching sound escaped Joy's lips, as Red stared at her in shock. Nurse Joy was affected too? What did that mean?
But he didn't have time to think about that. Joy reached out to grab Red, but he backed off immediately as Eevee and Bulbasaur moved to block Joy from Red. Another, garbled sound emanated from Joy, an inhuman sound.
From another corner, another person slowly stood. His darker clothes made it harder to notice him until now. He was a pixelated entity too. Perhaps a young trainer before... whatever had happened to them.

The 'trainer' walked slowly towards Red and his Pokemon, who all backed away towards the exit, not making any sudden moves in case he sped after them.
The boy took a Pokeball from his belt, still moving towards Red. Red felt fear coursing through him. What had happened at this island? Why were both humans and Pokemon looking like glitched graphics?

The trainer threw his equally graphically-challenged Pokeball, unleashing a pixelled Dugtrio. It unleashed the cry that everything affected by these pixels seemed to emit, and burrowed underground. A battle against this trainer had begun.

Chapter 8 - The Missing Number

Red, Bulbasaur and Eevee were wary with the Dugtrio underground. It could strike anywhere underneath them, and with those weird enhancements these Pokemon received, it could probably leap to the roof with raw power.

"You two, move!" Red ordered, relishing in the only chance he ever got to get a word in edgeways these days. His Pokemon leaped away from their positions, Eevee moving left, and Bulbasaur right.
Barely a split second later, the Dugtrio burst from the ground where Bulbasaur stood previously. It was close.

    "Vine Whip!" Red commanded.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur extended a vine from underneath the bulb on its back, and shot it at the Dugtrio. With immense speed, it moved to the side, creating a gaping trail underground when it moved.
The Dugtrio then shot towards Bulbasaur, who was surprised at the speed it moved. Dugtrio were fast, but this...

"Stun Spore! Take Down!" Red shouted, and Bulbasaur burst a yellow powder from its bulb just as it was tackled. The powder settled on Dugtrio and successfully paralysed it, greatly reducing its speed. Eevee took this chance to use Take Down, and rammed into the Pokemon.

Typical to the 'glitchy' race of Pokemon, it seemed to have been defeated immediately, fainting on the spot. Without a sound (to Red's relief), the Pokemon was recalled, and the Trainer threw another Pokeball.
This time, it was a Raticate. It was equally as pixellated as the other Pokemon, but their overall shapes and colours somewhat remained.

Red glanced at Bulbasaur and was shocked to see it was fainted. The Dugtrio was that strong?!
'Great. It's too dangerous to continue this fight...' Red thought, gritting his teeth. It seemed like these fights were determined in one hit, and Red didn't want to risk seriously injuring his Pokemon fighting these things.

"That's enough. Come back!" Red recalled both his Pokemon to their Pokeballs, and faced the three glitched life forms before him.
"Hey, Nurse Joy. Raticate? Trainer?" Red said, trying to get a response from them that wasn't an inhuman screech.
His reply was the Raticate charging at him. Yelping in surprise, Red fell on his back trying to scramble away, causing the large, blocky rat to sail right over him and hit the wall.

Red immediately rose to his feet. He figured he couldn't talk to Nurse Joy or the Trainer. And he didn't want to waste time battling here. Taking his chance, he bolted for the door.
Red hopped over the counter and dashed outside, trying to find a place to hide should they give chase. It quickly became apparent they weren't however, when Red reached the East Coast of the island and stopped to catch his breathe.

'They aren't following?' Red wondered in surprise. Red looked at Bulbasaur's Pokeball, frowning.
"These guys are terribly strong. Maybe more so than any other Pokemon. I hope he isn't injured too badly..." Red muttered to himself, looking out to sea.
Red's jaw dropped when he saw what was floating there, just twenty metres away. It looked like a pink block of pixel's. A thick rectangle with a smaller one on top. The hell was that thing?

It floated towards him slowly, and Red felt rooted to the spot. Fear paralysed him. Those 'glitched' Pokemon and people where creepy enough, but this... It felt alien. It seemed like it was something no one should see.
Forcing his hand to move, Red protruded his Pokedex from his pocket, flipping it open and performing a scan with his shaking hands.

"Searching. Searching. Searching..." The Pokedex spoke, trying to scan the data presented to it.
"Missing Number. Type Bird. Missing-" The Pokedex began relaying its search results when it seemed to short circuit. The small screen, which displayed a black circle with a giant question mark, began to scramble its graphics, making the picture nearly impossible to view properly. The Pokedex emitted a screeching sound, and Red forced himself to shut it down.

"W-what are you?" Red asked the entity in a quavering voice. The 'entity' stopped five metres away, as if to contemplate the question.
But the entity couldn't contemplate anything. It had no will, no mind of its own. It understood nothing. Not even the feeling of rage and abandonment that contributed to its state today.

Silence was Red's reply. He was unnerved by this thing. What did it want? Was it going to pixellate him to? Could he fight back?
'Listen to yourself! You're supposed to be the Champion!' Red scolded himself. 'Everyone's waiting for you to resolve this issue here!'
"Okay, whatever you are." Red muttered, taking out Wartortle and Pikachu's Pokeballs. "You're the cause of whatever's happening, right? I'm gonna fix everything you messed up."

    --------------------------------------

Green wandered further into the depth's of the abandoned building. When he was travelling to collect badges, he only entered the first floor here. Caught a Growlithe and left. Now he was here, looking for anyone hiding from the Pokemon... things.

"Hey! Anyone down here! Answer me!" Green yelled as he walked onward, keeping his eyes peeled for hostile Pokemon. Even the ones which resided in here were nowhere to be found. Perhaps they were affected by this whole pixel business and spread all over the island.

    --------------------------------------

"Fly faster, Dragonite." Lance muttered to his Pokemon. Dragonite nodded in response and sped up slightly. They were just passing Pallet town now. Still a ways to go. He hoped Red and Green weren't in too much trouble.

Lance took no notice of the Pallet Town residents who were gaping at the Dragonite with Lance riding on its back. By now, everyone was aware of the Cinnabar Situation, and judging by Lance's direction, he was going there to assist Red and Green.

'And where the hell is everyone?' Lance wondered, referring to his fellow Elite Four Members. They seemed to disappear of the map as soon as the Tournament was finished, and he would appreciate their help. The closer Lance got to Cinnabar, the more Lance felt that something was horrendously wrong over there.

    Chapter 9 - Confrontation!

Red watched the entity carefully, contemplating if battling it was really a good idea. One one hand, if it was like those 'glitchy' Pokemon he'd seen earlier, one good hit would end it. On the other hand, if it hit his Pokemon, they would be critically injured, and the Pokemon Centre was off limits.

The entity, which Red would refer to as a 'missing number', began to glow. Red narrowed his eyes in suspicion, wondering what it was doing. Almost immediately, he recognised it as 'Sky Attack', a powerful technique. A whirlind began to form in front of the Missing Number, and Red had to act fast.

Quickly, Red threw Wartortle and Pikachu's Pokeballs to the ground, releasing them. Immediately after, Red took out Snorlax's Pokeball and released it too. Snorlax stood in front of Red, facing the Missing Number.
"Harden." Red commanded, and snorlax's robust body became slightly blocky as he increased his defensive power. At that moment, the Missing Number launched its attack.

It struck Snorlax at high speed, managing to make it stumble as it tried to grab the entity. Red moved to the side in case Snorlax fell on top of him.
"Great job Snorlax!" Red congratulated his Pokemon, who tried to hold it in place.
"Now, Wartortle! Pikachu!" Red directed his other two Pokemon, who moved in front of Snorlax. "Hydro Pump! Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu discharged a large amount of electricity from its body while Wartortle fired a large volume of water, aimed at the Missing Number.

The water struck the Missing Number, and a second later was zapped by the Thunderbolt. Snorlax let go to avoid getting hit itself, before falling backwards. It had taken more damage from the attack than Red realised.
"Snorlax, Rest!" Red ordered, and Snorlax quickly fell asleep, regaining its energy.
The Missing Number floated in place, apparently unfazed by the attack. It slowly revolved around, as if to face the shocked Pikachu and Wartortle.

A jet of water was fired from the Missing Number, striking Red's Pokemon. Red had no idea how it was supposed to shoot water, but that didn't matter. His Pokemon had taken a serious hit from the Water Gun attack.
'How is this thing so strong?!' Red wondered, fear beginning to grow. It seemed unhurt by the attacks used against it, knew a powerful technique, and a weaker one that seemed more powerful than a Hydro Pump. what the hell was it?!

Red knew he was in trouble. Three of his Pokemon - Pikachu, Wartortle and Bulbasaur - were too badly hurt to continue fighting, and Snorlax was still recovering from the damage it sustained.
All he had left was Charizard and Eevee. But Red was reluctant to continue battling. Red didn't have any way to heal his Pokemon properly, having stupidly left his bag at home. Green was too far away to help, and no one else was around.

The Missing Number revolved again, maybe facing him. Red backed away, watching the entity and wondering what it was planning. Was he and his Pokemon going to become like everyone else here?
'... No. I can't let that happen.' Red told himself, trying to gather his courage. 'I'm Kanto's Champion, and everyone's waiting for me to save them.'

Red faced the Missing Number, new resolve in his light red eyes. Slowly, he took Eevee and Charizard's pokeballs in his hands.
"I have to say, you're quite a creature." Red told the entity, who remained motionless. "I don't know if you're a Pokemon, but if you are... Perhaps you need a name?"
Red released his two remaining Pokemon. Charizard roared upon release and faced the Missing Number, while Eevee growled as fiercely as it could, looking like a miniscule annoyance compared to Charizard.

"Missing Number, huh..." Red muttered, thinking of a fitting name. "Hmm... How 'bout 'Missingno'?" Red asked the entity, pronouncing it as 'Missingo'.
'Missingno' didn't reply, or even indicate it heard him. Red didn't care much either way. He now had to concentrate solely on fighting this thing.
Snorlax grunted, and woke up, now fully recovered. It sat up slowly, looking around the area, and noticed Missingno. It stood up, ready to continue battling. Now Red had three Pokemon.

    ----------------------------------------------

Green had reached the very bottom floor of the abandoned building, annoyed had having found nothing in here. No people, no Pokemon, nothing.
"Shoulda taken the East Coast..." Green sighed, releasing his Alakazam. The Psychic Pokemon appeared in aflash of red light, and waited for Green's order.
"Okay Alakazam, let's telepo-" Green began, and stopped when he thought he heard something. To his right was a door that stood slightly ajar.

Curious, Green slowly approached the door, Alakazam following close behind. Maybe it was someone hiding from the Pokemon? Or was it one of those glitched things?
"Hey!" Green called out, stopping four feet away from the door. "Is anyone in there?"
Green recieved no reply. Maybe it was his imagination? He glanced at his Alakazam. "Can you sense anything?"
"Kazam!" The Psychic Pokemon held aloft the two spoons it carried and concentrated on detecting a presence behind the door. After a few moments, it detected a large amount of energy not just from behind the door, but from all over.

"Ala!" The Pokemon grunted with urgency, wheeling around to face what it sensed. Coming from the stairs was one of the glitched Pokemon - a blocky Ditto. It moved irregularly, given that it was now a glitched blob. The door in front of Green opened, and a glitched Grimer and two Growlithe approached.
"Trapped, huh?" Green muttered, backing up to Alakazam, who faced the approaching Ditto, which transformed into a blocky Alakazam. Two Magneton were descending the stairs too, floating behind the Ditto-Kazam.

"Well, it'll take more than this to beat me!" Green declared, releasing his Arcanine and Rhydon to combat the Grimer and two Growlithe. The regal, firey Arcanine and large, hulking Rhydon faced the approaching pixels with caution and surprise. They had never seen Pokemon like this, but they weren't going to lose to weak little things like them.

    ----------------------------------------------

Lance's Dragonite flew towards Cinnabar as fast as it could, sensing the urgency in reaching the place. Laance was growing more and more uneasy about Cinnabar Island, knowing that something was going down there.
"Almost there, Dragonite..." Lance muttered to his Pokemn, who concentrated on reaching the island. But something broke its concentration. It craned its head back, trying to see what it felt approaching fast.

It looked like a purple blur. A fast Pokemon was flying in their direction, maybe at them? Lance glanced backwards too, and ordered Dragonite to stop and face the approaching Pokemon.
'Is that thing attacking the Island?' Lance wondered as it closed the distance between them quickly. As it neared, Lance realised he had no idea what it was. It didn't look like anything he had ever seen before.

"Dragonite, ready your Barrier." Lance instructed, watching the fast approaching Pokemon. In no time at all, it reached Lance - And passed right by him, as if he wasn't there. Lance glimpsed the Pokemon as it passed, and was shocked. Maybe it was his imagination, but in the split second he saw the Pokemon's face, it resembled the phantom Pokemon, Mew.
"But it's way too big to be a Mew..." Lance muttered, wondering what it really was. Then he realised he was just wasting time. He had to reach the island, especially now that that other Pokemon was apparently going there too. If it was an enemy, he had to give chase.

    ----------------------------------------------

The small Pokemon gave a large, open mouthed yawn as it woke from its nap and rubbed its eyes. It was still resting on that fluffy bed within the ship. So comfy...
Then Mew remembere that sensation. It intruded upon Mew's peaceful dreams, demanding its attention. It was still coming from the South-West.
With a small sigh, Mew floated of the bed headed for the exit. It would need to check out the disturbance.

As Mew left the ship, it felt yet another presence, this one was definitely a Pokemon, but... It felt different. Mew realised it was a similar feeling to Mew itself. But Mew was the only Mew around... Was it that clone those bad humans were trying to make?
Mew hadn't noticed its presence for some time. It had disappeared after briefly surfacing, and disappeared. Mew promptly forgot all about the clone and went back to playing all over Kanto. If the other Mew was ther, it definately had to go now.

Mew left the ship and faced the direction of Cinnabar, ready to shoot off. It noticed the presence of a human however, and looked down at one of the sailors it seen before. He stood, gaping in disbelief at Mew.
Mew gave the human a friendly wave, and flew off, leaving a sparkling trail behind it. The Sailor watched it go until it disappeared over the horizon.
"... I had more Vermilla-Juice than I thought." The Sailor said to himself, believing it was just a hallucination.

    Chapter 10 - Grim Situation

Red's three remaining Pokemon - Charizard, Eevee and Snorlax - moved to surround the Missingno, attempting to prevent it from escaping. Wartortle and Pikachu, although still injured, attempted to get back on their feet and help.

"You two, return." Red ordered calmly, taking out their Pokeball's and placing them back inside. Red didn't want them to receive any more damage than they had, they needed to rest.

"Snorlax, Seismic Toss!" Red shouted, and Snorlax lumbered towards Missingno with a grunt. The burly Pokemon grabbed the entity, and gave it a powerful toss into the air.
"Now Charizard! Fire Blast!" Red directed Charizard, who took flight and flew towards Missingno.

Charizard passed by the Missingno, who was now falling. Gathering a large amount of fire, it launched a massive star shaped blast of fire, hitting the Missingno and sending it plummeting towards the ground.
"Eevee, finish with Take Down!" Red shouted, and Eevee readied itself it launch at the entity once the time was right.

With just seconds before Missingno hit the ground, Eevee dashed towards it, leaping into the air and hitting it with a powerful tackle, sending it into the sea.
Eevee winced at the recoil from the attack, but was happy that it played a part in defeating that thing.

"Amazing job!" Red cheered his Pokemon, petting Eevee while his other Pokemon gathered around him. "Everyone played a big there." Red added.
But their celebration was short lived. A splashing sound from the sea made Red and his Pokemon look up, and saw Missingno rising from the water, seemingly unfazed from the assault.

'But... but those attacks...' Red thought in horror. They seemed completely ineffective. Those were all powerful techniques, and they didn't even scratch that thing when combined?!
The Missingno's pixels began randomly scrambling around each other. Red didn't like the sight of that. It made him feel sick with fear. was this a new attack it was using?

His Pokemon rushed forward to protect their trainer, facing the entity with apprehension and determination.
In the blink of an eye, the Missingno shot forward, stopping in front of a very confused Eevee, who barely registered its movement. The Missingno tilted and touched Eevee, who immediately began wailing in pain and fear.

"S-stop it!" Red screamed in horror, wondering what it was doing. "Get away from him!" Red ran forward and tried to tackle the entity, but his Snorlax beat him to it, grabbing the Missingno by the top and slamming it into the ground.
Eevee whimpered slightly and collapsed. Red knelt down and picked his Pokemon up. His breathe caught in his throat when he saw the area Missingno touched seemed to be slowly turning into pixels.

'Is that how it spreads?' Red wondered briefly, watching his Pokemon suffer from the effects. It didn't seem to be spreading from the area, but most likely it would consume his Pokemon before long.
Missingno rose from the ground, still appearing unhurt, but not scrambling itself around any more.
'How can it be stopped?!' Red worried frantically, his fear growing out of control. 'I can't knock it out, and it'll infect my Pokemon if this kees up...'

"This is why humans are pitiful" A foreign voice spoke in his head, snapping him out of his frantic thoughts. A second later, a black, electric - looking ball slammed into the side Missingno, knocking it into the Cinnabar Gym wall 30 metres away.
Red looked for the source of the attack, and spotted a tall, white and purple Pokemon, glaring at him.

"You humans drag down the abilities of Pokemon. That is why you can't win." The Pokemon told him telepathically. Re stared, wide eyed at the thing. What was it? He had never seen it before. Was it an enemy? Was it an ally?
"Your enemy." The Pokemon confirmed, now focusing his attention on the Missingno, who was slowly approaching from the wreckage left behind at the Gym wall. "Fortunately for you, I'm only after a real challenge.

Mewtwo descended to ground, in front of Red and his Pokemon.
"Your human friend is busy fighting in that building." Mewtwo told Red as he began walking towards Missingno. "And the other human is coming.
'He means.. Green and someone else?" Red wondered. That Pokemon said Green was fighting. Was he in trouble? And how did that Pokemon know?
"Psychic. Mewtwo confirmed for him, and got ready to combat the Missingno.

'... Okay then. Thanks.' Red thought, knowing Mewtwo would read his thoughts. Eevee lay quivering and whimpering in his arms, scared and pained by the slow transformation into one of those glitchy 'Missing Number' Pokemon.
"You'll be fine. I promise." Red whispered. "Snorlax, Charizard. Let's go find Green."
Red ran towards the abandoned building, feeling guilt and at fault for what happened to his Eevee. If he was really such a great trainer, how did he let it happen? He had to find a way to reverse the effects of the transformation soon, or else...

Red took no notice of the north sea route, where Lance was in view, a distant dot in the sky approaching fast. He had to find Green and make sure he was okay. But could he risk his Pokemon getting hurt again? He was just down to two...

    --------------------------------------------

Green was backed into a corner now. What was initially a small group of Pokemon had expanded into nearly two dozen now. All of them glitchy. There were a few people amongst them too, trainers of some of the Pokemon.

Green's Arcanine and Alakazam had been knocked out, leaving him with four Pokemon to fend off these attacks.
Pidgeot, Rhydon, Machamp and Exxegutor were his remaining Pokemon, and they were all trying hard to fight off the Pokemon. Exxegutor used its Psychic abilities to try and defend the team, Pidgeot struck from the air, Rhydon stayed close to Green, and Machamp attacked the group of Pokemon.

Machamp used Earthquake to try and clear out a large group of Pokemon at once, but a Ditto had used Transform to become Pidgeot just a second earlier. It took Machamp by surprise and attacked with Wing Attack, knocking Machamp out instantly.

"Machamp, return." Green muttered through clenched teeth. Three Pokemon left. When these things weren't getting one - shotted, they dished out one -hit k.o.'s themselves. Things looked grim for Green, who couldn't knock out the Pokemon fast enough.

Chapter 11 - Clash of the Titans

Lance urged Dragonite on, watching the island steadily move closer. That purple Pokemon was so fast! If it had any bad intentions, Red and Green would be battling it now. But what was its purpose.
Dragonite finally landed on the island, and Lance recalled it. It would need to rest from the journey before he could use it for battle. Instead, Lance took out two other Pokeballs and called his two Dragonair's. Two long, slender, blue serpent like Pokemon with blue orbs on their necks and small wings on their heads appeared and circled the air above Lance. these were the pre-evolution of Dragonite.

Lance saw the purple Pokemon a few metres away, facing something. Lance couldn't see what from his position. Was it Red? No... at the very least, Lance would see Red's Pokemon.
Dragonair called out to Lance. Looking up, Lance saw Dragonair facing west and followed its gaze. Red was running, holding something in his arms. His Charizard flew just above him while Snorlax struggled to keep up with them. They looked like they was heading for an old building, but why? The enemy was just in front of Lance...

"Red! Red!" Lance called, but Red, nor his Pokemon didn't seem to notice. He just kept on going. Lance let out a 'tch' and followed after him, his cape billlowing behind him as his Dragonair's followed on either side.
Red, what's going on here?! Lance wondered. What was making him run? The purple Pokemon? Or whatever it was facing?

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Mewtwo watched the pixellated creature float slowly towards him. Mewtwo couldn't sense any natural life force from it. It seemed... man made, in a way. No man could have created this monstrosity, but they could have contributed.
Are you a Pokemon? Mewtwo demanded to know, but try as as hard as he could, Mewtwo couldn't detect any thoughts from the entity either. It was as if it had no mind. While that would make reading its moves difficult, it at least upped the challenge Mewtwo wanted so much.
... I came here to battle anyway. You'd best prepare yourself. Mewtwo told the mindless thing before him. For I am the strongest Pokemon in existence. Can you keep up?

As soon as he transmitted his thought, Mewtwo brought his two hands together at his side, charging a black ball crackling with electricity. With a grunt, Mewtwo fired the Shadow Ball at Missingno, who made no effort to dodge and was slammed back into the gym wall, this time bringing the whole side of the gym down on top of it.
... Pathetic. Mewtwo concluded, seeing the battle won already. He turned and walked away, ready to take flight and leave. Before he leapt into the air, Mewtwo felt a rush of energy emanate behind him and moved to his right in a flash.
Mewtwo looked at the source. Missingno had escaped from the wreckage and launched a Water Gun attack. This was in a few small seconds and looking unscathed.

... Perhaps you may be worth my time, after all. Mewtwo smirked, pleased that perhaps he had found something worthy of his power. Even if this was an abomination to nature. Then again, wasn't a clone like him similar in that regard?
Don't dissapoint! Mewtwo warned, his eyes glowing blue as he launched a Psychic attack, mentally grabbing hold of Missingno and ramming it into the ground.
Mewtwo repeated this a few more times, mentally grabbing hold of the creature and raising it into the air, then smashing it onto the concrete below, still wet from the storm the night before. By now, a normal Pokemon would be in danger of dying, but this thing uttered no sound and made no attempt to resist. As if it felt nothing.

Mewtwo relinquished his psychic grip and waited. The clone was sure that thing wasn't beaten or phazed yet. And indeed, it had risen from the damaged ground, entirely unaffected.
Hmph. A large display of power indeed... Mewtwo commented. A late afternoon shone brightly upon them. Missingno began to glow. Unlike the previous glow that signified Sky attack, it seemed to attract the light of the sun.
Mewtwo recognised the attack at once, but remained where he was. He didn't feel the need to dodge this attack. The creature so far had only shown its strength on a weak trainer and his pathetic Pokemon.

Missingno unleashed the Solarbeam from the center of its body. Mewtwo briefly wondered how this creature knew such varied attacks. Solarbeam, Sky Attack and Water Gun. Perhaps it held many more secrets.
Raising an arm, Mewtwo pointed his his palm towards the Solarbeam. A second later, the attack collided with an invisible wall - Mewtwo's Light Screen.
The psychic Pokemon grunted, realising the attack had a bit more power than expected, but his Screen held fast, and the ttack dissipated.
Immediately after, another beam struck his Light Screen. Barely a second later, another beam collided with it.
It can fire Solarbeam in rapid succession?! Mewtwo wondered in surprise. Even if the technique was boosted by the sun, it shouldn't be able to fire so many so quickly.

Mewtwo's Light Screen began to shatter and crumble. Swiftly, Mewtwo used Teleport, disapearring and reappearing above the entity. It had fired one more beam at Mewtwo's old location. It didn't seem to know where he currently was.
Mewtwo concentrated on the entity and used Disable. A mental link was briefly established between the two. The pyschic Pokemon tried to block Solarbeam from Missingno's memory, but Mewtwo saw nothing in its mind; as if it had no mind at all, no memory. It was completely illogical.
Just like a machine. you simply imitate life Mewtwo commented grimly. He couldn't disable any attacks, so all he could do was beat it down and see if it stayed down.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

Red let his legs carry him wherever they headed, as if they had a mind of their own. His thoughts were occupied by his suffering Eevee. It had been affected by that pixellation that seemed to have destroyed the population of Cinnabar, Pokemon included. He had no idea how to reverse this condition. If his Eevee fully turned into a slave of Missingno, then what would he do...?

Red found himself bursting through the door to the abandoned building. Even if his Pokemon was afflicted with this weird condition, he had to make sure Green got out of here unscathed. That Pokemon said he was in here, battling. If that was true, he had to reach him before something happened.
Noticing that his Pokemon were to big for the door, Red hurriedly fished out there Pokeballs, and recalled them one at a timec while still holding onto Eevee, burst into the building. Red stopped and looked around, hoping to see Green. Not here. He must be further into the building.

Taking off quickly, Red reachedthe stairs and bolted down to the basement levels. Here, he saw more of those glitched Pokemon walking towards the other set of stairs on the other side of the floor. A few afflicted people were here as well.
They must be after Green... Red thought with panic. there weren't a whole lot of them, but a large amount of these Pokemon could be downstairs with Green already.
One of the humans noticed Red and turned his gaze towards him. Just what Red needed. Attention. But then again, he couldn't exactly sneak past everyone. He was gonna have to fight past them, but that would take too much time...

    Chapter 12 - A Critical Misjudgement!

I don't have time for this... Red thought with frustration as some of the glitchy Pokemon and trainers had noticed Red and moved to bar his path. Some were still moving downstairs. Green could be overwhelmed at any second, and these guys kept getting in his way...

"Charizard, take flight and use Flamethrower!" Red called, throwing Charizard's Pokeball and throwing it into the air. A bright flash of red light formed Charizard, who let out a mighty roar and unleashed a burst of flames at the group.
Some of them were defeated instantly and froze, emitting ear screeching sounds before they disappeared.

One of the Ditto took Charizard's form and raised itself near the ceiling to attack with Slash. With the spacious basement floors, Charizard was able to evade the attack, but now several Grimer launched sludge at Charizard. he wouldn't be able to move in time...

"Dragonair, Ice Beam!" A voice shouted behind Red, and a blue serpent like creature whizzed past his head, unleashing a freezing bolt of ice towards the sludge, turning it to ice which bounced harmlessly off Charizard.
What the-? Red was confused, turning his head, he saw the Dragon Master of the Elite Four, Lance, looking rather annoyed while another Dragonair swan through the air around him.

"Come on Red, you showed better skill during our match!" Lance told him. Red should have told Charizard counter with Wing Attack. The attack should over power the Ditto-zard's Slash.
But... Charizard would've been knocked out... Red thought. Normally, he would done something like that, but with these minions of Missingno, the attack might backfire horribly. It seemed Lance didn't know about their strength yet.

Two Growlithe tried to use Ember on Charizard and Dragonair, while one of the trainers threw a pixellated Pokeball, releasing a Fearow.
Eevee whimpered in pain as Red and Lance quickly directed their Pokemon to evade and counter. There were still quite a few to fight past, and they were wasting time.
"Lance, could you cover me? I need to reach Green!" Red asked in between commands. Lance briefly glanced at him.

"If he's here, I can do that." Lance confirmed. His two Dragonair flew above the odd creatures, trying to attract their attention while attacking.
"Charizard!" red called, running towards the group. Charizard swooped low, aiming bursts of fire towards the Pokemon in front of them. Red heard Lance summon another of his Pokemon. From the cry it emitted, it might have been the ancient fossil Pokemon, Aerodactyl. It was amazing the place was bursting at the seems with all the Pokemon.

Red reached the stairs, which were blocked by yet more Pokemon. How many were there?!
"Flamethrower!" Red called, and Charizard roasted the Pokemon on the stairs. They disappeared momentarily, and Red descended the stairs. Red could see Green through the remaining Pokemon and trainers.

Green was struggling, Red could see. He only had Pidgeot and Exxegutor left, his other Pokemon most likely fainted. Green was concentrating too hard on the enemy to notice Red.
We made it! Now to get rid of the rest... Red thought with relief.

    ---------------------------------------

Mewtwo charged straight at Missingno at high speed, his fist coated in a purple flame. It was a psychic projection of fire that allowed to use Fire Punch. He slammed his fist into the centre of Missingno, who flew towards the sea at the island's East Coast.

Without pausing, Mewtwo coated his other fist in purple electricity, and flew at Missingno, this time unleashing Thunder Punch, launching it into the air. Finally, Mewtwo sped past Missingno, coating his left fist in purple tinted ice, and smashed Missingno into the water with Ice Punch as soon as it came near.

Missingno hit the water's surface with a resounding splash and kept going down. Mewtwo watched from his position, unable to mentally detect it.
Minutes went by with nothing happening. Was it really defeated? Those weren't Mewtwo's strongest attacks, yet those beat the entity?

Perhaps it had sustained damage after all... Mewtwo figured, closing his eyes and grinning a little. His frown returned after a few seconds. This proved he was indeed the strongest life form around. There was nothing else with any strength to speak off.

Mewtwo's thoughts briefly wandered to the humans in the abandoned building. The Pokemon raised by them were indeed strong...
Hmph. They couldn't beat that creature, they have no chance against me. Mewtwo decided. There was nothing left to challenge his strength.

    Except the Original.

Of course. Mewtwo just realised Mew was closing in fast, no doubt to explore the disturbance. Perhaps Mew had the strength to match him?
Mewtwo was ready to meet Mew, but he sensed a sudden surge of energy coming from below.
Surprised, Mewtwo looked down, and saw what looked like a whirlpool forming over the spot Missingno had sunk towards the ocean floor.

Without warning, a huge jet of water shot at him, large enough to engulf the entire island.
Hydro Pump?! Mewtwo wondered wildly. It seemed to big to be Hydro Pump, but this thing could rapid fire Solar Beam after all.
The water hit Mewtwo, who took a huge hit. With a grunt, Mewtwo struggled to concentrate hard enough to use Teleport. He succeeded and warped a few metres away from the island, which was being assaulted by the water cascading down.

That power... Perhaps he is worthy of my attention. Mewtwo thought, panting heavily from the attack. He had been taken by surprise. He wouldn't let that happen again.

    Chapter 13 - Frustration Abound!

Red had to clear out the glitched Pokemon to reach Green. Thinking quickly, Red ordered Charizard to use Fire Spin to surround Green with a wall of flames. Green was surprised when he saw fire shooting towards him, then surrounding him. At first he thought he was being attacked by a new enemy, then he noticed that the attack was merely defending him.
"Red? You're here?" Green called out. Red didn't answer as he was busy ordering Charizard to use Flamethrower on the crowd while Green's Pidgeot and Exxegutor moved away from all the flames.

Finally, the room had been cleared of the minions, and the flames from Fire Spin petered out. Green looked around the room before focusing on Red.
"Y'know I didn't really need your help." Green told him, slightly annoyed that he did need help. "I could've handled them al-"
Green stopped and stared at Red's Eevee, which whimpered and quivered in Red's arms. The pixels had spread, coating most of Eevee's face with them. Green looked at Eevee for a while before turning his attention to Red, who stared at his Eevee with a pained and worried look on his face.

"Red, what happened? Did you find the cause of this?" Green asked. Red nodded.
Green looked at Red expectantly, waiting for an explanation. "And...?" Green tried to coax an answer out of him.
"... I lost." Red said simply. "I was beaten without even scratching that thing. And now Eevee's..."
Green stared at Red in surprise. He hadn't expected him to be defeated, and so easily, going by his explanation. But his attitude was irritating Green. Red wasn't the type to be depressed over a loss. If his Pokemon was suffering, he wasn't supposed to act like al hope was lot.

"Well do something about it then." Green told Red sharply. "You're the new Champion, aren't you? Get back out there and fight whatever it was that you fought!"
"I can't!" Red argued, keeping his head down, obscuring his face with his hat. My team's nearly all wiped out! Even at with three Pokemon at full power, we didn't affect it at all!"
Green glared at Red for a moment, before walking past him and heading up the stairs. "Tch. Some Champion. I knew your victory was a fluke." Green muttered bitterly. "Exxegutor, Pidgeot! Let's go!"

Green and his remaining Pokemon nearly collided with Lance, who had managed to dispatch the glitched minions and rushed for the stairs, his Pokemon in tow.
"Green! You're okay!" Lance exclaimed. "H-hey! Where're you going?!" Lance enquired in surprise as he kept walking.
"I'm gonna beat whatever Red's too afraid off." Green told him, not looking back.
Lance gave him a confused look. "Green, on't go out there, there's an immensely powerful Pokemon out there-"

Lance was interrupted by a great crashing from above. The wave from Missingno's Hydro Pump smashed onto the island, destroying many buildings on the surface. The abandoned building was no exception as the upper floors were damaged by the surge of water. Some of the water reached the lower levels, although it merely soaked the floor.
"What are they doing up there?!" Lance muttered in shock. "Red! Are you okay!"

Red didn't answer as he trudged slowly upstairs. His Eevee continued to whimper in his arms. Lance's eyes widened when he saw that it seemed to be transforming slowly into those... things.
"Red... how..." Lance muttered. "Just what is causing this?"
"... I call it 'Missingno." Red told him.

    --------------------------------------

You're not to be underestimated. Mewtwo told Missingno, who seemed to float there, totally unaware of its surroundings. Given its apparent lack of thought, Mewtwo wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
Concentrating his energy, Mewtwo used Recover, healing the worst of his damage. Then, he cleared his mind of all thought for a moment, using Amnesia to boost his powers immensely. Maybe it would be enough to harm the creature.

Mewtwo flew at the creature with frightening speed, grabbing it as he passed. He dragged the pixellated thing towards the drowned island, and launched it at the ground.
It smashed into the concrete floor of the island with a resounding thud. Before it could move, Mewtwo blasted the thing with Confusion. His aim was to confuse the creature, hopefully forcing Missingno to attack itself with its own power as well as Mewtwo's.

It didn't seem to work though, as it lifted itself off the ground, still unharmed despite Mewtwo's boosted strength.
Could a human really have created such a monster? Mewtwo wondered.
He brought his two hands together at his side, charging a Shadow Ball. Before he could unleash it, a bright pink light appeared between Mewtwo and Missingno.
Almost immediately, a small, pink creature appeared before them, looking about. Mew had made it halfway to Cinnabar before it was within teleporting distance to the island.

It looked around the area curiously. It saw its clone, holding back a Shadow Ball attack, and there was the source of Mew's discomfort behind it. And a thoroughly wrecked island.
... Mew. Don't interfere. Mewtwo warned with a venomous tone. This is my fight. A weakling like you has no place here.
"Muu!" The petite monster protested, not taking kindly to being called weak. It hurriedly dodged the Shadow Ball Mewtwo had decided to throw, allowing it to collide with Missingno, who was thrown back towards the ground.

Mew took the time to concentrate on the unwordly creature. It was no Pokemon. At least, not a natural one. Mew could sense faint traces of a man made creature deep within the shell of this thing.
But why was it like this? Why had it transformed into a mindless creature with such destructive power? Mew was determined to find the answer, then get back to playing.

Chapter 14 - The Small Reveal

"M-Missingno?" Lance repeated in confusion. "What does that mean?"
"Missing Number." Red confirmed quietly. Eevee shivered in his arms still. Red hated just standing there, explaining what his idiotic name for some unnatural creature, but what could he do? His Pokemon was becoming like the inhabitants of this island: pixellated blocks, serving the master pixel monster. They gained freakish levels of power at the cost of terrible endurance, except Missingno itself. That thing was invincible.

Green had stopped to hear what Red had to say. All it was was just what he called the monster that caused this trouble. Big help. Green figured it would be safe to move upstairs now. Lance was too busy questioning Red on what the hell was happening in Cinnabar to notice him.
"Well, anyway..." Lance directed his attention to Eevee. "Whatever is affecting the people and Pokemon here is affecting your Eevee. How can we stop it?"
Red shook his head, at a complete loss. How could he help his Pokemon?
"Try this." Lance reached into his pouch hanging from his belt, and produced a square, green and white bottle. "Maybe a Full Restore'll help it..."
Lance sprayed the contents of the bottle over Eevee. The powerful potion didn't seem to alleviate any of the Pokemon's pain. It continued to whimper and tremble as the pixel's spread further. Eevee's entire head was now a blocky mess.

Red clenched his eyes shut, trying to hold back his tears. His Pokemon was like this because of him, and there wasn't anything he could do about it.
Lance looked at Eevee with a grim expression. So the potion was ineffective. Looking up at Red, he said, "Are your other Pokemon hurt? I might have enough of this stuff to heal yours and Green's Pokemon."
Lance turned his head to see Green had left. With a disgruntled sigh, he stood up. "Why'd that idiot need to rush out there?! Red, let's go!"
Lance headed for the stairs, walking at a fast pace, his Dragonair's and Aerodactyl following from above.
Red didn't move immediately. He looked at Eevee through teary eyes. "I'm sorry. I can't stop this... this thing from happening to you." Red whispered, and slowly began following Lance.

    -------------------------------

"Stupid Red, acting all wimpy over one set back..." Green muttered to himself as he headed for the building's exit. The one floor on ground level had been washed out by the water. A lot of the walls on the east side had been damaged. That must have been the direction the water had come from.
Green headed outside, looking around in shock. The island had been flooded while they were in the basement floors. Just about every building had been seriously damaged by the surge of water. But what had caused it? This wasn't a natural occurence on Cinnabar.
He could faintly hear the sounds of battle from the ast side of the island, where Red had been investigating. Who was fighting? He vaguely recalled Lance saying something about another Pokemon coming here. Maybe that was tied to the random flood?

Green hurriedly made his way closer, and before long saw an amazing sight.
There he saw what looked a giant, pink block of pixels. A rectangle that got thicker on its lower half. Floating opposite to it was a humanoid, purple Pokemon. The thing had a fierce gaze and an aura that seemed to radiate power. Finally, there was a smaller, pink Pokemon that had a vague resemblance to the fierce creature. It flew around the other two creatures, although Green didn't know why it was so casual around these two.
Green peered closer to the small Pokemon. There was something familiar about it... Didn't his Grandfather describe that Pokemon to him once?

Wait a minute! Green pulled out his Pokedex and hurriedly pointed it towards the feline creature. After a few seconds, data for Mew flashed on screen.
"So that was Mew..." Green muttered in awe. A Pokemon believed to be a myth was here. Incredible! Then what were the other two?
He pointed the Pokedex towards the fierce Pokemon next. It took a little longer to analyse, but finally something came up:
"Mewtwo?" Green muttered with a confused frown. He hadn't heard of that befoe, and its data section was blank. Was it a new Pokemon?
Green looked at the group again. Mewtwo had charged at the blocky creature, which Green assumed was the 'Missingno' Red was talking about.Mewtwo hit it with a fierce uppercut, sending it flying higher into the air.
This attack was immediately followed by a black ball formed between the Pokemon's hands and launched, hitting Missingno's directly. Mewtwo then pointed at the Pokemon, and brought its hand down. This Caused the Missingno, caught in Mewtwo's Psychic attack, to plummet towards the ocean. As soon as it touched the water, Mewtwo charged his kinetic energy, converting it to electricity and unleashing an incredibly powerful Thunder.

The electricity struck the water and sent powerful shocks throughout the coast. The Missingno was repeatedly blasted with powerful blasts of thunder, held underwater by Mewtwo's Psychic energy. Eventually, Mewtwo's attack ended, and Mewtwo lifted the ravaged creature from the ocean.
To Green's surprise (and Mewtwo's annoyance) there wasn't a blemish upon the pixellated monster. It still looked completely unharmed, and hadn't uttered a single sound.
Is that... why Red couldn't win? Green wondered, his eyes wide. Maybe Red had a good reason to give up... But it wasn't like Red to give up. He always found a way to overcome enemies, no matter how strong. Green had bitter memories of their past battles. Early on, he managed to win, but eventually Red began using much more effective strategies to counter him, eventually surpassing him at the Championship Battle. If this thing apparently can't be defeated conventionally, then perhaps there was an alternative...?

"Green! Green! Hey!" A voice called behind him. Turning his head, he saw Lance hurrying over with Red following at a slower pace.
"Honestly, why'd you have to come out here yourself? You're lucky that thing di..." Lance began to berate Green, but the sight in front of him made him quiet down in shock. "M-Mew?!"

    -------------------------------

Mew circled the two combatants from above, watching them battle - or rather, watch Mewtwo launch a volley of attacks in an attempt to damage the creature. It seemed like the creature had an impregnable shell. Mewtwo's furious assault done nothing to harm it. And Mew was sensing nothing natural about this creature. It felt like a... corrupted life form.
But Mew was sensing more life forms. Most of them felt similar to this pixellated monstrosity. There were, however, some humans and Pokemon that remained safe. Mostly somewhere near the island's volcano in the south west.

And a few near the island's banks.

Curious, the small Pokemon turned its gaze towards the island. There, it saw a few humans with some Pokemon. One however, drew Mew's attention and he flew over to the surprised group.
In the arms of one of the boys was an Eevee, which seemed to be in the midst of becoming one of those corrupted creatures. It was clearly afraid and in pain. The trainer as well looked depressed and helpless.
"Muu..." Mew whispered to the Eevee, patting its head. Eevee, despite its fear and pain, began to feel calmed at the touch. Red gazed at Mew and Eevee, wondering what it was doing.

Mew was known as the 'DNA' Pokemon, said to be composed of the DNA of every Pokemon species in the world. Not known to humans, however, was how vast Mew's power was. Not in the sense of battle, but in its ability manipulate the DNA structure of any Pokemon of its choosing. Not that this ability was ever used. Pokemon weren't meant to be altered from the way they are now. Doing so would only bring a detrimental effect to the species.
In this case however, a Pokemon was being altered by an alien force. Mew had to reverse the damage somehow. In doing so, it could perhaps find a way to combat the source of this madness itself and bring an end to the monster.

Chapter 15 - Daytime Evolution Machina

Mew placed both its hands upon Eevee's head, closed its eyes and began to concentrate. Red, Green and Lance watched the legendary Pokemon as it began to counter Missingno's infection.
Mew called upon the Eevee DNA within its own being as it traced Eevee's biological construction. From what it could see, the Pokemon's DNA was being forcefully altered and mutated. It was like corrupted evolution.

Red watched Eevee apprehensively. It remained calm and quiet, as if Mew's touch was enough to quell any negative emotion. Mew remained completely focused on Eevee's DNA. It was going to begin telepathically reconstructing the corrupted DNA.
Mew projected a part of its being into the Pokemon, causing it to begin shuddering in shock at the transfusion. Mew was attempting to overwrite the Pokemon's altered DNA with a new genetic code, but it wasn't working. Missingno's influence was powerful.

Eevee yelped in fear as the conflicting DNA fought for dominance. Red hugged his Pokemon tighter, trying to calm him back down.
"You'll be fine, Eevee. I promise, Mew'll make it all better." Red soothed his Pokemon, but it had little effect. It's body was undergoing serious alterations from two conflicting forces.
Mew struggled to combat Missingno's corruption. It hadn't expected the procedure to be so difficult. Even though this was Mew's greatest ability, Missingno could match with its own form of DNA alteration.

Mew began to realise that 'overwriting' the corrupted Eevee DNA with a brand of Eevee DNA simply wasn't enough. If it was going to reverse the corruption, it would need to force an evolution to completely rewrite Eevee's genetic code.
Mew added a new DNA strand to Eevee: the ability to use Psychic abilities. Mew was attempting to force it to evolve into a Pokemon not seen in Kanto.
It was a success, Mew was now beginning to delete the corrupted DNA within Eevee and replacing it with the DNA of a new Pokemon.

Red watched with anxiety as his Eevee continued to wail in fear and pain. He didn't like seeing his Pokemon suffer through so much, and he didn't know if Mew was succeeding or not. Eventually, Eevee quietened down and Mew opened its eyes, a look of slight exhaustion its eyes.
"D-did it work?" Red asked hopefully. Before Mew could reply, Eevee began glowing a bright white light.
"What's going on?" Green asked in surprise as he watched Eevee.
"It's... evolving?" Lance watched as Eevee began to slowly change its shape into something else. But what? He's never heard of Eevee evolving without a stone before...

    ----------------------------------

Mewtwo watched Missingno as it was suspended by Mewtwo's power. The creature would have been at his mercy if it wasn't virtually invulnerable.
How can this creature be beaten? Mewtwo wondered, glaring at this creature. It had shown the capability to be not only his equal, but far superior. He didn't like being outclassed so badly by some freak accident looking monster.
From the look of things, it has no mind to manipulate, its body is unscratchable, and its attacks are overwhelmingly powerful. How could such a force exist?

Missingno, who apparently wasn't aware of being held telekinetically, suddenly disappeared.
It can even Teleport?! Mewtwo scanned the area around him. Was it trying to to attack from behind?
As soon as he wheeled around to face an attack, Missingno reappeared behind him. It was like it fooled Mewtwo into looking the wrong way. Before he could register what Missingno had just done, it began to glow pure white, and a second later had exploded in a bright flash of smoke.

Mewtwo, who had managed to teleport away from the explosion, was seething with rage. He had been tricked by a mindless monster, and he hadn't gotten away unscathed. His back had been exposed to the powerful technique the second he warped from his location, leaving it a burned mess. He was barely levitating above the sea, severely weakened by the attack.
The clone looked up at the sky, were the smoke from Missingno's Explosion still lingered, obscuring his view. With an attack that was supposed to knock out the user, surely that abomination would be beaten too?

Mewtwo wasn't going to take any chances. With that smoke in the way, Missingno could still be operating at one hundred percent capacity for all he knew. Pointing his hand at the smoke, he used his Psychic attack, aiming a blast of mental energy at the location Missingno may still be.
To his surprise, his attack seemed to hit something - and bounce right back. Had Missingno reflected his attack?! That meant it was still conscious!
Without any energy remaining to move or Teleport, Mewtwo braced himself for the attack. However, before it struck him down, Mew sped in front of him, putting up a Light Screen and blocking the attack.

The effort of maintaining the Light Screen against a powerful Psychic attack that seemed to only get stronger when reflected put a huge strain on Mew, who was inferior to its clone in sheer power. It had managed to successfully block the attack however, and hovered in front of Mewtwo, panting slightly.
Mew?... I told you, this is my battle! Mewtwo growled mentally, angered at having been saved by another.
"Muu Muu!" Mew protested. 'Don't be stupid! A lot of lives are involved in this already!'

Mewtwo glared at his original. He didn't like Mew assuming command over him. He had come to fight, and he was going to fight.
"Muu muu, Mu!" Mew continued. 'Besides, this isn't something a Pokemon can't beat alone.'

Before Mewtwo could reply, he heard a human give commands to his Pokemon, and a second later, five huge white beams flew towards Missingno, the smoke now nearly completely gone.
Lance stood on the shore of Cinnabar, his Aerodactyl and two Dragonair's in the air above him, his Gyarados in the water in front of him, and Dragonite at his side. They had all fired a Hyper Beam at the exact same time and struck Missingno.

Behind Lance and his Pokemon, stood Red and Green. Their Pokemon had been restored with Lance's medicine, and all were ready to do battle.
One notable difference in Red's team was the violet Pokemon with a red gem in its forehead. This Pokemon, unseen in Kanto, had been in Red's arms after Eevee evolved. Everyone looked in shock when they saw a brand new Pokemon were Eevee been a second before.
"W-what is that?" Green asked in awe.
"Esp! Espeon!" The mysterious Pokemon called, looking up at Red. He had stared at his Pokemon in surprise, before a bright smile appeared on his face and he gripped it in a hug. His tears had threatened to flow, but he held them back. His Pokemon was safe, but before he could celebrate, there was still the matter of Missingno.

After Lance had brought out his Full Restores and passed them around to Red and Green's Pokemon, they had heard the Explosion set off by Missingno. Mew had immediately flown off, leaving the three trainers to prepare to take on Missingno together.
They weren't sure if they could do much - if any - damage, but maybe with numbers, they could overwhelm Missingno's impregnable exterior. And Red's new Pokemon, apparently known as 'Espeon', seemed like a rather powerful addition to Red's formidable team. Perhaps they had a chance after all.
