I was looking up the information on the digital eshop releases of the Generation 1 games and it says Red, Blue, Green and Yellow will be released worldwide on February 27th in the 3DS eshop. It mentioned the Green version in on that as well. So, does this mean what I think it does? An official English version of Green? That's so exciting!

I think it would be awesome to be able to play Pokémon Green in English, as if you aren't from Japan like me we didn't get chance to play this game o_O

I'm fairly certain it means the Japanese will receive the versions which were released over there, and we will be getting those that were localised and released in North America. In fact, I have no doubt. Remember that the Japanese Red is paired with said Green Version, so ignoring the fact that no one is going to do more than is necessary for everyone involved to make tons of money off the release, translating the Japanese Red and Green would mean that we would be getting, at least, Japanese Red, Green, and the English RBY. Also, then, what would become of the Japanese Blue?

It's just too improbable in my mind. The Japanese will re-receive what they were originally given, as will we; nothing more.

That's what I thought but the site says otherwise. I'm just going by what I read from a trusted source.

It specifically said that Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow would all be released in English? Or did it just say they would be released? Because if the latter, that doesn't confirm that we're getting an English Green release. I am curious though, do you have a link to the site you got this from? :)

I'm thinking that, like Raburesu said, it's more likely that we're going to get re-releases of whatever version came out in our respective regions. But if we did get an English Pokemon Green Version release then I'd be interested in playing it just for the novelty of getting to play it in English haha. The main one I'll be playing is Yellow though, so I'd be fine if we didn't get Green in English.

Fan sites like the serebii or bulbapedia might have confused you.
The Japanese 3DS/2DS consoles are able to purchase all four versions from their e-shop. While the international versions, including the English one, can only get Red, Blue, and Yellow.

    Hope that helps! (:

wait so Japan gets 4, and we get 3? how is that fair?

Pokemon Green was only released in Japan two decades ago (I can believe it's two decades already).

The Red and Blue international versions were actually slightly different than the original Japanese Red, Green and Blue; the international Red and Blue kinda compiled their original Japanese counterparts, including bug fixes and using the sprites from the Japanese Blue version, which was incidentally the first ever third version.

If I recall correctly, Game Freak said that they believe Venusaur's image doesn't appeal too much to the western audience, therefore an international Green wasn't released.

Ironically, Venusaur was the best Starter... >_>

Without going into detail about what fixes were applied to what and if we judge it simply by available Pokémon, which is the only difference between Gen 1 releases other than Yellow: we already have Pokémon Green in English, only with less bugs, it's called Pokémon Blue internationally. If there's one game we are not getting, it's the Japanese Blue, not the Japanese Green.

I don't mind the fact that we are getting one game less. The Japanese are basically getting two games that, in terms of stability are pretty much Alpha versions (Red and Green), one that could be called a Beta (Blue) and one that is close to being a stable product (Yellow). We get two Beta versions (Red and Blue) and one stable one (Yellow) . I will not cry over not getting glitchier versions of games I can buy in a much more finalized state.

Besides, it's all the same game anyway.

Huh, I like venusaur. Oh well.

Ironically, Venusaur was the best Starter... >_>

If you two understand this trope, then I don't have to further explain, hahaha.

And yes, that's the reason why Blastoise 'took' Venusaur's place. XD

Fortunately that didn't happen again with FRLG, I guess that's because:
    - Pokemon is already well known at that time; so is Venusaur;
    - the officials want to unify the franchise, meaning only one standard.

I'd be a little more upset over it if there were huge differences between them...but all in all Red, Blue, and Green are essentially all the same game. Out of the four, the only one that really stands out as different from the rest is Yellow. I doubt many people in Japan are going to get Green anyways, since it's an older, more buggy version.

It's like what Sun said, the versions available will obviously be a region-exclusive thing. Non-Japanese players will just get Red, Blue and Yellow, even if it was different over in Japan.

Like Nathan said, international audiences also get the short end of the stick more often than their Japanese counterparts. Because Japan is the birthplace of Pokemon. Another thing that points to internationals getting only 3 of the 4 is the 2DS bundles coming to Europe/Australia, having only Red/Blue/Yellow while Japan also has Green.
