Do you guys do this in Pokemon D/P/Pt? How did you find this activity? Is it worthwhile and is this worth the effort? I want to do this but I want to hear first from people who actually already did.

Umm... let's put it this way... it's super hard, somewhat relies on luck, requires loads of patience and all your hard work can suddenly go down the drain in a flash ^ ^"

But if you succeed, you can hoard a whole bunch of shines of the Pokemon you're chaining. I usually settle for 4 shinies, 7 if it's good looking or I've had a hard time chaining them. Pachirisu's the easiest one for me.

I admit, it was thanks to this that I managed to trade for event Pokes here, as well as other shinies I couldn't get myself.

So, is it worth it? Depends if you like shinies. Loads of shinies of one same Pokemon. If you just want a certain shiny, go for RNG-ing. Personally, I just started with chaining cause I was annoyed how my brother got a random shiny Electrike in his Ruby while I never found one even though I've played longer... Ironically, my first chained shiny was also Electrike =3=

I'd have to agree with Shiny Gardevoir—chaining is quite hard. When you're chaining with your PokéRader, you would always have to make sure the you're encountering the same Pokémon over and over. If you end up stumbling into a different Pokémon, even by mistake, then poof—you've broken your chain. PokéRader does make it a little easier to encounter shinies, but they still remain very rare. I've once chained Bidoof for approximately thirty-seven times, but haven't been able to meet a shiny version of it even once. I would've continued the chain, but I was required to stop because my parents wanted me to take me somewhere. I could've taken my DS with me if I had the chance, but unfortunately, my dad didn't allow me to. :( If he did though, then I probably would have been able to run into a shiny Bidoof already and have it captured.

Yeah, any chainer will tell you patience is the key word. I was pretty pissed after my chain disappeared after 39 Oddish. But there's no greater feeling in my mind than seeing that shiny patch glow, so I highly recommend it.

I gave chaining a try on numerous occasions, but never found myself able to get past a chain of 25 or so, even though I thought I was following all the correct steps. If I had a little more patience, I'd go back and try it again since the reward can really be worth it, but it would have to be for a Pokemon I know I'd use a lot, as I don't think I'd be all that satisfied with a shiny Bidoof :p

I really sucked at chaining, so, in my opinion, I wouldn't say it was worth it. I had a mediocre chain of 5, my highest chain before I restarted Diamond.

my highest chain ever was a nicada (7)

if anything, I'd want a shiny nicada because when it evolves you get both a shiny ninjask and a shedinja

I've never had the patience to chain in DPPt/HGSS for shinies, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong though, I've had a go at chaining, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

lol yeah, seeing the shiny patch is very rewarding >w<

Speaking of chaining, there was one time I was chaining when Cresselia came and broke it :/
That's what pushed me to finally catch that thing XD

Anyway, like what I said, chaining helps you hoard shinies. For someone like me who can't clone Pokemon, I had to rely on hoarding so that I can trade them, at the same time, keep a shiny (or two) for myself ^ _ ^

For beginners, I recommend electric types with someone with static on top of the team (best bet is Electrike I suppose, since it comes in swarms)... And I dunno, maybe it might just be me, but also try the area with the Swellows I think? It was when I caught a couple of shiny Absols in that area that my chaining spree went on continuously...

It's worth it. for me, it took 3-4 hours, but I somehow managed to get a shiny ralts on a chain of one. HALLALOUAH

repels, repels and more repels. They'll keep random pokemon from breaking your chain on your way to a shaking patch.
I've chained many shinies in Platinum, The majority were Budews & Shinxs. Be sure to use certain abilities to their fullest, Static, magnet pull, Synchronize etc. Sync is a must in my book, there's nothing worse than finally getting a Shiny Abra only to find out it's an Adamant nature,

I chained a shiny Bidoof ( 34) and I almost chained an shiny pachirisu but an stupid buziel broke the chain.

I'd actually like to admit, I actually think chaining is fun. The satisfaction of a shiny is amazing, and it's cool watching the numbers climb. I do, however, have time to burn, and this isn't exactly the most efficient method ever.

I've chained for a shiny once, and got my reward after a good few hours of doing so; a shiny Mareep! I don't really think it's worth it, however, because it is really boring and takes a long time. I tried it a few times before and it didn't work, which is another problem. If something breaks your chain you stare at your DS like "ffffffffuuuuuuuuu"

Yeah; chaining is hard. I didn't know what to do first, as I was a noob and was obviously new to this stuff, lmao x3 The grass has many different variations, and it was like HELL for me to decide to tell which one to go into. Unless the grass was really obvious, haha :P

Well, I'm super fond of it. Why? Because I got threeee Shiny Beldum outta it. I guess my hard work finally paid off back then! :) I'll tell you now though, it requires a TON is patience. You need to be prepared too! If all goes well, you'll get yourself a few jolly good shinies. You might end up getting a few extra, ooonly if your chain doesn't break :P

It's hard, it's frustrating but it's worth the price. I should say this made my shiny hunt easier, but don't try this at home before you have finished every other thing in the game, because your DS may have to go to repair after the showcase of your anger on the device. Nope, it's not funny. I played on an emulator at first so I couldn't bash up the computer, but I never tried chaining again, since I felt that my shiny hunt on the emulator was enough.
