Since the old thread was closed, might as well remake this.

In Black 2 and White 2, completing the Pokedex gives us more than a simple diploma, unless if you count the Poke Radar in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. If you see all the Pokemon in the New Unova Pokedex, you can go to the Nature Preserve, which is full of Pokemon you can catch, along with a Shiny Haxorus. Completing the New Unova Pokedex (excluding Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect) will give you the Round Charm, which increases the likelihood of your Pokemon producing an egg while breeding. And even better, completing the entire National Pokedex (again, barring those four event Legendaries mentioned earlier) will give you the Shiny Charm, which makes Shiny encounters three times as likely in the wild and by breeding, in fact the probability when breeding even exceeds the popular Masuda Method, which I have to say was surprising.

What were your thoughts on these rewards? Did they make you want to complete the Pokedex? Share your thoughts.

Well I've never actually tried to complete the national dex, as that's too much work in my mind haha. That being said, I am trying to complete the new unova dex, less so because of the rewards, but more so as a challenge to myself to actually complete a dex :P While the rewards don't really motivate me personally to complete the dexes, I do think they're pretty awesome rewards. And these rewards are the ones that motivate me to complete the dexes, if there weren't other factors (like laziness etc) inhibiting that want haha. (hm I hope that made sense! XD)

Well, actually I'm sort of trying to complete the regional dex in B2, but it's not because of the rewards - it's because of the Habitat list on the Pokedex, and the fact that it has a visual display of what's available on each route, and keeps track there of what I've seen and caught. I've always caught pretty much everything new that's available in a game, just because my favorite part of the games is getting to know new pokemon - testing them out and seeing what they can do, leveling them up and seeing what they learn and what they evolve into, that sort of stuff. But I never went out of my way to literally "catch 'em all" until now. Something about that straightforward habitat list, with its simple symbols to show what's on each route and if I've seen or caught all of them compels me. I just have to get that pokeball stamp on all of them.

After that though - I'll have to evolve stuff to complete the dex, and it's anybody's guess whether I'll actually do that or not, though I'll have come that far, so I just might.

I'm not sure how I feel about the charms. The Round Charm sounds pretty good, and speeding up the breeding process is a good thing, but the Shiny Charm bothers me a bit. Granted, it's not like it makes it easy to get a shiny or anything - just easier. From terribly unlikely to not-quite-so-terribly unlikely. But still... I'm afraid that if/when I get the charm, finding a shiny will be less satisfying, just because the odds were better. Probably a good thing then that it's exceedingly unlikely that I'll ever complete the national dex.

I actually just completed my New Unova Dex a day or two ago (seeing all the Pokemon, not catching them quite yet), and was a little disappointed with the Permit and the Nature Preserve. I caught the shiny Haxorus, but it feels similar to the Red Gyarados in that it isn't very special since anyone can get it. The Pokemon there also weren't that exciting, as I'd already transferred over a decent number of them from my Gen IV games.

As for the Round Charm, this will be another "special" item that will fall flat for me. I can probably count on one hand how many eggs my Pokemon have had that I actually hatched, and I didn't plan on getting too many more. The Shiny Charm does interest me, though, since it's still highly unlikely that we'll run into a shiny Pokemon (1/2700), but it greatly improves our odds. I wouldn't see the shiny Pokemon as being any less special, though, since chaining in DPPt already dropped that number to 1/200. It may take me a very long time to get anywhere near a full National Dex, though, and I wouldn't be surprised if I never do.

All in all, I guess the items that we get as bonuses are okay, but at least they're better than a certificate that isn't good for anything else except recognition.

I already have one National Dex completed in Black. Once I finish the New Unova Dex (right now, just the new Unova Dex, but I already have a Rhyhorn from Black and others from Dream Radar), I'll just get some babies traded over and away I go. The Shiny Charm can be useful for filling a trade shop, after all, and I actually have run into two different Shiny Audinos myself in the wild without the charm yet (Virbank Complex got away when a crit. occurred, but I caught Route 23's find).

i am currently working on completing my pokedex. i currently am only missing 4 for my regional dex and then im going to work on completing the national dex. i would really love that shiny charm.
the shiny charm and the shiny haxorus are the only reason i really am completing the dex. i never have before but i feel those are worth all the time spent on it.

While I completed my National Pokedex in my Black 2 to get the Haxorus and the two Charms, I don't actually need them. I can RNG so the prizes are pretty pointless to me other than for the sake of having them. However for players who cannot RNG, I feel it is a pretty good prize even if the Shiny Charm is pretty difficult to get for certain players.

Well, fully completing a Pokedex was something that I've never done before, so I never came across these rewards. The problem is, you have to trade to complete the Pokedex, and that even with a Shiny Charm, I think that it will still be hard to find Shinys in the Pokemon World.

I wanted to complete most of the Pokedex for another reason: To increase my chances of getting a critical capture so that I could use just ultra balls or dusk balls to catch legendaries (Which I haven't been lucky :(). Still, I think that catching a legendary without a master ball is just as rare as finding a Shiny.
