You may have seen it in my signature. Now I'm making a thread about it.

The Pokémon Essentials Wiki is exactly what the name suggests. It's a wiki that contains all available information about poccil's Essentials kit, as well as being a place where people can put their tutorials and other things like that. I made it because I grew tired of waiting for PokéCommunity to get its own wiki (you may recall mention of one a few months back), and because having a wiki for the Essentials documentation would be very useful as everyone can contribute.

At the moment it's missing a lot of articles, but that's because it's new and I haven't been advertising it much. Please drop by and see what you can do to help make it better.

This thread is also for general discussion about the wiki. What articles are missing? Which articles are the most important, and what information should they contain? Voice your opinions!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As well as more articles, the wiki is also in need of a logo. It's up to you to design one!

The logo should be 216 x 155 pixels in size. That's only this big:
    [PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon Essentials Wiki

If you think you can create a nice logo, then do so!

I don't like the layout too much or the fact that it's made on the free make a site type thing but to contribute I suggest.
    You get free hosting
    https://x10hosting.com/ is a good place.
Get a free wiki that doesn't require ads, it will look more professional.
Lastly what would be nice is when typing something into the search bar stuff came up like on google and youtube, say I type in EGG
The choices would be something like:
    How to give an egg
    KingCharizards random egg script
and anything else tagged as egg

Just my two cents, also this should be in the resource section.

The layout is just what I threw together. It's subject to change if necessary.

I don't know much about hosting. What exactly is it, and what are the advantages to what we have at the moment?

What place offers free wikis without ads? Wikia may have ads, but Firefox (which is what I use) blocks them, so it looks professional enough to me already. Plus it's convenient.

Page suggestions do pop up if you type something into the search box. There just aren't many pages to suggest at the moment. If you type in "item", you'll see all item-related pages.

As for "should be in the resource section", then technically so should the Essentials thread. It seems to have survived out here, though, and as this thread is directly related to it, I don't see why they should be split up.

Actually, Wikia is a really good host and software provider. And it's not like he needs this amazing flash layout or anything, it's a wiki for crying out loud. People are going there for information. If their smart, anyhow.

In general though, it might be a good idea to add infoboxes and such. But it's a good start, Maruno.
Infoboxes that display what? I can do that easily, but I don't know why I would. Why have them?

Well hosting would provide it ad-free mainly, anyways wikia is hosting software that is available to you so simply hosting it yourself would improve it. Anyways it was obviously just a suggestion... oh and a last thing is you would have more control over the wiki itself.

I may write an article for it sometime.

I had an attempt at a logo(Don't know if it's any good)

    Another attempt :)

I actually think that the second one would fit quite well...
I usually just refer to the Notes when I need anything but I'll be sure to check the Wiki out. And, Poe: Being on Wikia allows you to be found much more easily, as those searching different Wikis will be more likely to discover it.

Er, it's not much, but here's a few attempts. They're not that great. My artistic ability limits itself to the confines of paint and microsoft word/powerpoint. .-.
    Anywho, I wanna help out, but... I have a habit of taking forever to finish something, and that isn't very useful. o.o;;

    Version Two: (Teal)

Not bad. Personally, I think the text should be large and clear, and the logo should reflect it being a starter kit rather than just being Pokémon-related.

If someone could give the RPG Maker XP icon a Pokémon makeover (I'm not saying Pokémakeover), that might be cool. I'm liking the inclusion of Wikipedia's logo - perhaps some clever person could replace the letters with Unown? Just some ideas.

I don't know how/when we'll be deciding on which logo is to be used, though.

Only a few people have actually posted articles on the wiki, Maruno Mr chewy and myself seen peeky on thee but looks like he edited a few things we need to add articles...
Most people probably don't know enough (or think they don't know enough) to contribute meaningfully. Having to create a new article rather than tweak an existing one is also quite daunting (I know it is for me).

Having said that, there's nothing stopping anyone from asking for particular information/guides to be included, and suggesting certain facets that should be given a priority. It's much more difficult for one person (namely, me) to figure out every aspect of Essentials that needs to be recorded than it is for a whole group of people who use it to do so. A little help, please?

Who wants part of the wiki to be devoted to fangames? It'd be a much better place to put up your game's information, because there's so much more space and customisation than a forum thread. You can of course have a forum thread as well, but for things like walkthroughs and evolution guides, the wiki would be the place to store it.

I'll support this only for completed games, like raptor... We dont need half completed never gonna be finished fan games added. Once a game is completed you can display its info on the wiki

Or you can have a single page for unfinished games. Each can gets it own section. One page for Drawing Board games and another for unfinished Showcase games

But, people are typically more obsessed with themselves rather than every one else. I'm not against having articles for fan games, but I think as for now, you should focus solely on the needed articles. Otherwise, you may have an extremely large amount of fan games being added by the dozen by people and maybe one or two completed games, and then maybe 10 - 15 complete articles based around essentials... you know, the main focus. o.o

I absolutely love this. If I had anything to write and article about I would do it because frankly, as much as everyone hates reading noob questions we hate having to ask them

Huff...huff, just about finished the Pokémon section (Encounters and stuff). Just need someone to add articles for Fishing Encounters, Breeding and Walking with Pokémon. huff...enough contributing for today *faints from exhaustion* xD

Is it me or is the articles on the wiki not newbie helpful? When I made my original egg article I made it so a Newbie(New User) could understand it, now it seems shortned to be neater and I still understand it but a newbie might not. Maybe its me be but the wiki is not newbie friendly...
