What is WEP? I am trying to connect to the internet using a "used" DSi and I have never used a DSi before. ( I have only owned a DS and all generations before of Nintendo handhelds)

Also I will be buying a 2DS soon and buying either/both Pokemon X/Y and I wonder will I be able to use a DSi --> 2DS to do simple trading with myself?

WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy, and it's just one of the encryption methods for wireless internet (Wi-Fi). It's also the weakest kind of security any router could have as well, with WPA and WPA2 being far stronger security methods.

Unfortunately though, many DS games do not support WPA/WPA2 and only support WEP-encrypted routers. However, the 3DS/3DS XL/2DS support WPA/WPA2 encryption.

If you want to know more about the different wifi encryption methods, here's an article to look at: https://www.howtogeek.com/167783/ht...-wpa2-wireless-encryption-and-why-it-matters/

Am I forced to put in a WEP key or may I leave it 'none'?

I keep getting this error message.

Unable to connect to the access point. Check that the correct security key has been entered. Then just says go to so so site for support and the error code 051100-1

I tried going there once but nothing specific to my problem.

I suppose I need a WEP key and how do I get/find one?

If found on my router/modem(combined into one) then I dont know which line it is.

I'm not good at this kind of stuff =/

I actually have comcast for my service

I looked at bottom, is it WPS PIN?
No, that's not it. In fact, please avoid WPS like the plague, because there have been flaws discovered with WPS in that it could allow others to access your network without the need of a password when enabled.

What make/model router do you have?

Yes, you can trade using them, however only for gen IV and V games because the DSi will not play XY or other 3DS games. You would need 2 3DS systems (or 2DS) to trade between gen VI games. You can use a 2DS and DSi to trade between two 5th gen games though, or two 4th gen games.
