Is Nidoking a good pokemon to have in Red/Blue/Yellow?

Yes and no. Nidoking has average stats all around and can learn some great tm moves (earthquake, thunderbolt, and ice beam). But he is ground/poison so he has a bunch of common weaknesses, like psychic, water, ground, and ice.

I would say no....I used him in yellow but I had to take him out because he would keep fainting and would learn any good moves on his own

    Maybe,he's good...(Heh heh maybe...)

omg! why do you question this i mean gow is he bad! (besides weakness to water) he has over average stats and is 3rd best grass pokemon 4th is debatable. but still he is like super cool and is buff poison too! in my opinoion is cooler than charizard and in tcg has a better card boo-yah!

Ransit: Nidoking is not a grass pokemon(Ground/Poison).

I'd say he's good but more bad. Good movepool, all around stats, but he just has too many common weaknesses.

    well...

poison is basically a grass sub-class lol. yah But I have alot of grass pokemon and his attacks fit into the fray, and hes powerful so there you go, and in the TCG he is grass and he should be in the games as grass also....hell he has toxic and can use grass moves more so than ground sort of lol, oh and you can get calcium I think and boost his spec def alot so you wont have to wory as much. his attack and defense rock so you dont need to worry about other stats.

In TCG its grass because there isn't any "posion type of card".I've never used it though:)

    ok!

Toxic is a Poison type move, not Grass...What are you getting at? Almost all pokemon can use Toxic.
i know toxic is used by fossil muk n stuff but you know how he has more poison/grass attacks than fighting so i put it in my team cuz it fits in. and yah i said im moreso poison than grass its just my fav , (and in tcg it is grass look at card color) its just my fav pokemon and my team is mostly grass ...lol

Okay, but with a team with mostly Grass it would be easy to lose. Unless you had a stratagy which you probably do, or you just like Grass pokemon. Anyway this is getting a bit off-topic. Back to Nidoking; Good or the opposite of good, bad?

I think he's alright in retrospect, but with silver, gold and crystal, as well as fire red and leaf green, he's been outshone by quite a few.

I still love Quagsire. *heart* He's the bestest.

How many new Pokemon were added in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald? I refuse to play them because I think it's getting ridiculous with how many Pokemon they're adding.

I don't personally like to use Nidoking. I don't really use Poison-types too much. They have too many weaknesses. And with Zubat/Golbat, where you think you'd fooled the ground weakness, you get Electric and Ice weaknesses. Plus, Poison moves are only super effective against pure grass Pokemon.
Summary: No. I like to keep my team with as little weaknesses as possible, and Nidoking on it wouldn't help.

Actually, if you use a Nidoking, you're more likely not to use Poison moves, other than Toxic, which is a bad idea anyway for Nidoking. Since Nidoking has a great movepool, people who use it tend to pick Thunderbolt and moves like that.

Hmmm, I used Nidoking The first time I played red. I breased through all the gyms and trainers, but as soon As I got to the Pokemon leauge, it became hard for him to win. Nidoking is a strong pokemon, but make sure you have a well balenced team if you want to use him.

I use Nidoking, not much~ He faints when a Pokemon uses an ice attack, he does have some pretty good moves, etc. Earthquake and other ground attacks you can make him learn ^_^

    Certainly is. Mine knew Earthquake, tch, an' it pwned all there is ta pwn. ^^;;

All those idiots [no offence] up there saying Nidoking is not a good pok?mon to use, is weak to Ice and has too many weaknesses... Try this moveset out:

    Nidoking @ Salac Berry.
    Nature: Adament.
    -Mega horn.
Covers psychic weakness and get's those annoying Grass/ Poison pok?mon. Now you're saying, bug is weal against poison! Well then Bug being a phsyical move does a hell lot of a damamge even if it isn't that effective.
    -Earthquake.
A must. Steel, Poison types without levitate and Electric types are weak to it.
    -Body Slam
Why not take advantage of its attack?
    -Shadow Ball.
Again for Pstchic but now also for ghost types.

Maybe Rock Slide over Body Slam would've been better...

Anyway as you can see Nido rules.

I like Nidoking's ability to learn a decent variety of moves. Mine has Surf, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, and Thunderpunch. (As soon as I get more TMs I'll give it more advanced moves like Fire Blast and Thunder. *evil laugh*)

Mine on Crystal is Shining, which gave it an insanely high Attack. I trade it to Yellow every once in awhile to train it at the Elite 4. So yes, I consider Nidoking a fairly decent Pokemon.

Nidoking would be my main Physical Sweeper, with Earth, Sludge Bomb, and probably Rock Slide and Brick Break maybe, on one of teams, been a favourite of mine since the early days. It learns a wide variety of moves, so I think its up there as a good Pokemon.
