National Pokedex Explanation

    Hey!

I am hoping someone can explain how the national Pokedex works. I have just beaten my first game, X, and I got the Pokedex so I don't need help with that but I just don't understand how it works. Like do all the Pokemon from every previous generation randomly show up in the wild now? Are there specific locations they spawn in if I'm looking for a particular Pokemon? If so, how do I know where these locations are?

    Thanks for your help guys!!

Not all Pokemon will appear in the wild after getting the National Dex, unfortunately. The National Dex is simply a Pokedex that has been updated consecutively through each Generation; it is the Complete Pokedex of every Pokemon in chronological order of release, as opposed to the Regional Dex, which is optimized for that particular Region.

Some sites you may find useful are:
    https://www.serebii.net/xy/exclusives.shtml#y
This page tells you what Pokemon you need a person to trade with to obtain, as they are only obtainable in the wild in the game Pokemon Y.

    https://www.serebii.net/xy/unobtainable.shtml
This page tells you what Pokemon are unobtainable in both X and Y. For these ones, you will need to trade with a copy of Omega Ruby and/or Alpha Sapphire, or an older copy of the games and Pokebank.

Anything not on either of these lists should be available in Pokemon X in one way or another.
If you want to complete the dex, but don't have anyone local to trade with, then the Trade Corner, located at https://www.pokecommunity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=161, may be able to help.

    Hope this helps!

It sure does!! Thanks for the great info. So as far as I am understanding, the national dex contains all Pokemon ever across all generations, but you have to trade and such (and probably get special event Pokemon) in order to actually find all the Pokemon?

So , in older games when you get the national dex will it not include Pokemon for generations that were created after that game's release? Or are the games updated somehow to include them all?

Sorry I'm just trying to wrap my head around it all. My brain has to over analyze everything lol

Certain games have post game areas that have previous generation spawns and such, but for the most part you will have to trade to get every single Pokemon. Good luck completing the dex pal :)

    Don't worry, I'm the same way :p

Completely correct in the first paragraph. As to your second paragraph, no, unfortunately there is no backward compatibility. You are able to transfer Pokemon forwards, in Generations, say a Braviary from Black or White (Generation V (5)) to X or Y (Generation VI (6)), but you wouldn't be able to trade a Fennekin backwards from X/Y (Gen VI) to Black/White (Gen V), as there is no data for it. You cannot even trade an Oshawott backwards, should you get one, in order to prevent any glitches.

That makes sense, I didn't think the older games would have access to the future generations. I think I'm understanding it all for now. Thanks for your help!
