I am trying to edit pokemon sprites using NSE, I put in my palette and my sprite, but the software is setting the background colour as the outline, I already indexed my sprite in IrFranView, and in that program it says that the background colour is green, but nse is making the background colour the black outline for my pokemon. How do I fix this?

You simply have to ensure the colour you want for your background is the first colour in the image's palette (the one in the top left corner). If you're only editing your image in IrfranView, make sure to save your image as a separate file; it can be a bit annoying like that sometimes.

i'm try to import a custom sprite i made into a rom hack, which i was successful in doing the only problem is the sprite picture looks like is being see through a negative vision filter, does anyone know how to fix this

Yeah if only. I thought These programs take the top left corner color (or a corner) and set it as the bg's transparency. But clearly that's not the case. I've tried multiple times with different variations (all indexed with 16 colors in irfan) and it still pulls the transparent black color as my outline. I even put red squares in each corner of the image to test it and nope, still pulls the black outline as the transparent color. This program sure makes editing a real pain. If anyone can tell me what I need to do that would be helpful.

Well I actually figured it out. Kind of odd. But i'm using gimp and it builds a palette with the image. The first color in the palette entry being the darkest color in the image (which is my outline) and the last being the lightest color. That palette is transferred over into nse in the exact order they were created in gimp (As I started indexing in GIMP and skipping irfan entirely). Of course my outline being first on the list, it is registered as the transparency. So i just made the bg color darker and what do ya know, it works.

Anyone else running into future problems like this it may just be the order of your pre built palette colors being transferred over into nse.
