My wii suffered its red ring of death?

So I tried to turn on my Wii. It was red and then green then ziltch it stopped. Unplugged and the same. I heard its the Wii's rrod. So since I'm not under warranty(mine lasted for about 2 years or so and now its been 2 years 6 months. Yes my Wii is that old) is there anything I can do or is it time to buy a new one?

2 years and a half is nothing, dude.
You should really start caring for your stuff.

2 and a half years is the wii's entire lifetime in Europe so while it isn't a lot its one of the first consoles. And I have it under a lot of care but dammit has it kicked the bucket?

I don't think you can do anything if it has contracted the red ring. I know this happens to Xbox 360's too... it happened to my cousin with a few of his. With the 360 you have to get a new one if the red ring happens, and I'm guessing it's the same with Wii?

Well its like the red ring of death. It turns on then off automatically.

When my warranty is already expired and broken due to little brats tinkering it I can't do nothing with Nintendo. So I am asking what to do with it if there is anything I can do.

Wait a bit, save up, and buy one of those sexy black consoles when it's released. You have an excuse to!

Aside from that, I guess there's really not much you can do if you're out of warranty. I'd try calling Nintendo anyway and asking about it. Maybe it can be fixed for a price much lower than that of a new Wii, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Ah now that's what I was thinking about when i went to myself why is this such a good thing for me. Yeah no nothing can be done. You know how under the wii the battery slot is screwed in? Little brats took it and started breaking it. Now nothing can be done.

Set up a repair, Nintendo's # is in the user's manual, on the back of your DS, or on the back of any wii game. Of course it will be cheaper than buying a new one. And if by some chance it isn't, you can always buy a new one. It doesn't hurt to give them a call.

When my Wii died and I called, I got a really nice dude who put my Wii back under warranty so I wouldn't have to pay, hopefully whoever you get on the phone will be just as nice =D

Or like Lightning said, wait for the black one >.>

Red light means a few things. Generally after a power outage or just disconnecting from a power source it'll turn red. (It may also indicate a problem with WiiConnect24, but I doubt that's the problem here)

My guess is the AC Adapter. I had a SuperNES that experienced the same issue (although it after a much longer period of time than 2.5 years). The system would turn on, the light was there, and then it would shut off. I was well out of warranty but still called up Nintendo. They pointed me in the direction of an authorized Nintendo repair centre in the area and I purchased a new AC adapter there.

You may be having the same issue, but with the Wii instead. The system turns on, but due to an issue with the AC Adapter the console reacts in a way similar to being disconnected from power rather than just a simple shut down and enters the red light standby mode as a result.

Also, leave the Wii unplug from the wall for several minutes too and then plug it in. It may reset something.

Problem is the red light standby mode is before I turn it on. I turn it on a pop it shuts off with no light. My dad checked it and told me I blew it and there is nothing that can be done. Oh well come christmas Nintendo better have black wiis.

And your dad is qualified to make this assumption... why, exactly? I mean, he sounds like a smart man, using such technical terms like "blew it", but I'm just curious.

I've heard similar problems, I think you may be able to send it in for repairs. It's not cheap, but it's probably better than another $250.

    You should at least call.

Yeah. That's how red standby works. When power is disrupted the light is red when the system is off (as opposed to the usual yellow standby when you shut it off yourself)

I'd rather wait for ages and get a black wii for 250 euros then go through the pain of appraising it and such. And my dad has been with computers and electronics since 1980 so he knows quite a few stuff and such things.

    Question:

My Wii isn't broken bust I just want to know, what's the difference between the yellow light and red light on the power button when you turn the Wii off?

Yellow is if you have WiiConnect24 which I don't have.

    Green is on.
Yellow is one form of standby. The console was "shutoff" via the power button but still connected to WiiConnect24.
Red is another form of standby. The console was "shutoff" due to a power disruption (power surge, unplugged from the wall, etc.) and was not yet turned back on. Alternatively, the console was shutoff manually and the console is not connected to WiiConnect24.
No light it literally "off". No power whatsoever.
