Move Tutors

The third way to learn moves in a Pokémon game. Move tutors are people that can teach your Pokémon a special move, sometimes for free and sometimes for a price. Although there are a lot of "specialized moves" that tutors can teach, the moves offered have become increasingly useful with each game. For example, there is a move tutor in BW2 that teaches Dark Pulse as an option. And lets not forget the Draco Meteor and ultimate move move tutors.

What do you think of move tutors? And what about those ones that have a price--are they too expensive?

If you play competitively, having something else besides TMs is a good thing. Having to farm BP in a boring facility on the other hand. Tbh., I don't really care too much about them anymore, as I'd rather play on a simulator, because there I can just choose the moves and try them out, as opposed to farm BP, teach the move, let it forget again, if it doesn't work as expected, farm more BP for other moves, let them forget again, farm more BP and reteach the Pokemon that move you originally put on them.

I think Move Tutors are nice (preferably the free ones).. I love the concept of the "elemental Fire/Water/Grass Hyper Beam" move tutors.. Draco Meteor is nice as a move, although I wish a different powerful Dragon-type move was tutored to Dragon-type Pokemon, as I associate Draco Meteor with either Rayquaza or Kyurem (due to meteors being discussed in their respective pieces of lore).

I feel like every tutorable move from Generation 3 onwards should be made available in the most recent releases. For example, even though we had a Softboiled Move Tutor in Generation 3 (Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen and Pokemon Emerald), we haven't had one since then, which could raise issues for certain move combinations and move+Ability combinations.. As a result, we should have a Softboiled tutor for Generation 6 (the same goes for all the other Generation 3-exclusive tutorable moves).. I also dislike how most tutors have been 'saved' for Pokemon game "third versions/remakes/sequels" from Generation 4 on... I could excuse the practice in Generation 3 since that's when the concept of Move-Tutoring was being delved into moreso than in Generations 1 and 2, but Generation 6's tutors had to wait until the existence of Pokemon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire, when clearly they were just present in Pokemon Black 2/White 2.

I also think that more "good moves" should be taught by the tutors. This is subjective, but I don't want to have something sucky like Mega Punch wasting a slot in a Move Tutor's inventory when there are better moves available (Strength, Return - as of Generation 6). Unless they become TMs, things like Dark Pulse seem like Move-Tutor mainstays at this point.

Good point. If Move Tutors are going to be tied to Battle Points, at that rate, the player should be getting Battle Points for practically everything done in game.. Some of the Battle Point costs for higher-level tutorable moves in Pokemon Emerald were ridiculous. I like the idea of "earning your tutored moves", but it discourages trying things out (unless the player is rife with accumulated Battle Points). And the Shards seem even more daunting in terms of collecting them..

Also, I am still miffed that Rayquaza can't learn Sky Attack by Move Tutor yet. I guess Dragon Ascent kind of fixes the issue of Rayquaza lacking a powerful Flying-type "signature" move, though..

Getting BP just to get decent move is rather lousy and ridiculous because soon battle facility become monotonous, I rather just get shards for a move I want or use a simulator than doing battle over and over again.

Shards can be pretty annoying to get too. And you need a lot of them! Walking around caves for 10 blue shards takes time. That's my problem with a lot of the move tutors. They "cost" too much and I don't want to spend the time looking/getting what I need to use them.

I think Move Tutors are great, because they help give even more additional move coverage to various Pokemon which can help improve them competitively as well. As for if I think they are too expensive? Not that much, but I do know the ones that require BP are more annoying than the shards since I hate having to endure battle facilities just to teach something of mine a certain move.

I know shard is less tiresome than BPs also I know the price for decent move isn't cheap.

Move Tutors are awesome, there teached moves help me a lot in games and made my Pokemons competitively tough in Battles. They are Not too expensive if we take a look from the other way after all they teach Powerful moves to your Pokemon isn't it?

I almost never use them haha. I usually don't have enough payment to get moves when I encounter them. Then I always forget to go back when I do. I got my TM's so im good :)

I've only really started experimenting with them in ORAS. I don't think I really need them as I don't battle competively but some are cool to have. The good with using Pokemon Bank a lot is that you can get quite a lot of BP as a reward.

Move Tutors are something that was a really nice addition. They started off in the later Generation III by giving certain TMs from Generation I that status for one usage, then in Platinum they expanded upon it by allowing them for shards instead. In that and B2W2 it is nice being able to make good use of them before you beat the game, since you can give your Pokémon good variety, like the elemental punches.

And while I haven't used Draco Meteor many times before post-game, that's always a good one to have on strong Special attacking Dragon-types. The elemental Hyper Beams are alright on occasion, too, but not all the time.

Move tutors are my very best friends... they're the reason Volcarona can have Giga Drain, Gyarados can have Crunch, and Gardevoir can have Hyper Voice! They're the cornerstone of how my teams generally function, and I looove them. @_@

I will admit, I wasn't crazy about the ones who charged for special colored shards in the Gen V games. It was fine in Gen IV because of the amazing digging feature... but when they took that out? It just felt really obnoxious to get them.

Free Move Tutors are definitely the best! Some of the Moves that can be accessed through the Move Tutors are useless though and I prefer if some of them remained as TM like Giga Drain.

So yeah, I'm actually not much of a fan of these Move Tutors, even though I enjoyed the moves teach.
