6th Gen Move Tutor Egg Moves

So after searching and searching I cannot seem to find a list of the egg moves that are (currently) only obtainable via previous generation move tutor because there aren't very many move tutors in the current generation, but there are still moves that are egg moves for various pokemon that are not obtainable unless you have access to a parent that was taught the move from a previous game or is bred from them. I thought of a simple solution to this problem, why don't we ALL compose the list?

For every poster, pick 1 pokemon (or more if you want) in order on the National Pokedex, then post their name and what egg move they can only obtain by a parent who got taught the move by a move tutor or via breeding. (basically, any egg move listed on Serebii or other sites that have no compatible parents that can learn the move via level up) Hopefully everyone is on board and if everyone does just one pokemon (in National Pokedex order) it shouldn't take that long per person at all! (Chain breeding moves can be listed in this category too because even though they can be learned via chain breeding, they still don't have direct parents that can teach the move so they are also worth noting just in case so people can be informed, as well as some move tutor moves are also chain breeding moves, so let's just list them both)

I don't think chain breeding moves should be listed, since they're still obtainable without transferring from previous generations (or at least there should be some indicator to show that they can be chain bred). I wouldn't want to look at that list and think Squirtle can only get Water Spout from previous generation Pokemon, only to realise I could have just chain bred it all along. Besides, moves that require chain breeding are already indicated on Bulbapedia.

Since you're doing the Kanto Dex, I'll get started on the Johto Dex so we don't accidentally overlap. And this way we only need one post each which we can keep updating.

well I wasn't doing the Kanto Dex, I was HOPING people were going to pick up after Pikachu, lol! but anyway, I did end up completing the Kanto Dex when it looked like no one else was going to join in, but if other people are going to do specific regions rather than just continue where the last poster left off I just want to throw out a little reminder that sometimes the baby/pre evo lines of a pokemon can have different/additional egg moves than it's late forms (so for example, Munchlax learns two moves that a bred snorlax won't be born with. I'm not sure if any of these will apply to move tutor moves, but we should probably be aware) and I agree with you, there should be notes on which moves can be chain bred and which are move tutor (even though some move tutor moves still need to be chain bred to get onto a parent) but anyway, this is what I got from the kanto dex in my personal notes (that's why the symbols are different from yours. sorry!)

Yeah, sorry, I worded that ambiguously. I understood what you meant, but I started the Johto Dex because I knew otherwise we might waste time working on the same Pokemon (and it looks like I was right :P). And we would also have had to make a load of separate posts rather than just editing our original ones.

I just want to throw out a little reminder that sometimes the baby/pre evo lines of a pokemon can have different/additional egg moves than it's late forms (so for example, Munchlax learns two moves that a bred snorlax won't be born with. No worries, I'll edit mine to use your symbols, since my list is much shorter.

EDIT: I've noticed you labelled Iron Tail as a Move Tutor move for Ekans, but it can also be chain bred by Aron->Rhyhorn->Ekans, so maybe you should use both symbols. There might be other instances of this in your list too.

Yeah, but this thread is primarily for those moves that are listed as Egg Moves but in fact have to be taught to the father via a Move Tutor. Those don't appear on that list.

well not exactly, we would want ALL egg moves that can only be learned via Move Tutor, not just moves from gen 5 that require chain breeding (for example, you repeated Zubat and Magmar/magby's move tutor egg move that I had in my list, but missed the chain breeding move such as Curse and Venom Drench which were chain breeding moves) and we're also not doing solely 5th gen moves, if there is an egg move that was taught by a move tutor in Emerald that somehow made it to the current gen without having a compatible parent that learns it, although that doesn't happen too often as there are a few pokemon that had an egg move in Gen 3 and now no longer have it. But anyway, one example of this is Scyther's Defog move from Gen 4, it's apparently a very sought after move (which I got in a wonder trade, just saying, lol!) so basically, if it's an egg move now and the only way to get it is to go back up to 3 generations to get it, it still gets listed. That's the point of compiling this list.

We think there is a slight misunderstanding. We have said that only this particularly list is 5th gen only. Venom Drench and Curse are possible on Zubat via Smeargle-Woobat-Zubat and Smeargle-Farfetch'd-Zubat respectively, so we haven't though it was necessary.

If you prefer it mon-by-mon basis instead, fine, we have an unsorted list of all chain-egg-moves. Just give us enough time to sort it. In order not to get any overlapping data, we will begin with RSE upwards.

On a side not: You really need to tag cross-generation chaining. Defog for example is an egg move for Scyther that requires a parent from an older generation and is not a tutor move but a HM move.

Actually that is something we're not going to get into because going into the extensive detailed history of EVERY mis so much more beyond the scope of what we are putting here. (and you're really over thinking things and making it infinitely more complicated than it needs to be) basically if ti's an egg move that can't be learned by a direct parent it's got to be learned by either chain breeding or from a previous gen, that's all we're listing. IF there's a move someone wants and it's labelled as a chain or move tutor move (and move tutor or HM/TM moves are all in the same category, they are moves needed to be taught directly to the pokemon be it by item or NPC is irrelevant as regardless of how it's taught, it still needs to be taught within a game. The point of this thread is to make things as simple as possible, not to make it more complicated) THEN they can look up the history of that particular move and find out how to get it. If it's not on this list, then they know they can breed with parents in the current game to get the move so therefore they won't need this list at all. (I hope I that's clear)

Thank you so much for completeing the list, I have been at work the last few days so I haven't been able to keep up with this, but thank you very much, I really appreciate it! As to what is going to be done with the list, just hopefully keep it available to anyone interested, particularly up until May 20th so people can try to get the pokemon with those moves in the various games and move them forward to the present gen before online connection between older games is taken away and then there's no way to trade between games unless you own multiple gens.
