    Hey'a!

Looking to grab a booster box. While I know to expect losses, it would be fun to have that dream-card that might make it breakeven. So, here's my question:
What is the most valuable new card? How much is it worth?

    Following requirements:
    • XY or later (i.e. 2014/2015 or later)
    • English card (no jap, german, french, italian, etc)
    • Booster fresh price; mint/near mint condition

    Cheers! :)

EDIT: For the heck of it, lets exclude all charizard cards. Easy enough to find a list of these.

Well you've eliminated the easy ones with your no Charizard rule, lol.

I'd say seek out the Champions Festival cards, but they're not in booster boxes. They are the most expensive non-Charizard cards released after XY's release.

The rainbow rare Mewtwo & Mew Tag Team GX from Unified Minds is the first non-Charizard card that's available in booster packs that I've found when just searching all cards on pkmncards.com and sorting by price - and I'm counting the Reshiram & Charizard Tag Team GX and Charizard and Braixen Tag Team GX cards as Charizard ones, since they are both more valuable than the rainbow rare Mewtwo & Mew right now. pkmncards.com's price search feature uses TCGPlayer.com listings and sorts the order by the lowest price listing available. Mewtwo & Mew's lowest listing price is $89.99.

Next are the alt art shiny Umbreon GX and Espeon GX from Hidden Fates, which has no booster boxes, unfortunately.

Then you have the rainbow rare Blastoise GX from Unbroken Bonds. The alt art Latias & Latios Tag Team GX from Team Up follows, this is the one where they form a heart (170/181). Rainbow rare Sylveon from Guardians Rising is next, followed by rainbow rare Rayquaza from Celestial Storm. Alt art Sylveon GX from Hidden Fates is next. And gold rare Zacian V from the Sword & Shield base set follows. Then 78/73 Mewtwo GX from Shining Legends (which also has no booster boxes). Gold rare Solgaleo GX from Ultra Prism is next. Alt art Leafeon GX from Hidden Fates slots in next. The gold rare Darkness Energy from Burning Shadows follows, then rainbow rare Pikachu & Zekrom GX from Team Up, followed by the gold rare Ultra Necrozma GX from Dragon Majesty (which is another set that has no booster boxes). Shining Mew from Shining Legends slots in here as the last non-Charizard card from a set released since the XY Base Set with a lowest listing price value of $50 or more on TCGPlayer.

So, unfortunately, at this point, it's impossible to break even on most booster packs from a single card, since most of these are secret rares that are at best one per booster box.

Probably my NM Rainbow Sylveon GX. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
