There was a new Easter egg discovered recently in Pokémon GO which has been popularly titled the 'Missingno Egg Glitch'. The glitch causes an odd string of text to appear on your phone screen in a similar fashion to how Missingno appeared in the Generation 1 main series games; strange blocks of disordered random symbols aligned in all directions. If you haven't yet seen it, here is an image of the Easter egg taken from my boyfriend's phone:

    Spoiler:

To perform the Easter egg on an iPhone, simply click on one of your non-incubated eggs to bring up its summary page and then double-tap your 'Home' button to bring up your list of recently used apps. The strange string of text will be visible from this screen on the app's screenshot image.

Have you encountered this Easter egg before? What do you think the purpose of it is? Do you think the text has any significance to it or is a code that needs to be cracked? Do you think this glitch has anything to do with the infamous Missingno? Post your thoughts about this cool little feature!

I didn't see this thread until now but wow that's kinda interesting! I doubt that it was an intentional reference to Missingno, but it's still cool regardless. I might try it out if I ever decide to pick up GO again.

I think it was an intentional reference to Missingno, Niantic themselves said that there are plenty more easter eggs to discover after the players unveiled the Sparky, Rainer and Pyro nicknames that chose the certain evolution of Eevee.

I can definitely see this being a reference to Missingno but it's quite an odd way to do it I think. I like the whole "go to these huge lengths to exploit this part of the game and come up with some weird random block of text" aspect which beckons back easily to Missingno, but the block itself looks a tad too organised and crisp to be him. I'm mostly interested right now as to what the text actually means, if anything. Do you guys think it's some kind of code waiting to be deciphered? Perhaps a riddle to unlock one of the rare legendaries or Ditto? And I'm also curious as to whether it's still in the game - can someone with an iPhone check this? I can't replicate it on Android haha.

Yeah, I suppose it is odd but I'm guessing that they didn't want us to find these easter eggs so easily.

I was thinking that too, Ditto may only be caught if some certain conditions were met or they are still figuring out how to implement the transform move.
