Hey everybody, our ORAS Mega of the Week this time around is Mega Beedrill!

    Mega Beedrill
    [PokeCommunity.com] Mega Beedrill

Beedrill Mega Evolves into Mega Beedrill. The poison it produces from its four limbs all work instantaneously, yet the poison it emits from its tail is slow-acting. It uses the former to prevent its foes from fleeing, and the latter to deal the finishing blow.

Mega Evolution gives its Attack and Speed stats an explosive boost. Adaptability is an Ability that increases the power of moves of the same type as the user from the standard 150% to 200%. Put it together with this Pokémon's powerful Attack stat and aim for massive damage!

Thoughts on Mega Beedrill? Do you like it more or less than its non-mega forme? How do you feel about its design? Before it was announced, had you expected there would be a Mega Beedrill in ORAS? If so, is it anything like what you expected? Have you used it on your in-game team at all?
Do you have any other thoughts to share?

    Extra question:
Do you think Butterfree, Beedrill's counterpart in the original Kanto games, will get a Mega too in the future?

Well as you can see from my current theme, I'm a big fan of Mega Beedrill. I love its design since it looks like it's gonna mess something (or someone) up badly. It's really fast, can hit really hard, and gets some pretty good moves to back it up.

As far as Butterfree, I'd like to see it get a Mega and I think it will since it would make sense as Butterfree's counterpart.

I like Mega Beedrill; it's surprisingly quick and pretty strong with it's ability! I do like the design; kinda looks like a fighter jet with rockets at the ready. 8D

I used it in competitive here and there, it's just the problem is, bug isn't really the 'best' typing because it gets messed up by Stealth Rock, but, it's not the worst! Meg Beedrill has great scouting utility with U-Turn and Knock Off!

I'd like to see Butterfee get a mega too, I just wonder how it's overall design will look and how it will compare to Mega Beedrill. Maybe it can focus on special attack rather than attack, but only time will tell!

I really loved using Mega Beedrill, it was quite an unexpected but a very fast and hard-hitting Mega. As Shawn stated, Bug-types have fallen from grace competitively thanks to Stealth Rock, but the good utility and increased STAB power makes Mega Beedrill very menacing.

As for a Mega Butterfree, hopefully 7th Gen can introduce one.

I like its design. I think it's pretty interesting. I never really used in battles though. Maybe once or twice but that's about it really.

I like Mega Beedrill better than its regular form, mainly because of its drill legs and the fact that it can tuck them in. I also wasn't expecting it to get a Mega Evolution.

I was not expecting Beedrill to get a mega form and I had very low expectations of it when they first announced it but I have come to appreciate it a lot more. It's a pretty cool looking Pokemon and a pretty strong one is well, unfortunately it still has the same bulk as a regular Beedrill.

It would be really cool to see Butterfree get a mega in the future but I'm not too excited for it since Vivillon is my preferred butterfly.

I think Mega Beedrill is definitely a pokemon that people sleep on and gives you a tremendous ability to catch an opponent off guard. The gain in speed alone is nothing to trifle with. As for a mega butterfree, I would LOVE to see this as well :)

145 base speed with 150 base attack. Don't let it's low stat total (only 495) fool you. This thing takes lives. Honestly though I've always liked beedrill even if it was terrible before the mega.

With it's raw power and raw speed along with it's ability makes it very lethal combination.
Just think of using X-Scissors would make it equally/closer to Mega Horn also twice as deadly with Poison Jab becoming very aggressive attacker. You surely don't want a mess with this mega bee since it could just kill you in a blink before you know it and it surely much better than Mega Pinsir since it's take 2x against Stealth Rock so it may bit hurt a bit.

Mega Beedrill is my favorite Mega introduced in ORAS. Many people were not sure it would be any good because even with a 100 base total added to its stats there's not much to work with. However they did 2 very important things to make it work:

-Drained its Special Attack to have more stats to move around
-Only raised Attack and Speed, ignoring all other stats

This, alongside Adaptability, allow it to actually be pretty good. However as much as I like it, it has some serious flaws

-In a Competitive 1 vs 1 setting, it pretty much HAS to use Protect to alleviate the fact that is has poor speed on the turn it mega-evolves. Also means that outside of STAB, it can only have one coverage move, usually either Drill Run or Knock Off.
-Because they had to buff only attack and speed to make it even feasibly good, it has its base form's rather sub-par defenses.
-Related to the one before, Mega Beedrill is susceptible to all forms of Priority and strong Pursuits. Talonflame and Quick Attack/Feint Mega Pinsir in particular make life rough for it, even some neutral hits from priority moves make Mega Beedrill a liability.

Overall I'm glad they gave Beedrill a mega evolution that is competitively viable, And I look forward to seeing what they do with other early-game bugs in the future if possible.

Even those who are faster like Mega Menace and Pinsir they're aerilate hits mega beedrill pretty hard and making it bit rough on the combat.

Me, I love Mega Beedrill! I was really happy to see it get a Mega, and it's definitely not one I would have expected, since I hadn't personally given much thought to Beedrill since Gen 1. But I love that it's made Beedrill a competitively viable (if not downright awesome) Pokémon!

The design is really cool, imo. Looks more powerful, but not overdesigned.

I've used it in competitive battles on Showdown, but not in-game yet, something I plan on changing. First I'll have to obtain the Mega Stone (another trip to Sea Mauville urrrgh haha)

I'd love to see its counterpart, Butterfree, get a Mega form too in a future game. Like what was already mentioned, make it defensive to complement the offensive nature of Mega Beedrill ^^

I really need to get this one, Shiny version obligatory. I like Beedrill and I was really disappointed it started to get pretty weak in later parts of game. This design, this major power up...

I really like Mega Beedrill, although I haven't used it yet. I recently bred a 5 IV Weedle though, and I have EV trained it so I might do a few rounds in Battle Maison with my Beedrill to see how it is. Its design is really cool, I like how they made it more wasp-like, considering how aggressive wasps are irl.

Like aforementioned a few times already, I really hope that this means Butterfree will be getting a mega evolution soon, I hope that it's either very special offensive or very bulky and that it has a change in typing (Bug/Fairy I would die for, but that's very wishful thinking) and that it keeps Compoundeyes - a very bulky Pokémon with Compoundeyes and access to Sleep Powder could shake things up a bit.

    What about Butterfree though?

I think that Mega Beedrill is one of the weaker mega Pokemon, but he can do well in UU sometimes with swarm. The Pokmeon is so freakin fast but also really easy to take out with most Pokemon because his defense is so poor. I just don't see the Pokemon as much of a threat, and don't like him much as a Mega Pokemon tbh. His design is really cool though! Those 5 stingers would make him scary as hell if he was in the real world. He also looks like he's pissed off, and the two big stickers he has kind of looks like 2 swords.

I didn't really use him in Alpha Sapphire, I didn't even bother to get the mega stone for him. If I got the game though, I'd probably try to get him though just cause he'd be a good addition to my team in game.
