[PokeCommunity.com] Meet new Pokemon with QR codes

So it looks like we can use the QR scanner to share Pokemon and find out information about them.

"In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, there is a QR Scanner function that allows you to see information about Pokémon when you scan QR Code patterns. With the QR Scanner, you scan in a QR Code and check the information about the Pokémon that corresponds to that QR Code. There are QR Code patterns in various places all around you, so try scanning them."

What do you think of this new feature? Hopefully this means it will be much easier to fill the Pokedex!

This could put a dent in trading if this new QR scan feature can register Pokemon in the Pokedex. It could be an interesting shape-up to the way we fill our Pokedex though.

I'm a tad confused about this. Are QR codes going to be scannable in-game? Or do they mean we'll be able to scan real life products and get Pokemon info out of them? haha

I imagine this will maybe tie into Pokemon GO somehow, maybe their way of transferring Pokemon we acquire in GO to the main games?

It adds them as Seen, so you would still have to trade or otherwise obtain/capture Pokémon to register them as Caught.

I wonder if they would have specific QR codes for specific Pokémon, much like the QR codes from Pokédex 3D, or if random QR codes we find on random products everywhere would be scanned and then "generated" into a certain random species of Pokémon based on some kind of algorithm. The latter could be pretty cool, scan random QR codes you find around and you never know what you may see.

That is what I'm hoping for! Scanning random products and codes to give us info or whatever on specific Pokemon species. That sounds far more interesting. I don't know if such a thing is possible though? Aren't each QR codes unique?

I am not really interested in this. To me it seems like a waste of time, but then again, I have had the pokedex finished since 5th Gen and I can just transfer everything over Pokemon Bank.

It might be interesting to scan products, but I am going to guess it will only be Nintendo or Pokemon products. Which is going to be kinda odd if it is DS, maybe we can scan them with out phone in Pokemon Go and then transfer the codes to Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Neet of them to use the Camera feature of the 3DS more. OrAs used QR too for bases, so perhaps this is similar to it. It could also be a new way of distributing event mons. QR codes shouldn't be region locked either, as I recall using the European Dream Eater QR codes online to get rare Dream Eaters in Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance.

Aw man this is gold. ^_^

I can't believe they took the QR code injection glitch and made it a feature! I bet we'll probably have Mew under a truck and Missingno showing up at this rate.

I wonder if this will end up being abused like the hack that likely inspired it.
I think it'd be cool if scanning a QR code allowed a Pokemon to be caught in the wild that's not native to Alola. Also, if you scan a code and get a Pokemon that's already available to you (either from a previous scan or it's Alola-native), then it increases the chance of getting them with certain movepools, Hidden Abilities,, and IVs; it could be incorporated into the DexNav (if it returns).

Considering that Missingno can be captured in the 3DS releases of R(G)BY there is a possibility for that thing to show up xD. At least transform into a non-glitch mon associated with it.

This is a really good idea and I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure there's more to it than what they've shown, and I'm already loving what we know so far, so it can only improve from here.

Eh, I don't use QR codes at all so I don't really have an opinion on it.

But whoah, I can't believe they put Dunsparce on the art. Poor guy gets no love. (Maybe a mega??)

According to Serebii, scanned QR Codes will allow you to capture pokemon in the wild that the QR codes are for.

That's a neat feature, to be honest. No more headaches will stupid offers in the GTS just to complete our Rotomdex Pokédex. :3

Here's to hoping. I really love Dunsparce. It's cute and derpy as fudge. :3

It looks like the QR codes will be from pokemon related products. At least that is what I am getting from Serebi's new news.

    This is from Serebii.
On Thursday, a lot of Pokémon Sun & Moon news was released and hidden within it was a piece of information pertaining to the special QR Code Scanner aspect of the game. Back in April, a new arcade game was announced called Pokémon Ga-Olé, which replaces the current Pokémon Tretta, is coming in July 2016. This arcade game has got new discs and on these discs is a special QR code. Previously, we didn't know what the QR code is for, however it is confirmed that these QR Codes are the first set of special Pokémon QR Codes that will be compatible with Pokémon Sun & Moon through the QR Scanner. We'll bring full details on this arcade game when it launches next month and more details on the QR Scanner features, and products featuring the QR Codes, as they come.

It adds them as Seen, so you would still have to trade or otherwise obtain/capture Pokémon to register them as Caught.

I wonder if that means we won't be able to just search for the Pokemon on the GTS without having seen them now. In X & Y you could just type in the name of a Pokemon you hadn't seen and then trade for it. Seems like that would make this QR feature a bit pointless.

There'll probably be some other benefit, maybe it'll be the only way to catch Pokemon with hidden abilities?

I think it would be interesting if the Pokemon didn't appear on a route before scanning the QR code, but afterwards it appeared like any other wild Pokemon. Sort of like you're unlocking it. Although it sounds like it's just a once off thing.

Also I mentioned it in an another thread but I find it really interesting that we'll presumably be able to catch fully evolved starters through this method. Does that mean this feature will only unlock in the post game?
