People always fuss about this but would you consider Marill a Pika clone. Marill and Pikachu have alot in common. Both are mouses. They have the same eye's and nose. Both are in the fairy egg group ( Like all Pika clones). Both obtained a pre evo in the generation after theirs. Pikachu's sprite from RGB has a spot on it's stomach exactly like marill's. I would say yes it is one how about you?

I would say that it is a clone. Despite type differences, they have too many similarities for it to be a coincidence. Besides, does anyone remember Marill's old nickname "Pikablu?"

I would say yes, They're similar plus the Pikablu thing makes me think it's very likely.

Being that I was an Internet veteran at the time of G/S pre-release hype, I clearly remember the "Pikablu" rumors, and thusly still associate Marill with Pikachu to this day.

Whether or not the design similarities were intentional on GameFreak's part is yet to be seen, but I somehow doubt it...just fan speculation and the infamous "You're Raichu went and evolved" line from American R/B games. XD

Yeah, there's no real similarities between Marill and Pikachu; it's just unfortunate that mass fan speculation lead the word 'Pikablu' to become synonymous with both Pokemon.

They're both elemental mice given overdoses of cuteness appeal, so they do follow the same track as it were, but many Pokemon are cute and elemental, and there's not a lone species of mouse in the world. Given the similarities of emerging Pokemon to those in previous generations, the only one not replaced in its habitat being Zubat, Maril isn't a clone any more than most other monsters, more like a Squirtle for the people who picked Cyndaquil.

Ultimately yes but most Pokemon are 'clones' anyway.

Different type, and to be honest I dont think I've ever used a marill properly...

I would say "Who cares...?" Heh. I remember way back when I was about 8 or 9 years old, and Marill was new- everyone called it "Pikablue" or Pikabloo, or something like that. I don't know if it was just an adapted name, or if it was some kind of rumor before Marill was finally released. Does anyone else remember that?! But that was so long ago, hah!

Marill was originally marketed as the "new" Pikachu, but Pikachu remained popular so they gave up on Marill.

That being said, the name "Pikablu" was used in many gaming and card magazines, online, and in official cards. There's a rumor that Nintendo leaked the name Pikablu to official sources to generate hype.
