March Archipelago 2025 (Complete)

@Devalue I've managed to get ALttP and Z1 working without any (known) issues. I have yet to try SM or OoT, but I'm currently having issues connecting the Archipelago server to the M&L Bizhawk player and don't have any idea why.
Hm. Would need to update Bizhawk to try the process directly. Looking at the set-up guide for Superstar Saga.

What did you choose for the script in the Lua Console? Uses something different than Link to the Past. For Superstar Saga: look in your main Archipelago folder. Open the "data" folder, then the "lua" folder. Select "connector_bizhawk_generic".

Does that help? If not, what error are you getting?

but I should have no problems running it?
[PokeCommunity.com] March Archipelago 2025 (Complete)

For the love of Nijigasaki NEVER let me say this about something ever again... The amount of failed attempts I had trying to run Cave Story was incredible and then the cherry on top was an attempt where I believed I'd succeeded, then realized items weren't actually sending and had to start checking that.

That being said though, Cave Story and FFV are running perfectly fine! It felt like hell trying to get there but my tests were successful.

Apparently FFV Career Day was just completely deleted from the spreadsheet of supported games sometime in the past few days? I'd still really like to play it and I assume we have everything set up so I can do so, it just means these are files I'll probably have to just keep for myself forever, and thought it was interesting to mention.

@Setsuna Added a Cave Story YAML. Basically copied your Hexipelago one. (Generated a blank one and started from there, though, due to the updated APWorld.)

Thank you! I didn't realize you had that little thing from way back then. Though I did remember I wanted to change one thing on it, so I've included a new one. It's not a big deal, the only thing was changing the goal from best: 50 to normal: 50, I don't really wanna go through the Sacred Grounds this time.

Saw a bunch of errors flash by for Symphony of the Night. Failed to register most options as valid. Glanced at the spoiler log. Ignored most of your settings. Still generated, at least. When was the last time you downloaded the APWorld? (Looking) ...Updated 1 hour ago. Definitely does not have that one. [Link] to that Github. Will download that now too. Might fix some things.

Edit: Ah. Might not have had the right error_recalc when generating this seed too. Forces you to go through a lot of menus to actually download it. Still had the old one.

I don't fully understand what's going on with Symphony of the Night? I feel like I get new errors every time, and if I'm being honest, it doesn't really feel like it's worth the effort to make it work after months and months of trying. I got the game running and everything, but every check in my game was just the Empty Hand weapon, and nothing was sent to anyone, unfortunately. It was very funny to see the APWorld updated so recently and I do really appreciate you letting me know about it all. I'll probably just have to look for something else to play if I want a third game. I'm heavily considering sending a Pokemon Emerald YAML actually...~

@Explorer of Time Anything else to add about Cheesetracker and its features?

I'm not EoT but first of all the names like "Explorer of Crime" and "Explorer of Speed" made me laugh.
But also I noticed you could open the hints button for each game and write your own notes for each of them, which is a really neat touch and something I see myself using often.

Oh my god it's getting worse. Now there's a dummy archipelago window not closing for me, and even though it seems like Biz linked to M&L properly, the AP side doesn't seem to identify the game file anymore. I'm totally lost... 0_0

Edit: Also I'm sorry you were having trouble Setsu, but the first part of your post made me laugh from how you worded it, so thank you for that. :wynaut-laugh:

Edit again: I did manage to get that dummy window to close at least.

Okay, close all the Archipelago and Bizhawk stuff, then. Try starting from the beginning again?

One note: Do the lua console stuff before connecting to the server. Apparently matters with Bizhawk in general.

Realizes this may not be too helpful. Welcomes others to jump in and suggest something.

I already tried that. Even reinstalling the AP patch from the site and wiping everything save the game itself. It doesn't even register that the game file exists, that's my issue there.

Edit: Oh, one last question. How do I use those ALttP character sprites thing that came with the AP launcher download? Could be fun to not just be Link again lol.

Edit again: I also got OoT to work by an even greater miracle lmao. I honestly thought M&L would be a sure bet to work fine and the other two would have tons of issues, turns out NOPE, opposite of that lol.

I just wanted to mention I was testing this out and got it working, so please put me down for Emerald instead of SotN. Here's the YAML:

Downloaded that at just the right time, then. Read some stuff in the thread about it. Ran into trouble with using the translated version or something. Still allows people to host it on the website, however.

Yes on being able to play it. Might not be able to for too long. Likely updates Archipelago to 0.6 in the next few weeks (maaaaybe). Potentially breaks this.

Grabbed it from the Hexipelago with a search. Remembered you played it before. Stuck in the new Cave Story YAML. (Replaced Symphony of the Night with Emerald too.)

Can help with this.

1. Start in your main Archipelago folder. Go into the "data" folder, then "sprites", then "alttpr".

Shows a whole bunch of sprite files there. Does not know how to view them, honestly. (Probably could look it up.) Remembered ones that sounded good. Points out leafeon.1.zspr, as an example.

2. Go to your Link to the Past YAML. Write in a sprite section, like below. Be sure to follow the same spacing as all the other options.
[PokeCommunity.com] March Archipelago 2025 (Complete)

Note: Did not type 'leafeon.1', just 'leafeon'.

Feel free to only put one sprite in there. Chose a handful and let fate decide.

Offers to do it for you, if you never downloaded Notepad++. Just say whatever sprite(s) you want.

I don't have that as of yet. I do have basic Notepad, though and can read the files. Can they just be copy-pasted en-mass? Or is it something I'd have to add one at a time?
(I'll assume it's not as simple as that lol)
That does sound pretty easy to do now that I know how it works at least.

I did end up finding a way to view them:
http://toolewd.net/alttp/
The site name I only just now noticed lmao, but there's nothing odd about it from my short time messing with it.

Also, I'll handle the sprites thing next time. I'll grab that Notepad++ thing too. Not going to bother with smaller details like that while still trying to get 3 new games off the ground.

Tried standard Notepad. Seems to work fine. Screenshot of the same thing, but in Notepad:

[PokeCommunity.com] March Archipelago 2025 (Complete)

Should be able to copy/paste this.
Code:
  sprite:
    'leafeon': 10
    'lucario': 10
    'lugia': 10
    'lycanroc': 10
    'magus': 10
    'mew': 10
    'psyduck': 10

Typed in the desired sprites manually. One other method: write in "random: 50" (without any quotes) where you would write 'leafeon': 10. Pulls from all the sprites you have. Just tested it. Got the Bombos medallion sprite.

That is extremely good to know. Also cool that it works with regular Notepad as well. Can I delete sprites (or move them to a different folder) in the event I have no interest in them? (for the random option mostly)
Also, my YAML looks different (structurally) from yours, so I'm not sure how it translates to mine, (screenshot included) but here's an updated one (I ended up downloading N++ anyway and using it) with 2 options I'd like to try for testing:

I got M&L working finally, though I still don't know why I have to boot it, and exclusively it, in a completely different way than the rest of the games lmao. Either way, I should hopefully be ready for launch!

I've updated my Hat in Time YAML because I misunderstood one of the options, and also updated a purely cosmetic change in Starcraft 2, to change my army color. I will need to test Hat in Time again before we start the Archipelago proper, but nothing else. When you do, please !release my SC2, Doom, and Sonic Adventure 2 to give me some checks for Hat in Time so I can properly test stuff.

EDIT: Removed YAMLs, needed another update. See post two below this one.

Testing went well. I have a much better idea of what to use my limited hints on. (A number of items I know are required. A handful more make my life way easier to get from check to check, or once I'm in Go mode, but aren't required.)
Though Outer Wilds Archipelago gives me 5 regular hints and 5 location hints (it says something good is there but not what it is) for free for thematic reasons (limited to just a given region of the game for each NPC that gives hints, and each NPC only gives 1 of each type of hint ever), so I might get lucky and hit on my own items if they're in my world. And if not, it at least points me at something decent for someone else.

Even though the mod locks stuff that's normally knowledge-based behind items, a number of the checks can still be bypassed with alternative knowledge or strats (some of these aren't even like uncommon, there's achievements for doing them). For the sake of logical spheres, I'll try to only pick up checks that the in-game tracker says is accessible.

More YAML updates for Doom and Hat in Time, plus the edited Starcraft 2 colors if you didn't have them already.

Continues to accept sign-ups until , for anyone still interested in joining.

Plans to run a second test server on Thursday at roughly the same time as the first.

On deleting sprites: Guesses that will not work in this case. Probably bases it off of what the person generating the seed has.

Different structure: Did you originally get that from the website? Believes those look different than the YAMLs in Players > Templates. Designed the templates to be read and edited by someone. Cannot say for sure if you would want the second sprite on another line for the website YAML style without testing it. Leans towards needing a new line.

Updated.
_______________

In other news: Appears to be getting in just under the line on everything. Deleted the Github for the Crystal APWorld because of the main developer leaving. (May return in some form soon. Depends on what the Archipelago moderators decide. Could have to build from scratch.)

Would you, by any chance, consider turning on manual !collect as an option, whether for this Archipelago or for a future non-competitive Archipelago? Once someone's done with their game (which may not be when they goal if they have checks remaining), it feels like a waste of time to collect items and find out that they're for a game nobody is playing any more.

Since automatic !release is off, this isn't a competitive Archipelago, and I don't plan to release SC2 until I get 100% of checks this time, it won't have any negative impact on my SC2. And it'll save me a lot of time in SC2 in particular since it's one of the most time-consuming Archipelago games.

Floated the idea before. Seemed against it then. Sticks with !collect disabled for this round of Archipelago, at minimum. Feels kind of late to change that now. Signed on under that assumption. Might re-open the discussion at the start of the next non-competitive Archipelago, though, to see if opinions have changed.

Dang it.
Last question on this topic, would it work if I was running single player sessions? Cause I can still set up my sprites list for when I get around to doing single player multiworlds if so.

I did. It just seemed easier to build my run from the site rather than trying to edit everything myself and risk completely messing something up. I don't mind having to specifically pick a sprite if multiples don't work in exchange for getting to do the rest of the construction on the site lol.

What does !collect do again? Is it that thing where I could get to a chest in a game and find it already open? Cause if so, I'll hard pass on it personally.

Ought to work in a game you generate yourself, yes. For the website-style YAML, try just
sprite: 'madeline'

or

sprite: random

first. Will probably tell you to fix your YAML during generation if something is not formatted right.

Correct, at least in some games. Might be able to open the chest, but find nothing in other games. Has not really used it much.
