What can I use to make a backup of my Pokemon Diamond and Pearl save files that I can also use to put those backups on a computer?

For the GBA pokemon games I just used a GBA Action Replay, but I have an Action Replay for my DS and it doesn't have any way to backup save files.

You can't back up Pokemon onto a computer. However, if you have another DS & Pokemon D/P game (or maybe a friend's DS and Pokemon Game) you could transfer them over there. I mean, there is no such way of transferring your pokemon on a computer.

    Yes there is.

R4. There is a program known as Pokesav that allows you to open up your game and make alterations with it, and also to save the pokemon files from your game onto your computer, effectively allowing you to clone them at will, along with many other features. An R4 is the only way you will be able to get your game onto the computer, and even then you cannot use your original game.

There are SEVERAL devices that allow you to make backups of your Diamond and Pearl game. M3 and R4 are the two most popular. There are also a few devices similar to the R4 but with different names. Gameshark also makes a device that will backup your save files to computer.

R4, M3, any flash kart really. Drakorn, try putting some research into the matter before you post.

Just copy and paste your .sav file to back it up, or you could use PokeSav to save an individual profile of a Pokemon or box.

I've been looking for more information on R4 and flash cards, but none of what I've found tell how to use them or if you need anything else other than what is sold with them. They are also very expensive (for me), so they are going to need to do more than just backing up the save file to be worth the price.

I've been trying to find a way to make a back up of my save files in case anything happens to the original cartridges and to trade between my own games by using an emulator if possible. I only have one DS (it's a DS Lite), so I don't have any way to trade between by own games and I don't know anyone who plays. I also don't
have any access to wi-fi and I can't get my Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector to work with the wireless card I use.

If this is possible, what kind of back up device would be the best to use and what emulator allows trading like this?
I want to make a back up of Pearl and put that on a computer.
Then make a back up of Diamond and also put that on the same computer.
I would start up an emulator program twice and put each of the pokemon save file backups into those.
I would then use the emulators to trade between to two games and put the new saves back onto the original cartridges.

(...Shouldn't this be against the rules to talk about? Hmm......)

Flash cards such as the R4 and M3 are essentially advanced emulators: they allow you to place ROMs on a Micro SD card and then play them on your DS, among other things, such as music and videos. As for the cloning aspect people were talking about earlier, that's more of a side-effect: you can trade your Pokemon over to a Pokemon ROM on it and then make a backup copy of the resulting file, essentially cloning the Pokemon. Of course, this method also requires two systems.

As for copying saves from actual games, the Action Replay MAX GBA/DS is able to do that with some older games, but not more recent ones. I am not aware of any other devices with that feature (though I would LOVE to see one prove me wrong here).
