Lyrics That Stand Out.

The title says it all. I'm sure there has been lyric(s) in a song that stand out in your mind. What are they? Please post the lyric(s) for people to see, if you don't mind.

For me, it would be the final verse of The Power of Equality by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The words just have been stuck in my mind since about 10 years old. I've used them many times in situations.

"Little brother do you hear me?
Have a heart oh come get near me.
    Misery is not my friend,
But I'll break before I'll bend.
What did I see in insanity?
    Whatever happened to humanity?
    Whatever happened to humanity?
    Whatever happened to humanity?"

For it would probably have to be lyrics from the song I Can't Decide by the Scissor Sisters (at least for the moment.)

    I can't decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you'll probably go to heaven
Please don't hang your head and cry
    No wonder why
    My heart feels dead inside
It's cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
    We're going for a ride

Oh I could throw you in the lake
Or feed you poisoned birthday cake
I wont deny I'm gonna miss you when you're gone
Oh I could bury you alive
But you might crawl out with a knife
And kill me when I'm sleeping
    That's why

    Favourite lyricist thread?

I had to choose some of my favourite song lyrics for class last week, conveniently. There are so many that I like, but these are the first that came to my head so I consider them my most obvious favourites.

Nick Cave - The Mercy Seat
    Spoiler:

I love the vast majority of Nick Cave's lyrics and I think I'd have to say he is my favourite just for consistency.

Ian Curtis (Joy Division) - Candidate
    Spoiler:

Joy Division are my favourite band, although the lyrics are a bit hit and miss. Enjoy most of them all the same even if they're not all incredible.

Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) - Holland, 1945
    Spoiler:

Oh Jeff I shall never forget you.

    Now!

I can feel the animal inside
    And my resolve is weakening
Pounding on the doors of my mind
    It's nearly overpowering
    I cannot begin to describe
The hunger that I feel again
Run if you intend to survive
For the beast is coming to life
    Taking form in the glimmer
    Of this tainted moonlight
    Death approaches on this night

For the animal's soul is mine
    We will be completed
    Right before your eyes
I have no control this time
    And now we both
    Shall dine in hell tonight

I can hear it calling again
The primal need is filling me
    Changes are about to begin
And now my blood is boiling
I can see the fear in your eyes
But you can't bring yourself to scream
Time to shed the mortal disguise
For the beast is coming to life
    Taking form in the glimmer
    Of this tainted moonlight
    Death approaches on this night

For the animal's soul is mine
    We will be completed
    Right before your eyes
I have no control this time
    And now we both
    Shall dine in hell tonight

We begin the hunt and I
    Feel the power course
    As the creatures take flight
    For the kill is close
    And I will be satisfied
For the smell of fear tonight
    Wakes an ancient lust
    That will not be denied
    You're mine

For the animal's soul is mine
    We will be completed
    Right before your eyes
I have no control this time
    And now we both
    Shall dine in hell tonight

For the animal's soul is mine
    And the world around
    Will never hear your cries
    An unholy crime
    And now we both
    Shall dine in hell tonight

    (Disturbed "The Animal")

UVERworld - 白昼梦 - rough translation

This is not a song to just forget about the painful past
This is a song that confronts sadness
The moon, in the night sky, waxes and wanes
There are no stars in sight
But even in the darkness, this is a song share with you
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Day to Remember - This is the house that doubt built

    Forget everything just for tonight,
we'll sing like everyone when they're alone
'cause ive been waiting for tonight to sing whoa whoa
Let's believe that if we all stand together
we're a force that can shake the whole world
for once i'm doing something right when we sing whoa whoa

    Spoiler:

As far as I know, the lyrics have never been officially posted anywhere, so this is as accurate as I know them. Beach House consistently has amazing lyrics - none of them have direct meanings but once you figure out what they're trying to say you're blown away.

Without doubt my favourite song of all time (only the second song to ever be considered that). The organ and slide guitar are haunting, yet so beautiful, the drum machine suggests a loneliness and Victoria's vocals are amazing, reminiscent of old jazz singers.

    Censored curses inside.

Edge of Sanity - Enter Chaos

Lyrics that stand out to me the most are ones that make me think of this one girl.

A Day To Remember - All I Want
"Let's leave no words unspoken and save regrets for the broken. Will you even look back when you think of me?"

    Rise Against - Savior
"It kills me not to know this but I've all but just forgotten what the color of her eyes were, and her scars or how she got them. As the telling signs of age rain down not a single tear is dropping through the valleys of an aging face that this world has forgotten.
    --
That's when she said I don't hate you boy
I just want to save you while there's still something left to save"

And a lot of metal lyrics stand out to me, mainly the Christian metalcore bands that have really quotable lyrics that are far from preaching.. I'll probably post some later when I'm not feeling lazy.

^The lyrics in that song really stand out to me. While I know the song is about Avenged Sevenfold missing their brother and drummer after his overdose, the lyrics hit really close to home for me because they remind me of a really good friend..
"And the light you left remains but it's so hard to stay, when I have to much to say and you're so far away."
^Those lyrics stand out the most to me in the entire song.

i'd always thought tom waits's "take it with me" was another beautiful song from the master of lyrics, i loved it but i never fully grasped the words until one night i went to see a friend who plays live jazz at a seafood restaurant. he sang that song for me and emphasized this line: "it's got to be more than flesh and blood; all that you've loved is all you own." what else could we take with us at the end of our time? what material objects give us that sensational rush of feeling alive like experiences and emotions?

    Spoiler:

genius, such a beautiful love song

    Truth - Alexander
"Say you're my lover, say you're my homie
Tilt my chin back, slit my throat, take a bath in my blood
    Get to know me."

The Widow - The Mars Volta
"Let me die, cause I'll never, never sleep alone."

Pickup Truck - Kings of Leon
"I hate to be so emotional, I didn't meant to get physical,
But when he pulled in and revved it up, I said 'you call that a pickup truck?'
And in the moonlight I run him down, all kickin', screamin', and rollin' around
A little piece of a bloody tooth, just so you know I was thinkin' of you."

Born This Way - Lady Gaga

"No matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgender life, I'm on the right track, baby I was born to survive."

    Stereo Love - Edward Maya
"I don't wanna be another one paying for the things I never done."

Most of the lyrics to the songs of Stephen Sondheim's musical Company are kinda brilliant. I would quote some, but then I'd end up just writing the whole song-score out. I've been ever-so-slightly obsessed with it for the past week or so, but the lyrics of 'Ladies who Lunch' and 'What Would We Do Without You?' are all sorts of wonderful.

    Yeah yeah yeah yeah...

I'm feeling great and it's easy to be strong
Then all the hearts keep on beating as one

The sky is blue and I'm writing a new song
Saying that I'm free, friendly and young
I have so much and I'm ready to show you
Let's come together, so here is my hand
We're gonna fly watching lakes in their full view
Fields are full of gold, and it's all my land

I love Belarus, got it deep inside
I love Belarus, feel it in my mind
And I wanna see the sun shining from above
You will always be the one, I can't get enough

    In My Life
The Beatles, written by John Lennon
    There are places I'll remember
all my life, though some have changed.
    Some forever, not for better;
some have gone and some remain.

All these places had their moments
with lovers and friends I still can recall.
Some are dead and some are living,
in my life I've loved them all.

But of all these friends and lovers
there is no one compares with you.
And these mem'ries lose their meaning
when I think of love as something new.

Tho' I know I'll never lose affection
for people and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
in my life I love you more.

Tho' I know I'll never lose affection
for people and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
in my life I love you more.

In my life I love you more.

Observing the estate through the gate of the outside looking in
I bet you would think I got it made, better look again
I got a butler, and a maid, and a mansion the belief is that I'm livin out a millionaires fantasy
With phantoms and ferraris in the driveway, but you see it came in exchange of a sane mans sanity
Your vision jaded by the Grammys on the mantlepiece, just switch your camera lens and you would see the agony
His family ecounters overshadows his extravagence, walk in my 9s a while I dare you it will scare you
While it surely seems like a kings life seems glamorous, you're seeing through the eyes of the untrained amateurs
But you can't see beyond the castle walls till it falls in a pile

    -TIs Castle Walls verse one

I think I got the lyrics right, I wrote them from memory, but you get the idea of them.

    Spoiler:

Save Me by Avenged Sevenfold. Really good song, ten minutes of epicness that ends with something melodic and beautiful. And the guitar solo in the song is wild.
