or not, since if memory serves, skincare threads don't do great here lol, but inspired by the derailing of the selfie thread
In a nutshell, I use almost exclusively Korean skincare products now - I've tried a LOT of stuff over the years, but nothing's worked better for me than Korean brands! They're so cost-effective, too (I'm sure there are more expensive ones, but the ones I use are in the drugstore range of prices, I'd say). My favourite brand is COSRX - I've tried their masks, moisturizers, serums, toners, cleansers, pimple patches - nothing has disappointed me so far. Tried some stuff from Innisfree too, since Roni mentioned! Their makeup primer is my favourite.
How about you? Do you care about what you put on your face, or are you more of a 'splash some water on your face and go' kind of person?
awesome thread idea Juno! i myself have slowly been shilled into the Korean products explosion of today hehe it's just not as readily available in my country as one would expect. where do you get info/reviews/recommendations for the stuff you use?
any how, a little story time:
for the longest time i've been the "just rub some random drugstore cleanser on face when bathing" sort of guy. sometimes i'd even just full on use body soap because i was extra lazy that day lmao. i was able to get away with this without much repercussions in my youth, but since 2019 i'd been starting to get bad breakouts here and there, and my skin got much rougher over the course of time. i still didn't care for it as much as i should've though.
it wasn't until my gf dragged me into watching Hyram (some skincare professional youtuber person she got recommended to by a friend) that i started learning all about the essence & importance of taking care of your skin. i realize that i do want to look young for longer, so i dove in. it was there that i realized that you don't actually need a bucket load of stuff to start, and that the bare essentials can be boiled down to just 2-3 products (cleanser, moisturizer, and sun screen right?), so that simplified things and made it less scary (for my wallet especially lol). figured out my skin type (i think i'm combo rn. nose and forehead get oily a bunch but my cheeks and everywhere else tend to be dry), and looked into good beginner options. after building up good habits and routines, my gf hooked me up last Christmas with some good quality products and i couldn't be happier!
my routine as of the moment is still simple; for the morning it's Cerave Hydrating Cleanser (the one with the green cover), followed by Cerave Moisturizing Cream (the one with the blue cover), and then finished up with Innisfree Blueberry Rebalancing Watery Sun Cream. for the evening it's the exact same but sans the sun cream. my skin is slowly but surely returning to its top form!
i totally advocate more men get into doing this stuff. it's legit super relaxing and feels amazing <3
1. Wash self daily with a nice smelling bodywash.
2. Lather myself in moisturizer but still be dry as the desert because of the low humidity and the fact I'm on Accutane.
3. Cry.
I love Korean skincare products!! Sadly the ones I use (Klairs, I'm From) tend to be a little on the expensive side, but I've really gotten used to them. Some of my favorites are the Klairs moist soothing cream, I'm From honey mask, and Klairs mid day blue shield sunscreen. Those tend to be in the $20-30 USD range if shipped to the US... but here in South Africa, where I am for vacation atm, imported prices are insane and I'd pay double for one product. It's crazy.
Been using the DHC cleansing oil too but it does feel like it's been drying my skin out. :x Trying out the Simple hydrating cleansing oil instead once the DHC runs out, which is a drugstore cleansing oil and a lot easier/more affordable to get here.

I used to get everything from YesStyle, but they did away with the free shipping, and my cheap ass couldn't justify shopping there if I had to pay for shipping lmao. It is based in Asia though, don't know if that makes it easier for you to get stuff from in PH or not?
But I went pretty overboard when I did shop there, so I tried a lot of different things (and they give a LOT of samples, to the point I had to put a note asking them to stop giving me samples with my orders because I can't use them all lol) and I know what my favourite products are now, which makes it a lot easier to just seek those out specifically when I run out. They're mostly available on Amazon.ca, so I just buy my COSRX and Innisfree stuff there now.
I've seen Hyram pop up in my feed before! Probably from other skincare stuff I watched, but I never watched him directly. I got a lot of product recommendations from YouTubers Ivan Lam and James Welsh, and occasionally watch Dr Dray too, though she gets VERY technical and doctor-y and I often can't sit through a whole video lol. But very informational!

;; I actually used to be on Accutane too, and god yeah the first few weeks/maybe even months was so bad, I can definitely relate (and tears were also shed). How long are you into treatment?

Oh I forgot about I'm From! I got a lot of cute sheet masks from them too, love themm. And yeah, I can imagine that's a huge downside out there, with the shipping costs. Gotta bring your full collection from the US when you stay with Marcin!

Anyway, here's my routine now, it's a little much I said I have a problem please don't judge
I also have combo skin, so there's a lot of exfoliating stuff to keep my t-zone clear, and then moisture restoring after
Spoiler:
AM
COSRX Low Ph Good Morning Gel Cleanser
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant - the only western product I use now, I think. Pretty expensive but I love it, and one bottle lasts a long time so it evens out for me
Out of the shower:
COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner
and then essence/serums - I have a lot of serums, I don't necessarily use them all every day, just kinda how I'm feeling
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
SOME BY MI Snail Truecica Miracle Repair Serum
Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence
(i like snail)
SKIN&LAB Red Serum
COSRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream for my day moisturizer
Dear Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 for sunscreen
PM
If I wore makeup, remove with Kose Deep Cleansing Oil
Double-cleanse or just cleanse with COSRX Low Ph Good Morning Gel Cleanser again
COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner again
COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid - less often now, I've been told this can be irritating if you aren't used to it, but at one point I had been using it twice a day and I was fine, so ymmv
One or some of the above serums again
SOME BY MI AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle Cream - this isn't really a night cream, I don't think? but I've been using it as one. Previously my favourite night cream was COSRX PHA Moisture Renewal Power Cream but they were out for a while so I wanted to try something else
and then finish with COSRX Nourishing Rice Spa Overnight Mask
I don't use makeup or other products for my skin or face if it isn't cruelty free / vegan. I stopped 5 years now and my skin and face is much healthier now and I barely get breakouts since I used to have bad acne as well. Having not good sleep, a poor diet / eating sweets, lack of water drinking and stress can also cause breakouts of acne. However it only used to be bad for me while I was in school wearing my foundation on my face to hide my acne, eye shadow looks a lot that made my face breakouts horrible even more. After I graduated school and yeats later when I was 28 I just stopped with the whole makeup thing.
I try not to stress that much or at all but hey we're human after all no one is perfect. I also fixed the others things began to eat healthy foods, drink lots of water and try my best to get good sleep even though I suffer from insomnia. I've seen my skin mproved quite a lot since then. Everyone has the right of choice to wear makeup or do anything else for there skin, I just prefer all natural as possible of I can.

aaaa I was on Accutane in the past too. It was an honest nightmare, I had to get blood tests every month and my skin was ridiculously dry. Even my lips would crack and bleed. Still, it helped the acne a lot, and later on I went to the cosmetologist to take care of the acne scars. I soo understand your frustration. My skin is so sensitive and I break out easily, especially right now from wearing masks x_x How many moisturizers have you tried? There are some very thick/strong ones for cases like these!
Oh I forgot about I'm From! I got a lot of cute sheet masks from them too, love themm. And yeah, I can imagine that's a huge downside out there, with the shipping costs. Gotta bring your full collection from the US when you stay with Marcin!
I brought pretty much everything but staying 6 months means I'm pretty much guaranteed to run out of some stuff ;_; I'm also trying to use less products in general since I read it's not the best idea for sensitive/breakout-prone skin like mine to be exposed to a ton of different ingredients right now when we're all wearing masks, since they're all trapped underneath for potentially extended periods. Only using extra products occasionally now, definitely not the level I was at before! Only ones I always use daily are facial wash, cleansing oil, moisturizer, and (mostly mineral/physical) sunscreen.
I miss a few days sometimes due to my memory so my acne actually isn't getting better, I still get breakouts and therefore more keloids.
It's supposed to be a 6 month treatment but idk

Always remember your still beautiful with acne. True a lot that suffer from it think of themselves ugly but it still makes you beautiful regardless bumps on the face or not thats what I always thought when I had my really bad acne days. If someone can love you for acne on your face or skin they aren't worth it. I have an acne treatment but its not a known brand you see on TV.
Skin care for me begins with food in diet. I drink a lot of water, being well-hydrated will result in healthier skin and hair. I also try to avoid a lot of harsh chemicals in my body, both topically in beauty products, as well pesticides and the like in my food. I eat a lot of fresh fruit filled with vitamins and antioxidants like grapes and peaches, olives, oranges and avocadoes, and find my complexion looks brighter.
I like a lot of all natural products like lipglosses made with ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, vitamin e that are moisturizing, naturally astringent, anti inflammatory, anti-oxidant rich, promote collagen, give you sun protection, and all that good stuff. I rarely wear makeup at all though, and when I do wear foundation it is a mineral powder.
Sometimes I by certain oils and body butters like sweet almond oil, and apply it to my body, and it makes my skin smoother and helps it glow, heals and reduces nicks and cuts, bruises, when I do this I add a few drops of a essential oil to the mix like lavender or rose for scent, and all of it is nourishing the skin. I use this and have no need of lotion.
I make my own soaps so I know exactly what goes in them. Cocoa butter bars are really good toners for me. Aloe is wonderful for healing my skin too.
In the summer I pick fresh rose from my garden and make homemade rose water by crushing and boiling the petals, and wash my face in that for firm skin. I like witch hazel too.
There's this amazing Asian sunscreen called Biore UV Aqua Rich - it's SPF50+ (perfect for Australia!) and so much better than other sunscreens I've used. I always get my dad to stockpile on some when he goes on trips to China. Otherwise the best Western sunscreen that I've bought from the store was Neutrogena's Hydro Boost Water Gel Sunscreen - I can't stand super oily sunscreen so these are the ones that've worked best for me. I have been very lucky with not ever getting any major breakouts even with an inconsistent skin care routine. I use cleanser + moisturiser daily and occasionally a face mask (which is still relaxing) but go through periods where I get neglectful of using them. I haven't ever tried a 10 step routine as those 3 products seem to do well enough :D
I have dry and sensitive skin, so anything that goes on my skin makes me break out, which sucks.
As I've entered my 30's my mom brought up the importance of skin care and I was like "uhhhhhhhhh I use Clean and Clear, is that ok?" and she said NO IT'S NOT OKAY IT'LL MAKE YOU HAVE WRINKLES. So I've tried Burt's Bees first, it was alright, helped my skin though! My mom bought me an anti-wrinkle lotion (forgot what brand) and I immediately felt my face burn as soon as I applied it. But I also suffer from hormonal acne, which is UGH. I couldn't find anything to help with that.
So I started with a diet change, and resorted to Neutrogena Hydro Boost. I use the face wash, the body lotion and the all-over body butter and it's sensitive-skin friendly...which is amazing. I don't have that harsh-chemical feeling all over my body.
I don't believe that getting beautiful skin requires a routine skincare routine with tons of products, so I don't use a lot of products on my face...just the opposite.
My routine is simple:
1. I wash my face with micellar water.
2. I apply a hyaluronic acid serum . That's it! 😇
Additionally to that, I exfoliate twice a week using a product that mimics microdermabrasion.
It happens that my skin feels a little dry from time to time. Therefore, I occasionally apply a moisturizer which is the Clinique Dramatically different. In my opinion this is one of the best moisturizer on the market considering both, price point and ingredients. I also use cbd oil and cbd gummies for my skin care. Here are a few of the benefits I have seen on myself. Need more info? Then go to the (Mod edit: Removed link).
