Hey everyone, My name is Luiz Lemos, Im a game designer and a big pokemon fan.
I don't know how many of you had the pleasure of playing pokemon generations, a fan game made by a guy called Jordan Scott back in 2011. Well, I did, and since then I got absolutely in love with the real time combat idea. I mean, we do have pokken and pokemon unite nowadays and both are great games that I played a ton of, but imho they lack that monster taming + adventure aspect that makes games from the main series so unique( plus I wouldn't call them real time combat, but more like fighting and/or MOBA games).
So in 2019 I started to develop my own monster taming game , called Kubberz.

Our unique features:
-Real-time combat
-Being able to control your own creatures, giving you the ability to scout, fly, reach/access different places, etc.
-Open world
-Up to 4v4 battle gameplay
Progress report:
2019-2020
We started developing kubberz in late 2019.
We started developing the game on the unity engine, since it was where pokegen was developed, and It took us about a year to realize that it would be much easier to change from Unity to UE4. That was a big step back on development, but it was necessary in order to develop a game of our dreams.
2021:
After that, in 2021 we released a pre-alpha version of the game so people could test it and give us feedback.
The pre-alpha was 100% focused on the combat aspect of the game, since combat is the hearth of gameplay.
The way the pre-alpha worked was:
People would be able to create their own "rooms" or join someone else's in a 1v1, 2v2 or 4v4 match. We had 8 different kubberz that they could choose from, and each of them had their own set of skills.
The Feedback was pretty good for the most part and we had about 8k people downloading our game, but there were a lot of mistakes made. One of them was not having AI bots, as well as no server. The host would be the "server" of each match, and if the host left or lost connection, the match would be over, which didn't help gameplay.
There were some structural problems as well. We had a functional game, with most things working just fine, but in order to make a game with a larger scope (with hundreds of different creatures and thousands of attacks), we would have to reprogram a lot of the combat, so we soft-reseted the project once again. It wasn't like the first time, cause a lot of the things we developed were reused, but we did have to start some things from scratch. Although this time, we made things way more modular and easy to work with.
2022:
This was the year with most progress! Everything works just like we intended to! We are very confident that we are in the final "adjustments " for the combat, and the pace of the game is exactly the one we were expecting. Now we are finally ready to work hard on the open world adventure that we were so hyped about!
We are releasing a new Alpha build on January 29th 2023 (tomorrow =D) and we are excited to share our new combat with the world! The game is 100% free2play with no pay2win mechanics, so anyone can test and leave feedback! In fact, that's one of the main reasons why Im posting here! I feel like there is no better community then this one to have feedback on!

The main inspirations for the game are both Pokemon generations (the fan game) and the pokemon anime in general, as well as a bit of Zelda BotW, and some Dark Souls/Elden Ring game design philosophy as well.
In Kubberz you can explore a vast universe filled with mysteries and adventures. Capture, train and collect many different species of kubberz as well as trade and battle with/against friends and other people from all over the world.

Well, we are still working on some details, but as a general sum up, you are a 18 yo character who just started your journey as a Kubberz tamer. When you turn 18 yo you can have your own z-device, a gauntlet that enables you to capture your own kubberz, as well as register to the world championship. In orded to get to the finals of the championship, you need to get the approval of the best kubberz tamers in the world. This championship has a big role in society, and being a winner can mean a lot to your people, both culturally and monetarily (your home town gets investments, incentives, etc).
Kubberz are not the only creatures in this world, we also have colossus, giant ancestors to kubberz that guard some deep mysteries away from human knowledge.
