I've been wanting to try all the different types of bread from Japan but I don't know what they are. I only know a few like melon bread and curry bread but there's so much more than this. I've checked Google and I can't find a complete list anywhere. Can someone provide me a complete list of all Japanese breads?

I tried to google it myself (not because I didn't believe you, but I thought I might have gotten lucky). The thing is that Japan isn't as open to things as we are. They often tend to be more secretive about things. I myself have tried researching things related to the country and it's culture for a story I wanted to write, but I couldn't find much to go on. Unless someone here is strictly into Japanese culture and has actually lived there at some point, I don't think it's possible to find anymore than what you have already. :c

I do understand your frustrations about this though, trust me. However, I did find something else that might be of interest... that is if you haven't already discovered it and just forget to mention it. XD This is all I was able to find. Sorry!

What a peculiar thread that just happens to be right up my alley.

So you've heard of melon bread and curry bread? How about cream filled?

    Spoiler:

I like lemon bread, a kind variant on melon bread. It can have the texture of melon bread or have the kind of glazed outside and creamy of cream filled bread. Only lemon flavored.

    Spoiler:

There's also anpan, bread (often a kind of roll) filled with red bean or red bean paste. More savory than sweet.

    Spoiler:

There's a kind of brioche that's filled with chocolate or some other filling called a 'korone'. It's sweet and often flaky.

    Spoiler:

There's something called 'mushipan' which is this light texture bread. It can be colored and flavored and often has red beans as a topping/ingredient like this:

    Spoiler:

There's kurumi bread (walnut) which is of course nuttier.

    Spoiler:

There are also breads that come with pizza-like toppings, or with sausage or other meats, but I'm a vegetarian so I don't know much about those.

Are you looking for strictly Japanese bread like what Esper posted, or are you just looking for the breads that they sell at Japanese convenience stores, including the Japanese-style apple danishes, cheese breads, etc?

In any case, since Esper covered the Japanese breads, here are some staple convenience store breads at almost all Japanese convenience stores (except Lawsons because Lawsons has to be the special butterfly and they end up with a crappy bread selection IMO. LOL)

    Spoiler:

Corn Filled Mayonnaise Bread (Super good, highly recommend) - You can find this in a bunch of other asian countries too.

    Spoiler:

Tuna Mayonnaise Bread - Same as above, but with tuna-- also amazing.

    Spoiler:

Okonomiyaki Bread - Admittedly never tried this since it's a bit heavy for breakfast, but it looks good?

    Spoiler:

Croquette Bread - 11/10 really amazing despite the fact that it's nothing but carbs

    Spoiler:

Yakisoba Bread - Literally just yakisoba in a hot dog bun.

    Spoiler:

Last I checked I only saw this Strawberry Twist being sold at Lawsons-- 0/10 I think it's gross and tastes like uncooked bread dough with strawberry jam in it. LOL

Anyway, there's a ton more but if you don't mind the Japanese, here's a link to a blog that tries a ton of Japanese convenience store breads with pics and reviews:

    https://konbinipan.com/

And here's another website that lists all the kinds of bread by convenience stores (7/11, Lawsons, Family Mart, Circle K, are the ones featured here. Where is the Sunkus love...)

    https://コンビニパン.com/

I don't know if Japan's all that secretive about their stuff so much as it's just not very accessible unless you're searching in Japanese because nobody here speaks English worth a damn. But if you need any more information about anything, I can elaborate or help you figure out search queries. /thumbsup

    I am so hungry now.

The chocolate one isn't so bad. Like, 4/10. Convenience store breads are good, but bakery-made pastries are usually better.

I thought Circle K and Sunkus were the same company?

The chocolate breads in Japan always taste better than the strawberry ones!! /weeps bitter tears

But yeah I agree, bakery-made pastries and breads are always better. I'm unlucky (or lucky?) that there aren't any bakeries that are near me so... gotta live that conbini life....

And oh are they?! Maybe-- there's only one Sunkus near me and literally no Circle K's so I haven't ever really shopped at either in like... my entire life. LOL

I would take conbini bread over most anything I can get here. There's a Daiso (which by itself is shocking that it exists) like 2-hours away from me and they have a very small selection of conbini type bread that'd be just mediocre expect for the fact that it's the best I can get. They have a green tea flavor (because Japan = green tea), brown sugar, and cream and that's it.
