Is this basically the X and Y remake?

Hi everyone. My question is just that really. I'll most likely be getting this game. To be honest the gym leader theme from X and Y was my favorite so I really hope it comes back in this version.

Not really, Nintendo has stated that the game will take place entirely within Lumiose City, and if the game is similar to its predecessor Legends Arceus then it'll likely be its own unique thing with only loose ties to the rest of Kalos and XY.

Probably a little, in the meaning that it probably covers the "re-imagined" things of an older generation put in a new one. Since they seem to be going on a different route with remakes compared to the past, I think that when looking at new remakes the actual ones will be pretty similar to the older games, while the Legends series brings the innovative part. I would say that it kinda is like the Delta Episode was for ORAS. But can it be considered a remake? Not at all indeed. Especially considering that it's only Lumiose city and not the whole Kalos, as it was mentioned.

I mean, we are kind of going back to Kalos, but we're solely focused on Lumiose City, which is great because we never really got to dive deep into the region other than what was within X and Y. It's great that we will learn more about Lumiose City.

Going forward, I don't think we'll have conventional remakes anymore. So yes, this is the "remake" for Kalos in the sense that it's our opportunity to revisit Kalos.

This seems like it will be the proper experience to Kalos that we were robbed of in X and Y.
Maybe remake but not really? The word 'remaster' comes to mind

I'm thinking this isn't a remake, but a supplemental continuation filling in the blank spots X and Y left behind.
X and Y felt holistically incomplete, so this could work to "patch" what was missing lorewise.
