Is the nintendo 2ds worth it?

I want to get a 2ds so I can finally get pokemon y. Is the Nintendo 2ds worth it?
The 2DS is cheaper than the 3DSs, but it lacks the 3D effect and doesn't fold. There's not really any differences besides that. So it depends on if you care more about the cost or the 3D effect/ability to fold.

Also I'm moving this down to Video Games

For playing through certain games, including Y version, I would say it is.

Pokémon X and Y don't utilize the 3D functionality much of 3DS systems, and if this feature were to be taken away (which is what we get in 2DS--a 3DS console without this particular aspect), I don't believe there would be much difference, if at all.

As for me, I did wind up getting myself a set of 3DS, but that's because I wound up rushing myself and did not wait for future spin-off of this handheld (New 3DS, 2DS, 3DS XL, and so forth), causing me to be sort of stuck with the original. If it weren't for that, things would have been different on my end.

Looking at it as a long-term investment, I would say that it is definitely not worth getting a 2DS; you'd be better off getting a New 3DS/New 3DS XL. The sole advantage of the 2DS is that it's the cheapest model you can get. You can always turn the 3D effect off if you don't care for it, so I would say it is better to have it than to not have it.

You don't NEED a New 3DS to play Pokemon Y, but is that the only game you are going to want to play? Getting a New 3DS would be your best bet: that way you're guaranteed to be able to play any and all 3DS games that catch your eye in the future, as it's almost a certainty that in the future there will be a Pokemon game that will only be compatible with the New Nintendo 3DS. The enhanced processing power, more stable 3D, and additional analogue nub make it worth the purchase if you don't already have a 3DS of any kind. It'll cost a little more than a 2DS, but it's worth it I think.

...that, plus the 2DS has an ugly design. xD

What's the size of the 3DS also? My take is that it might be similar size to an iPad Mini. Anyways, just the fact that it can't fold is why if say no to buying the 2DS instead of a 3DS. Handheld gaming is most known for being easy to play on the go, which you might have issues with the unfoldable 2DS.

Unless you really are on a shoestring budget I'd recommended either of the New 3DS's for a long term investment even if you don't want the 3d effect (you can turn it off permanently in the settings). If you only foresee yourself playing pokemon, just get a 2ds pokémon bundle.

I bought a 2DS because 1) I was on a budget and 2) I knew I wouldn't play it often. I am very happy with the decision I made. I never missed the 3D aspect, it was just like playing my old Gameboy Advance but with better graphics and a touch screen at the bottom. The battery life was fine, I'm used to charging devices overnight anyway.

Honestly the only drawback is it looks kinda dumb, but if you get past that there's no issue. It'll fit nicely into a coat pocket or your backpack for sure. If all you're looking is for a device to play Pokemon Y on, definitely get a 2DS. I bought my 2DS to play Alpha Sapphire and that's exactly what I used it for. Sure, I would've enjoyed the huge screen the 3DS XL gave me at first, but with time I would've totally regretted shelling out the extra cash.

Happy shopping!

Having seen both, it's not really all that close to the iPad Mini. It's shorter than an unfolded 3DS, and only about 1/8th of an inch wider. It's nowhere near as big as people make it out to be.The shoulder buttons just make it feel that big, and you can get grip cases that are designed to make it so the triggers are controlled by triggers on the case that sit halfway down the back of the system.

The 2DS is definitely worth it if you don't want to shell out an extra $40 for a regular 3DS or an extra $70 for a 3DS XL.

Playing pokemon games is doesn't matter whenever you want to play on 2DS or 3DS. Both can be playable and like other said about pokemon doesn't utilize 3D effect very well.

I think 2DS is worth it if your low on budget and don't care for 3D effect or pocket size and it's plastic design. But it's all up to you. For me, I brought a 3DS and I really like sticking to original size for more portability and pocket size than buying XL or N3DS/XL
