Wikipedia says a manga is a Japanese comic, but then in the English translations of manga volumes (specifically Shonen Jump volumes like Naruto and Dragon Ball) the table of contents say graphic novel followed by the chapters in the book.

Aren't comic books just plain issues with numerous reboots? Wouldn't graphic novel make more sense cause manga has chapters like a novel but with pictures? thus graphic novel?

What's the parallel between manga and comic book? Is a chapter equivalent to an issue? do comic book issues become volumes much like manga chapters become volumes?

Thing is, a graphic novel is a type of comic book. In the west, traditional comic books are the single chapter releases, yet graphic novels are also considered comic books, be they western or eastern in origin. If you go to your local bookstore, you'll see that all the superhero comics they sell are lumped in under the "graphic novel" section, since most of the ones they sell are in graphic novel form anyway.

So based on your reply, Americans getting a brand new comic book issue would be like Japanese people getting a new chapter in a shonen magazine?

At its most basic, yeah, that's a fair comparison. Subscriptions to comic books in America are pretty rare these days, though. And American comic books release less frequently.

Though thinking on it, most American comic books have page counts closer to being equivalent to 3 chapters an issue.

Well Manga is japanese Comics. And some of them are translated to English and many languages. Anime is japanese Animated films and series. Like - Dragonball z, Shingeki no kyojiin, Death note. Most of Anime are adobted by Manga. Most Anime are based on manga. Manga are comics.

Anime are "adobted" by manga? What the heck is that?
