Is it time the world finally gave Justin Bieber a chance? I mean he has pulled a few boners over the years (getting arrested on false charges, peeing in a bucket, egging his neighbors house and many minor typical teenage mistakes), but there have been people who have done worse Donald Trump and Jared Fogle for example. And Justin has finally bettered himself and seen the error of his ways.

His music has taken a change of direction for those of you who don't know, he's not teenybopper, bubblegum crap anymore and hasn't been since a few songs on his last album Believe. He's more EDM, R&B and regular pop these days, however, if you're a 12-year-old who wants to feel "cool" by hating on Justin, then I guess this is where you would stop reading, lol.

One Direction have also made the huge step from teenybopper stuff. Then again, no-one will ever know that, as they made the mistake of saying "we made this album for the fans" and you know what everyone thinks 1D fans are "little 12-year-old girls with no taste in music!". That's a wrong idea of Directioners, as most of them are 15-23 these days, same with Beliebers.

So, is it time we finally gave 1D and JB a chance?

You know, this is gonna sound like the most unusual thing ever, but I actually like What Do You Mean and especially Where Are U Now. The concept of the former isn't terribly generic at all (appearing to mean one thing but arguing for the other), and the latter just sounds really cool for EDM.

And as for One Direction, with Zayn gone, they've started to change their style, but some people think this might be their last album. And if that does end up being the case, I don't think they picked the worst note to go out on, because I liked Drag Me Down, as well as Perfect. And they don't feel as overexposed as they did in 2012, at the very least.

Like Pendra said, What Do You Mean might be one of the few Justin Bieber songs you could easily write off as nothing like what you'd usually expect from him, plus that aforementioned collab with Jack U (the collaborative project of Diplo and Skrillex) is total dancefloor-friendly material so he is getting a bit different and learning from his wrongdoing.

One Direction though... the group without Zayn feels weird to me, and if Made In The A.M. does turn out to be their final album together, I'd prefer them to go out and do what they want to do, like how Zayn wanted to pursue other projects. It seems like the perfect time for them to bow out, because we know boy bands are a always going to be a fad who will die out at some point.

some of Biebs's new stuff is pretty good. 1D's older stuff was never really that bad to me either -- like, I didn't like it, per se, but it wasn't nearly the Villain / Enemy most people seemed to blow it up as. we should be giving Carly Rae Jepsen more time in the sun, however -- 'Call Me Maybe' is inexplicable, first off, but some of her new stuff is among the best pop music I've ever heard.

Yeah some of the stuff in Emotion is pretty hot I agree

I can see the appeal of Bieber's new music and Where Are U Now is annoyingly catchy at times, but I've never been a fan of his vocals or that style of EDM so his new turn unfortunately isn't for me. Wish him and 1D all the best though.

As much as I'd love to give them a chance, I just can't do it. I've hated them for so long that it's hard for me I think also a lot of it has to do with my taste in music as well, with it being J-rock/J-pop/Visual Kei. I don't know how to really explain it, especially since I'm not really the grudge-holding type. :/

Well, that's pretty childish... You hated them, why? What did they ever do to you? I don't like j-pop/j-rock, but I never hate on it. It shouldn't be "hard" for a 27-year-old to stop hating on people, when they've basically done nothing wrong. I'm sorry, but you should broaden your horizons and not hate on JB/1D without even giving them a chance.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Biebs was totally redeemed in popular culture now? Most people seem to have changed from hating him to loving him in 2015. I personally don't like his style of music, but it's probably some of the better stuff on the radio at the moment. It certainly seems to help that his loyal fanbase are a bit less vocal right now.

As for One Direction, it's the same case as Bieber for me really. I have nothing against them personally, but I'll never be a big fan of their music. Contrary to Bieber though, I'm not going to hold them up as one of the better big name artists at the moment and their fans are just as worrying as Bieber's were in their heyday.

I don't dislike One Direction, in fact I quite like a lot of their older songs, I wouldn't download their stuff but if it comes on the radio i'd sing along.
1D will always get hate because they're a boy band I guarantee once they all start doing their own thing people with start taking them seriously.

JB isnt my taste old or new (except that one song he did with Nicki Minaj but I cant remember what it was called)..
But has everyone else gave him a chance, yeah ive lost count of the amount of people ive seen who say they really love his new stuff.

I also dont think the internet fanbase mentality helps these guys get taken seriously when there is always some crazy conspiracy or attack on someone i.e like hating every female 1D members are seen with. Yes there are millions of fans who dont act like kids on twitter but when all people see is the 12 year olds that fuels the stereotype.

Yes! My roommate and I were actually discussing this about a month ago when we heard both 1D's and Justin Bieber's new albums on Spotify. They actually don't annoy the **** out of us like their older stuff did. 1D wasn't as bad, but some of JB's old stuff I just can't stand! Where Are U Know and What Do You Mean are songs that I really liked! Pentatonix actually covered Where Are U Know, which I was surprised with!

I have always hated that ****ing kid and his music. I heard One Direction catered to the same demographic, so I know how much I'll like their stuff as well.

I don't know. I wasn't fond of their music at first. I remember hearing that 1D song that kept playing in the cafés I went to, and in malls, and just nope. Nope. I tried JB out of pure curiosity... and nope. Didn't click with me at all.

The state of pop music nowadays does not appeal to me; including rap, RNB and britpop. I had a boy band phase, but I was into hard rock like 6 months after, while my best friend at the time was a major, major Backstreet Boys fangirl.

Hated him? Why? Seriously, there are people who have ACTUALLY done something bad, Westboro Baptist for example.

It's entirely possible to hate something even more than something else. Just because WBC is more vile than JB doesn't mean people can't hate JB as well. Hate has different spectrums, kind of like love. The kind of love I feel for my sister is not the same kind of love I'd feel for a girlfriend.

Let me hate who I want. Don't rain on my hate parade.

    Also:
if you're a 12-year-old who wants to feel "cool" by hating on Justin
Funny, because as I remember, 12-year-olds who want to feel "cool" were the reason why he became so popular in first place. It's also funny because what you just did is exactly the kind of personal attack against "haters" most people would expect out of a 12-year-old.

Your thread doesn't make any sense at all. It seems like you're venting your frustration at the fact that there are people out there who genuinely don't like the guy and his music. You like his music? Cool, more power to you, but that doesn't mean everyone has to.

"Is it time the world gave Justin Bieber and One Direction a chance?"

I can't speak for 1D because I made the wise decision of ignoring most teen pop/boy band artists ever since N-Sync and ESPECIALLY after Bieber, but the world has already given Bieber a chance. The proof is the fact that Bieber has been nominated for numerous music awards, has hordes of fans (including apparently you), he's the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record chart on the Billboard Hot 100, and his first album alone is certified 3x Platinum in several countries and received a Grammy nomination - which isn't impressive to me considering how low an opinion I have of the Grammys to begin with. Obviously a significant portion of the world has given him a chance.

That's Carly Rae Jepsen's album, silly.
