    Heya everyone,

In the bible it says about Adam and Eve as everyone knows, but are Adam and Eve:

    1. Real
    2. If real, everyones great great great great great*1,000,000,000 - 1 billion Grandparents?

    P.S: See no trolling

Debate-bait. But since I believe in this, I'll go with yes, we are all indeed related, though it's distant enough that inbreeding is no longer a real issue. More later.

As a Christian, even I wouldn't count on the story of Adam and Eve being historically accurate. it's silly Hebrew mythology. :D

Many geneticists believe that every human on earth is at least related to eachother as a fiftieth cousin though. :P

Well, I'd imagine we're all related, whether through Creation, Evolution, or whatever other theories (if any) there are.

Adam and Eve: All of humanity spawned from them.
Evolution: All from the same origin. There might be multiple first human branches, but going back to pre-human times would link them together.

I don't think everyone can be related, because then there would be incest, and the bible says you can't. So if we are all related, that means we are all doomed. Evolution could make us all related but I'm not gonna start hooking up with my family, thats just strange.

No, of course not. Adam and Eve probably aren't even real, and yes, I'm a Christian.
If everybody in the world really IS related, then I'm related to Britney Spears. Love me.

Hypothetically, if Adam and Eve were a true story and every human on this planet did descend from them, then yes, everyone is partially related. It actually doesn't even stop there if you take the bible as truth. Didn't all but like 10 humans perish in the floods in the Noah's Ark story? And weren't all of the ones left either related to Noah or married to someone related to him? So everyone came from there, too.

However, after ~6000 years or whatever it's been, humanity has branched out so much that it doesn't even matter that we were all once (presumably) related. Yeah, if you go waaaay back, it's fully possible that the girl you fancy is related to you but you're so far away on the family tree that there'd be nothing to worry about biologically and that's really the main reason incest is a big deal. (Ignoring Western social values, anyway.)

I don't think everyone can be related, because then there would be incest, and the bible says you can't.
I suppose it says you can't but there is a lovely story about incest in the case of need in Genesis. Really, if you're supposed to take hidden meanings from stories, that'd imply that it's A-OK to practise incest so long as there is no other option. :> That said, I wouldn't consider the Bible to be that great a source to practise religion from anyway. The Bible is weird.

Personally, I define incest narrowly. It only qualifies as incest if they're immediately related to you, or are any kind of aunt or uncle, or grandparent

With cousins, I think the rule should be to stay away from immediate cousins. (First Cousins)
Now optionally, one may consider avoiding up to the Third Cousins (including Second Cousins), but this depends on how religious you are.

Well we are all brothers and sisters. So technically i belive we are all related no matter if your a christian, jew and others.

You know, the terms "brother" and "sister" aren't used exclusively as calling someone your sibling? It could also be used in religious terms. Nun's call other Nun's sister. We call Nun's sister. We call Pastors father, does that make him our biological father?

While I will also call friends brothers and sisters.

As of now, we are too genetically diversified (although being one of the most genetically similar species) to be related. Now, we might have been in the past. But not now.

Klippy, Erik and Hiiro are my brothers but we do it all the time, so what? n____n

On a more serious note, I do think that, while we're all related, it's not enough to class sex with another person as incest. Personally, I think it's quite stupid if someone does that because it's too small of a margin. Oh well, good luck to 'em.

I'm Muslim, and I do believe in them. And I guess, if you wanna be technical, they are out 1 billion+ great grand parents. Though that's debatable. xD

    Yes. Yes, we are.

I you go back, say 1000 years, in everyone's ancestry there will be far more ancestors than there ever was humans on the planet. Therefore it is safe to assume we must all be interelated.

If it seems confusing, allow me to explain. Everyone who was born in Europe is descended from the 8th century king Charlemagne. The reason being is that since every person has 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, etc., by the time you get back to the 13th century, you'll have had more ancestors than people who have lived on the planet. This was discovered in 1995, by a man called Mark Humphreys at Dublin University. He discovered that his wife was the great-granddaughter of King Edward III, 20 generations down the line. He also discovered that Hermann Göring and the American explorer Daniel Boone had the same ancestry and then realised that the mathematics meant that everyone had the same ancestry as well.

So there you go, the answer is yes. Also, we are all decended from Mitochondrial Eve anyway (If you don't know what that is, give it a quick Googling).

Don't worry though, those are not incestuous feelings that you have for that girl who works at the bakery. :cer_wink:

I believe, in one way or another, we are all related to eachother. I've believed that long before I can even remember. But, to be completely honest, there are a few individuals that I wouldn't be happy to be related to, unfortunately. But I'm sure we would be able to settle our differences eventually if they only knew how to pull their pants up from around their thighs, learn to walk properly, learn to talk like respectable individuals, learn to type and spell properly (or the best they can), and, above all, learn to respect the differences in individuality from everyone else.

Even from a non-religious standpoint... Technically, yes... We're ALL related. I'm not just talking about humans in general, but every living thing that exists on this planet, we're technically related to.

Of course, we're nothing like each other at all. I'm not a fly or a shark, but I'm betting I have a very basic a primitive form of life that was once the super-ultra-great-grandparents to both of us.

We are all related in a way, but it basically doesn't matter anymore. There is too much genetic diversity for it to matter anymore.

Just to be offtopic, while incest isn't my cup of tea, I won't try to make/enforce a law prohibiting incest and telling people who they can and can't love, as long as they are of age.

I don't think everyone can be related, because then there would be incest, and the bible says you can't. So if we are all related, that means we are all doomed. Evolution could make us all related but I'm not gonna start hooking up with my family, thats just strange.

It's only incest if you are related to them to the second or third degree I think.

It's weird to think we're all related, but we are all the same 'species', and we had to start somewhere, so no matter what you believe in.. it does seem true that we're all related in a way. If you choose to think of it like that. Still, with all the bloodlines, all the races, and such.. we might as well all have completely different chemical makeup at this point.

I feel like all I was repeat what everyone else said, since most people here are agreeing with eachother, but oh well.. it's my two cents. xD

From both perspectives, creationism and evolution, all humans are descended from a common ancestor(s) so yes.

Sure we are all related n__n we all came from the same clump of space dust which led to cells, colonies, organisms, plants, animals and all their subgroups. :P

I'm not quite decided on Mitochondrial Eve, as it infers that there was one woman, her mate and their children and then other people were just shipped in to breed with her children so no inbreeding occured XD Humans had multiple evolution locations and so there should be multiple source points, therefore our common ancestor (for the worldwide population) are single cells back at the dawn of life on earth.
