    [PokeCommunity.com] Internet Relay Chat (IRC)

    This is a discussion thread on one of the most easiest, and most simple in terms of chatting. From personal experience, I've been an IRC user since 2009, after a really good friend of mine (we're STILL friends today thanks to this), introduced me to mIRC and had to follow many of his instructions in order to get into the correct channel and server. Today I'm still an avid user.

    Discuss your experience with Internet Relay Chat! How long have you been using it? Have you owned a server before? Have you moderated/administrated a server before? Do you like it? If you are an avid user, what IRC client do you use?

    Discussion note: this is a general discussion about IRC as a whole and it should not be used to consult for help in regards to accessing the IRC chatrooms PC has. There are sticky threads for that!

    also image screencapped about... 2 years ago?

    I never actually used irc... Is it something that I should try to read more about, or has it been surpassed by more modern ways of communication?

    IRC is probably one of the earliest methods of instant messaging and chatrooms. It's kinda dying, but still alive at the same time. It was so popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but not so much these days, but people still do use IRC to this day.

    I love IRC and I'm on it all the time! XD It's funny on IRC hanging out with people you know definitely, and some of the funniest things I see on the internet happen in IRC. I also run my own IRC server and others connect to it as well, and we all have a good time with chatting and whatnot.

    I tried IRC for the first time upon joining PC but never got too into it. I'd always forget to sign into the program and had troubles using mIRC in specific since it confused me plenty no matter if I read guides or explanations. Luckily there was Mibbit which was simple but still. ;_;

    Stopped using it about a year back-ish since the staff Skype chat became active. I've no need to use IRC anymore as there are other platforms that are used more frequently.

    I've been familiar with IRC for a long time, but never really use it much. :( It's a great way to meet and make friends with people online, yes, but I much prefer message boards and IM systems (like Skype and AIM) over them, as they're more... I don't know, cozy? Haha. IRC is pretty comfortable, too, but it just isn't my thing. If they had updated the system to be more modern, though, then I might have gotten into it.

    I've always been a big IRC junkie. Since about 2009, I've hung out on PC IRC. Before that, I hung out on battle.net, which is basically Blizzard's version of IRC. I also hang out on Rizon, but I keep my information about that private, since, you know, different circles and all.

    I use Nettalk as my IRC client with a custom color scheme to make it look like the old battle.net StealthBot. I like dark themes and I think it looks pretty nice.

    How actively maintained are IRC clients on Windows? Getting a new laptop has made me realise that on the Mac side, support's terrible for anything that isn't a command-line client. I'm using a client that hasn't been updated in 3 years lol (and it's seriously needing one).

    I've been using IRC since 2005. I started off on SPP's Java chat, and soon changed to mIRC.
    I've actually had the same ugly setup for mIRC for ages. It's NoNameScript..and it hasn't been updated in probably 6 or 7 years XD;

    I don't get on as much as I used to (which was every day), and when I do it's usually just PC's network.

    I was introduced to mIRC in 2008, but I never really liked the interface as much. Although at the same time I was introduced to scripts, and mod actions. Right now I'm an & (admin) at a small server even though I don't visit aaaas much anymore, and it's been a while since I kicked someone.

    I'm a Chatzilla user, which is a Firefox IRC extension that's really simple to use. I use it all the time to access the PC IRC channels.
