In the Pokemon games, have you ever come across moves that you want to use, but you're just not inclined to use them for some reason? It could be due to another move outclassing said unused move; lack of space for the unused move; or other reasons.

Personally, I've always wanted to use Silver Wind in battle. But with the dawn of Generation 4, Bug Buzz just seems to outclass it, mainly in power. Yes, Silver Wind can grant a boost in five stats at once, but there's only a 10% chance of that happening. Bug Buzz's secondary effect has only a 10% probability of occurring as well, but Bug Buzz's extra 30 base power helps to alleviate this.

Back in the Generation 3 games, several of my Bug-type Pokemon such as Butterfree and Venomoth were going to learn Silver Wind for battling as their reliable Bug-type STAB move. But now, it's like Bug Buzz is the go-to Bug-type STAB move. At least Lumineon helped give Silver Wind a chance since Lumineon can't learn Bug Buzz... but it can learn Signal Beam, and that outclasses Silver Wind in power as well. Silver Wind was one of the animations I liked in RSE/FRLG, and I dislike that there's hardly an opportunity for me to use it properly.

...Maybe I'll just have Noctowl learn Silver Wind, who (fortunately?) can't learn Bug Buzz or Signal Beam, both of which seem to outclass Silver Wind. :\

So: any moves you'd like to use but just don't have the time for?

When I was 11, Ember totally outclassed Blaze Kick. Sure. It sounded nice, had a higher power, and all that jazz...but Ember was just so cool, I couldn't bear to part with it. EMBER FTW EVERYONE.

Poison Fang. Beck in GenIII, it was the stable attack of any Crobat I raised, mainly because I loved the chance of inflicting the toxic effect. XD

...Then GenIV had to go and introduce Cross Poison, which, between the high critical rate and the extra base power, is better in every possible way for an offensively oriented pokemon like Crobat. In fact, the only thing Poison Fang has over Cross poison is the chance to inflict the toxic effect, but I came to realize that Toxic isn't particularly useful over regular poison in-game, and any competitive situation where toxic would be a better choice, you might as well just use Toxic itself or set up with Toxic Spikes. XD

Back in Gen III, I refused to let Swampert learn Earthquake in order for it to keep Mud Shot. Back then, I thought that Mud Shot dominated for its ability to lower Speed. Thanks to the generation shift and more experience with the games, I decided to use Earthquake.

Even though my Meganium has a Jolly nature, I went with Magical Leaf over Razor Leaf, because of the accuracy and power boost, although I may swap it back.

I've never been able to give my Pokemon a recoil move, be it Take Down, Double-Edge, Flare Blitz or whatever. It just seems weird to me to let my Pokemon know a move that can hurt it as well as the opponent. Maybe I'm just a big softie?

Water Pulse and Shock Wave come to mind. Both are fairly strong and have interesting secondary qualities to them, but Surf and Thunderbolt outclass them.

I also stay away from recoil moves and those moves that confuse your own Pokemon afterward.

Body Slam is almost overlooked because of Return despite the former's helpful secondary effect.

I wanted to have Thunder or Fire Blast on my Nidoking on Heart Gold, but I need a Surfer, so those options were limited. Same with my Dragonair in Soul Silver, I wanted it to have Extremespeed, but it's Timid + 0 Atk IVs really hurt it (I honestly forgot to save to SR, I thought that after the quiz you had a chance to save)

I really wanted my Kingdra in Black to have Signal Beam, as apart from my Eelektross' U-Turn, it'd be the only Bug move on my team. However, that would mean breeding... and breeding would result in a Horsea that I'd have to trade eventually, which I can't do for two weeks as I have no Wi-Fi and none of my friends from back home play any more so Signal Beam for Kingdra. Flash Cannon's not too bad, but only really useful against Ice critters.

I'm the same situation as Sydian, to this day I MUST have Aurora Beam on my team - Ice Beam's cool and all but there's something about that rainbow-coloured beam that cannot be denied!! :D
