How-to-draw Pokemon!

This will be a new How-to-draw pokemon, And unlike the other one these pokemon will be in original poses I made a year ago and planed on there how-to's so they should be a little easier to fallow as well.

And after the Lesson there may be some shading styles you can use on you'r new pokemon drawing.

You can also post how you'rs went when you tryed to draw the pokemon and post you'r own how to's on pokemon ^^.

I would like this thred to be used on helping people to draw and refreshing how to draw for those who might have stoped years ago.

You are also welcome to requests how-to-draws on other things I have done such as:

How-To-Draw dragons
How-To-Draw horses
How-To-Draw Wild animals
How-To-Draw Home pets.
And so on.

I will also be showing some ways to help you pose the pokemon in you'r own ways threw four easy steps.
However it will not come with every pokemon. And i can never make things on time.
Though I wish to keep with one pokemon how to a week, There is no telling if I can stick with it cause of other requests and busness offers.

Now like the other one this Idea came from Pokechick.
Umbreon was the starting point but I will do all of the 151 starter pokemon befor I moved up to the others .

To start I will show you how-to-draw: DODUO

Now when you begin You should start with three ovals in line with eachother to make a even triangle.
Then when you are done, make a larger oval around the point on the right.
And this should be what you come up with.

They will make DODUO's Body and heads.

okay.. Now that you started the best thing to do next is the lines of where the diffrent parts will go.
Draw a line in a angle going to you'r right.
Then make another next to it connecting both to the larger oval.

When they are finished make two more lines connect to them going at a angle to you'r left.
mind you these need to be longer for they will make the bottom half of DODUO's Legs. And there longer to catch speed like a real animal.

Make four small lines fit together with the longer line. They will be DODUO's tose.

Connect A line from the smaller oval in the body to the top oval on you'r left. This line will make DODUO's neck.
Make another Right below it to make the last oval it's other head,

:Tip:
Bend it just a tiny bit so they look relaxed.

Once you do that make The lines for where the eyes and beaks will go.
One going from the top and another from the left.
These will look like crosses.
Where they meet will be where the beaks start.
And this is your view now.

Next up is the face.
To do it. I would like you to see this graph first.

Now Just do the first part.
On DODUO's Face, Make a trangle poiting down. Then make another pointing to you'r left right over it. The angals should meet in makeing a small triangle inside the two.
As shown in Fig 1

Then make a M of where the beak meets the head.
This will make the starting form of the beaks shape. Fig 2

Stop here if you wish to. But if you would like it to go further now.

Once you finished the M Make you'r own Shape of the beak.

:Tip:
if DODUO is ment to be like the real thing with one more head then normal. Try to make it rounded on the end. Cause they wouldint be abile to be a bird of pray with there body figure.
And for fun being that this is you'r first one, Relaxe on the shape. If it turns out wierd it's more to em. After all this is DODUO where talking about o.o.

That makes fig 3
If you want you can add more detail by makeing the beaks outer part and the tougue show.
It adds emotion to many pokemon so now would be the best time to pratice ^^.

That makes fig 4.
Then After thats done you have alot of lines right?
Draw in pen what you wish to keep on the beak. But dont earase yet O_O, You need to finish DODUO.
The pen is just to remind you what you want to save.

The final fig is just to show what els you can do. Something fun and new after you do DODUO a few times.
:tip:
Just for a while try to stick with the diagrames. After you have done it once or twice you can help you'rsefl to changeing the pose and the beaks shape.

As the graph shows you can do the eyes just like you did the heads. In smaller ovals make the eyes and color the in but leave a even smaller oval then the eye itself. This will be the core.

You can do all these in step 3 but try to take you'r time.
And remember DODUO is a wierd pokemon , If he looks that way. It's okay.

Next you need to make the legs more balky.
Try makeing long boxes around the lines of the uper leg area.
Once thats done make some lines for the necks and have them bend just as the necks do.

After that Make two more boxes around the lower legs.

Tip"
Try to make it just above the tose and make it aline with the uper leg blocks. It will help make the knee area.

Here you can start puting in some detail. Add a little zig zag shape to the end of both necks that connect to the body, They will make its fethers where the necks come out.

Dont mind the beak are if you already did it. I figured I would make it in two ways so I showed them on this graph as the finished beaks.

Lugia's one of my favorites to draw,And they can be posed in so many ways O.O .


Also I'll finish DODUO so you can all try it ^^

Now last I left off was right after the end of the legs.
Next part is to do the tose.
Try and make them in line with one another so they fit together.
Be sure to keep them right where you placed the line for where they where ganna go.
Just make sevral oval shaps around the toe area and then shape the tose. After that do the nails.
All you need is triangles,Make them going down from where the tose are and place a mark area of where they will connect to the tose.
Do all of thee foot in pen and earase you'r starting lines.

Now you can add the detail for DODUO's body just by doing a bunch more of those zig zags.

tip: Try to make them going down, when you reach the half way mark change the angle of the zig zags. That will make DODUO's fur like body.

Then mark with a pen what parts of DODUO you wish to keep by going right over you'r lines.
Make a little bump where the knea meets and a small Y where the other end of the knea connects to both parts.
Make the beak and the toungue over the zigzags you made around DODUO's face and Fill in the eyes with you'r pen.
After you'r done marking everything it's time to make the finisheing step =D

Useing a pencil earaser earase the pencil lines and the pen should stay.
This will clean up all the marks and make the finished drawing ready for color ^.^

Tip:
If some Pen lines should get earased , Remark where it was so that it is a thick line around DODUO's shape.

And with that this t00t is done ^^
I hope to show shading styles on DODRIO for you all to use on both of them .

Now DODRIO can be placed the same way DODUO was in the same pose.

However if you want it diffrent like DODUO running or something the best way to do it is by Changing the areas of where the neck and heads are . And placeing them in a upright Fashion. Like DODUO is looking strait out at the running feild.Then shape everything els to match.

It's hard to get it right sometimes but as long as you keep trying it should turn out just fine in the end.

Thanks for the comment Dragonair^^. I love doing how to's , Being that I'v been drawing for 6+ years I expect to be close to as good as my brother who learned in the Art instatute of chicago.
It's not of my highest hopes though.
I rarely see em anymore -_-.
I'm just glad he's proud of me for my mid days horse^^.

I want to do How-To-Draw in order to help other people draw .
When I first started I wished there was a how to for pokemon but no matter where I looked there wasint. So in a way I'm doing this so that it wont happen again to somone els.

Thanks for the comment on DODUO, He was alot of fun to draw and a breez to show how to draw em.
Alot of ovals go into DODUO and DODRIO.

And as for the lugia you'r avy would make a nice How-To-draw pose.
I'll see of wich one would do best when I'm makeing em.

Cause in order for me to do a How-To-Draw t00t.
I need to start with a drawing that I can do quickly, Then I choose out of sevral wich is best. After I draw it I then make the How-To on how I did it.
It's alot of fun and the shapes help keep the perportions just right ^^.
Though it also takes me sevral trys befor getting it right For a t00t. I get there eventualy XD.

Btw you can post how the Doduo turned out and Give C&C on if the t00t was hard or not.
It will help in ranking them threw the thred laiter on.
So far from what I'v seen in the pictures I'v looked at the last two days. I'd say LUGIA will be slightly easy/moderait to draw.

I'm ganna make today a break inbetween drawing the how-to's and Draw Charizard at The pokecommunity oekaki, Seems like people are drawing him and his other forms alot laitly so I wish to join in the hype of my favorite starter pokemon. After that I will be gone for two days cause it's my brothers days off. However when I come back I may be ready to start showing the How-To-Draw LUGIA depending on if things came up in the two days or not. If things did come up it will be ready by monday of next week.

How-To-draw Lugia is finished! Here ya go lugia65 ^^

Did you keep any information on zip disk or cds?
I hope you didint loose everything . And it's alright , You can show it laiter on and in future posts to come ^^.

Well heres what you'v been waiting for . The how to draw lugia was done 4 hours after the online request was made.
It took till 5:00 pm chicago time to finish it the next day. Nothing much Happened in the two days leading up to my time back online so I also finished my moms White tiger and I'll be posting that a little laiter on.

Right now though, enjoy the new How-To-Draw LUGIA.
I checked out many pics and chose to make em in my own pose once more.


Lets begin.

To start, Make a slanted long oval. It will make LUGIA's body and guide most of you'r lines. So be sure to also make it darker then all you'r other ones.

After that make another oval slanting a little higher in the back side of the longer one. This will become the top of his leg.

In order to start the wings you need to make a long box, It should also be at a angal. Have it be at the top left side of the oval. Right behind it make the start of the next wing . But dont go all the way. Stop once you reach the first box.

Now a little far away to the left, Make a round sided triangle. It should look like half a kite. on the last end leading to the oval. Make it as close to the shape of a relaxed U as it will go. And meet it with the top point.
It will become LUGIA's head.

This is what it should look like at this point.

tip: keep in mind the head hasta be far enough away to makie a long neck and a long tail .

Once you'v donethose make another box to fit over the one you have on you'r wing. Dont do the other one this time. Cause it's ment to have lugia slightly flying away from you. And the part you did befor is this end you'r doing on the other wing.

Now you can do a Small box at the right side of the smaller oval. This will be his lower leg leading to his three tose.

More detail needs to be made in order to make LUGIA's head so lets go there next.

Make the same triangle you did befor seped way smaller. Just inside the right hand side of it. This will be the blue blade that go's over LUGIA's eye.
After that make a normal triangle below it,like the beginning of DODUO's beak =D! This will make LUGIA's lower jaw.

You should have something that looks like this:

Almost half way.
Now you need to do his feet, To make them you can think of a cartoon ducks feet. I noticed thats kinda what his look like. So make the shape of a box with the end thats going out of the lower leg being bigger the when you started it.

Once thats finished make another one a little smaller in the back. At the same time he is moveing away from you. So make it stop once it reaches the front foot.

After that, make a triangle just like you did the lower jaw. Inside the eye blade.It's ganna be alot smaller though so it will fit, And this will become LUGIA's eye.

Make two tiny triangles for the teath that show out of his month . It would be best to make the one in front touch the lower jaw shape and the one in back be a little higher .Cause as you'll see in the end you will be abile to notice the inside of his mouth.

To start the shap of a body you need a guide line. Make a line for the neck and keep the line going threw the body and to the tip of the tail. This will be the guidewire for the finishing touches,neck and tail.

Now it's down from here ^^ . May get hard but keep trying o.o!

Shape LUGIA's body by Going around the line with you'r neck and tail like the DODUO was. But when you reach the body oval Round you'r line to it and go shorter again at the end to make the tail.

Once thats finshed creat LUGIA's tose. Make a two simple lines for them , But dont go all the way up. Just threw half of the feet.

Now make the last of his wings By makeing a angled toob box that fits right over the last one.
Behind you do the same thing. But again be sure not to go threw to the other one.

This stage is almost finished and you have only a few more shapes left.
Make sevral angled boxes for the plumage on his back , Five will do.

tip:
Make them going from big on the top to smaller and smaller as it go's down his back.

And this is what you have now:

Now it's time for finishing touches!^^

Make a rounded triangle near the tip of the tail at the bottom end. This will be a tail spike. Next do another one above from behind and that will make that side.

After you'v finished it shape the hands by making three lines for the fingers on his wing and a long box for the thumb. Round off the corners for the fingers and make tiny triangle for where they spred apart.

Round off the tose and shape the pattern on his belly by making a relaxed U going from the bottom of his chest to the line you made and then turn and make a rounded line going from there to the end of the uper leg.

Then Make the final shape for the leg and connect it with the foot.

Tip:
Round off the end of the foot so it looks like it's all connected.

Make the last of the plumage by placeing some boxes in back of the ones made befor.
And begin to shape the face.

Now it would be best to choose what you want. I made a juvinile like face so the head is rounded alot more then a older LUGIA's would be.

Next step add whatever detail diffrent you want and do it all in pen. Then get rid of the lines. And you have LUGIA.

BABY LUGIA! ^-^ trying to eat a leaf...T_T icky

Here is the baby lugia =D
It's a juv about... 42 days of age in mid flight.
He got a twig by mistake while trying to take off so he's hungery... Why not try eating the leaf O.o?

Now to many people, Lugia is a meat eater... so you can only guess what face he would have on if he finished the leaf..


Start just like you did the mommy lugia... actualy most of it is alot like the mommy.
I consider this a moderait to farly hard drawing. So try and take you'r time, and if it dosint come out right thats okay. You can always try again laiter=D .

But start by making a oval angled about.. 90% from the mommy's
Then on the back end make two rounder shapes. For baby lugia is a little chubby compaired to mommy .And the shapes will become its upper legs.

Once thats done make the arrowish shape just like the moms. But a little biger cause babys are cute and chibbi is too XD.This will make his head.
Heres what you should have now.

Now then.
Make the duck foot shapes on the end of the legs. These will be his feet grasping the twig, so make them a little more tilted then mommy lugia.

After you'v done that make a rounded triangle inside his head. This will become the dark blue to navy blue eye plumage.

tip:
The face and everything needs to be much more rounded then the mommy. No spikes and little shape to all the sharp points.

Now you'r going to make the lower wings. Just like mommy lugia but in a diffrent angle.
Make a long boxed oval on the back of the biger oval and a little more up above the oval Is where you should place the next box.
Unlike mommy lugia these will be his whole lower wing.

Half way threw now ^^
Next you need to make another triangle inside the eye plumage for his eye. After that make a line inside of it .

Next make a line going threw his whole body and head, Just like the mommy you need to continue this line for the tail and unlike mommy make the tail longer then the head.

Once thats compleated you can add the start of his back plumage by soing three boxed oval shapes from the bigest just below the wings to the smallest just below the legs along the back of the large oval.

Tip:
Mommy lugia has five on each side of her back. Just like all babies he's a smaller version of his mom. So make the three a little biger for cuteness and more round.

The final step on this is to make a spear shape between the feet of baby lugia. This will become the twig with the leaf on it.

Start the next step by forming the body just like mommy lugia's t00t.

Then put a bunch of triangles on both sides of the spear shape. These will be the areas where the spinters came off when mommy lugia was makeing the nest ^^.
On the end that is near his face. Make half of a oval and shape the beak around it.That will be the little leaf =D.

Now make two round angled triangles on the ends of the lower wing shapes. These will make his hands folded inward like he's flaping.

Once thats done shape the feet like mommy lugia's t00t shows and then shape the upper legs into the body.
Finish the final part by placeing his other back plumage behind the first three, and make the sky blue pattern on his belly.

Final step befor erasing ^^!

Make the beak a little more rounded around the twig and a little line comming from the side for his mouth.

After that make the ovals for his thumbs and shape the hand like the mommy lugia's t00t.
Mind you his wings are folded in flaping. So make a angled line along the palm of his right hand that is shown in back.

Then make two small rounded triangles on the tip of the tail for his tail spikes that havent grown all the way yet.

Now you can add whatever detail you want, I myself chose in this t00t to make little lines on the twig for bark, and a X shape on the leaf for it's vains.

The final step is like any other. Shape everything you want to keep and mark it all in with a pen, Then erase the pencil lines and if the pen seems to erase a little to. Add it back in.

And thats:

Next up I think will be a how-to-draw from the original eps of pokemon from when Nidoran male and female met up and ash got there information for the first time.

This next one will be vary hard to Vary much impossible for fast use...
So try to take you'r time more then ever and practice often befor the 14th=D.

I have the same problem.....
Humans are hard and freaky when I draw them.
I have problems with there faces and there poses can be quite weird.

I'll try my best though laiter on in the year as my drawing skills progresses.
