Are Legendary Pokemon one-of-a-kind, or just super-rare Pokemon and there are multiples of each out there? Or maybe a mix depending on what Pokemon it is? What do you think? I don't mean like how you can have 5 Diancies in game--but in the universe itself (maybe counting the games and anime separately).

I think of legendaries like this:
    Multiple:
    Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres
    Deoxys
    Phione
    Shaymin
    Latios, Latias
    Celebi
    Heatran
    Genesect
    Regirock, Regice, Registeel

    One
    Mewtwo, Mew
    Ho-Oh, Lugia
    Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza
    Jirachi
    Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf
    Dialga, Palkia
    Regigigas
    Giratina
    Arceus
    Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Keldeo
    Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem
    Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde

    Not sure:
    Manaphy
    Cresselia, Darkrai
    Diancie
    Victini
    Meloetta
    Hoopa, Volcanion

    What do you guys think?

For the majority of them there seems to be only one of that Pokemon, though it can be argued in some cases that perhaps there's more than one but only one individual has been spotted by people so far (there's also some though you can't make that argument for, like the Tao Trio).

There's also cross-canon conflicts, as in the games there's only one Lugia, but in the anime it's shown that there's more than one, with the reverse case being the Creation Trio, where multiple of them can exist in the games (via the Sinjoh Ruins event) while in the anime there seems to be only one Palkia/Dialga/Giratina.

I think in the end, no Pokemon is really "legendary" if we can actually capture them. Then, not to mention, if you have more than one captured thanks to having multiple game saves and so forth, it pretty much creates a time paradox where there are an indefinite number of "legendary" Pokemon.

Like, don't get me wrong, I love having Mew and Mewtwo part of my team, but they just don't seem as legendary anymore, since I can control them. I don't know, but in a way, it just seems like the whole "Legendary" concept is blown out of proportion, since all anyone needs is a Masterball (or status effect (such as sleep) + high grade Pokeball (such as Ultra Ball)) in order to capture one.

Like, Arceus is the "God" of Pokemon, and yet... we can control him with a simple Masterball, makes no sense if you think about it. So much for being a "God", you just got captured and now serve a 14yr old kid (referring to in-game age, not real age).
