I think the amount of "e"'s show that it's supposed to be ee-vee. It's based on the it's Japanese name which you pronounce with a long "e" sound, or close enough to it, anyway.
It's an interesting question. I've always pronounced it 'ee.vee, as that's how it looks on paper. The double 'e' at the end could be said a couple of ways, like 'ay' or 'ee', but 'ee' is more phonetic, so I tend to go with that. Just think.
