Scarlet & Violet are the first games in all 27 years of playing Pokemon that I have ever defeated the Pokemon League on my first attempt and it was a really special achievement for me as I have been close to achieving it on several occasions in previous games.

The Pokemon League in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl frustrated me with how hard it was to defeat the Elite Four and Cynthia I know most fans wanted a difficulty increase and they got what they asked for but I beat on my 3rd attempt on Brilliant Diamond and 7th attempt on Shining Pearl I was thrilled when I finally did defeat her and the number of attempts are a massive improvement from the numbers I had in the original Sinnoh games

Diamond (2007) took me 32 failed attempts against Cynthia won on 33rd
Pearl (2007) took me 19 failed attempt against Cynthia won on my 20th
Platinum (2009) took me 22 failed attempts against Cynthia won on my 23rd

Legends Arceus was annoying as hell I struggled so much on my very first playthrough to defeat Volo I lost 55 times before I finally prevailed on my 56th attempt the longest it has taken me in any game since Colosseum to defeat the final trainer.

This is my record starting from Ruby

Ruby - defeated Steven on my 15th attempt
Sapphire - defeated Steven on my 13th attempt
Emerald - defeated Wallace on my 6th attempt

Cannot remember losing to a Champion, even in a challenge run. May have happened when younger, but probably not. Would have spammed items to escape a jam.

Lost to Red at Mt Silver in Crystal a few times recently, if you wish to count that. Entered way underleveled. (Leveled to 49 on Red's level 77 Blastoise.) Won on the third attempt. Took a few tries for Smeargle to not get fried by Pikachu.

I am genuinely curious. How could you lose so many times to NPCs? Are you doing something to make the game more challenging to you?

Other than a couple of times when testing strategies in Sword's Battle Tower, I've never lost to any NPC, especially not a Champion. They're all easy to me.

Part of it was being young and not understanding things properly but as the years have gone on I have got better except for the 55 failed attempts at Volo I never EV train my Pokemon but I just have never understood when my team have been several levels higher than the NPC team that I have been one shot on a number of occassions.

Maybe you had trouble understanding type matchups when you were younger as well, as well as stats too? I know it can be complicated for kids sometimes.

kinda impressed that TC can remember the exact number of times he lost to the E4/Champion in every single Pokemon game he's played

I can't really remember it all that well myself. Probably lost sometimes in Gens 1 and 2 because 7 year old me was dumb as fuck and Pokemon was one of my first video games. I don't really lose to NPCs much in general though so I've definitely beaten many on the first try. Though I did lose to Volo once (or rather, the Giratina you have to fight immediately after beating his main party), and I think to Lance once on one of my more recent Soul Silver runs because Johto level curve is ass.

I can't remember precisely, but indicatively yes.

LG: It took me several tries, despite the regional birds in my team. I seem to recall to be quite underleveled. I'd say around 10 tries
Emerald: First run I did it at my first try. My overlevelled Swampert + Rayquaza did the thing. With random challenge, I realized that Wallace can be quite hard at a times and I am pretty sure it took me around 20 tries to beat him
Diamond: My first game. I basically only used Empoleon, so I couldn't get over Lucian. My cousin helped me and gave me his level 100 pokemon so that was first try.
Platinum: I don't remember at all, but I'd say it was definitely a 3rd/4th try.
SS: I think this one got me like 3 tries. I can't remember as it was much time ago. I recall playing the game again in 2019, but I have even less memories about it lol, like I am sure I finished the game, but I can't recall my team and how I did in the League lol.
Black: I think it was a first try. I don't recall thinking it was a hard battle
Black 2: I remember this one and it was a first try. Crobat was my last mon and was in red HP, but was faster than the last Iris' pokemon and with Fly I won.
X: Played twice, both an easy 1st try
AS: 2nd try. I couldn't get past the fourth elite 4 and I decided to leave and train my pokemon a bit and get more remedies. I was heavily underlevelled.
UM: I think it was a 1st try. At some point of the game I got lazy and got some level 100 legendaries that were distributed and used them to win.
Sw: 1st try. The whole game is easy, but the last fight isn't too easy. Yet, I could easily win.
V: 1st try. They heal your pokemon before the Champion, which helps a lot. Gardevoir + calm mind kinda sweeped almost all of her team.

Technically, I guess I can say that I have lost to a champion before, and that was to Leon in Sword's Battle Tower. I am not sure if that counts though. lol

To be exact for me is always around 3-7 lose in every league
    1.fire red 7
    2.sapphire 6
    3.emerald 7
    4 diamond 3
    5. Platinum 5
    6. Heart gold 4
    7. Black 7
    8. Black2 3
    9. X 5
    10. Sun 4
    11. Ultra sun 4
    12. Omega ruby 3
    13. Sword 7
    14. Scarlet 3
Although playing since fire red I'm pretty much still suck

My numbers may not be accurate since I am going off of memory:

    Fire Red: about 5 attempts - 2011?
Fire Red (National Dex): 2nd attempt - 2012?
    Emerald: 2 attempts - 2009
    Ruby: 2 attempts - 2011
    Leaf Green : More than 20 idk - 2008-2010
Leaf Green (National Dex): 1st attempt - 2014
    Diamond: 1st attempt - 2008
    Pearl: 2 attempts - 2014
    Platinum: 2 attempts - 2009
    Heart Gold: 1st attempt - 2010
Heart Gold (National Dex): 2nd attempt - 2010
    Heart Gold (Red): 4 attempts - 2011
    Black 1 (N): 1st attempt - 2011
    Black 1 (Alder/National Dex): 2 attempts - 2011
    Black 2: 1st attempt - 2012
    X: 1st attempt - 2014
    Omega Ruby: 1st attempt - 2014
    Sun: 1st attempt - 2015

Heart Gold was when I started using actual teams instead of trying to rely on the lone starter and freshly caught legendaries. I recall in Diamond using a level 92 Empoleon that solo everything except Flint's Infernape and Cynthia's Garchomp, used lv 63 Dialga for them. My favorite memory has to be against Lance the 1st run, because I sweeped him using the red gyarados with ice fang, dragon dance, and water fall. His first pokemon is Gyarados so I set up 6 dragon dances and proceeded to one-shot his whole team. The most painful memory is trying to beat Agatha in Leaf Green when my strongest pokemon, Venusaur, couldn't get past her golbat or Gengars. It wasn't until I later caught Zaptos that I got past her only to be beated by Lance and Blue respectfully. Years later I would challenge Blue again after obtaining national dex, and this time I came prepared with a Mewtwo and Rayquaza from Emerald.

In Moon, I took two tries, and in Scarlet, three. The former was because Kukui actually knows how to strategize against an idiot with a 3DS, and the latter was because I wanted to make things challenging with a mono-Poison team (I whited out a lot in my Scarlet playthrough). I never got past Wallace in Emerald, but I haven't really broken a sweat against any other Pokémon League.

I have beat every Champion in one try mostly. I have rarely struggled against champions. The only games I've probably been defeated in more than a few times would be Red/Blue/Yellow and GSC. This was mostly because I only trained one pokemon for the entire game because I was so young.

I don't remember losing to Cynthia more than once or twice in Diamond and Pearl, but beat her in one try in BDSP. Even in Legends Arceus it only took twice to beat Volo because I was expecting the fight, after his main team which only took once.

I struggled more with Ultra Necrozma than any of the Champions because I had a team that was weak to every attack Necrozma had and he would change the move based on what pokemon I had out which would always 1 Hit KO. But then beat him with a Lv 30 or so Zorua and Foul Play because of Illusion which made my pokemon look like another and he was using an attack Zorua was immune to.

I will say I almost lost to Cynthia in BDSP. But Empoleon pulled out 3 or 4 back to back 'Holding on by a thread so you don't feel sad' things, which allowed me to two hit Garchomp with Blizzard. It was the closest I'll ever get to an anime battle in a game.

To be honest I can't say I remember. But likely at least 1-5 attempts in RBY, maybe 1 or 2 in GSC, maybe one in Emerald, 3-5 in DPPt, and the rest probably on the first try.. except BDSP where I lost the first time around and had to go train lol. Cynthia is always tough.

Congrats on your first first-try victory! ❤️

I think the only champion that I lost to was Lance in HGSS. The levelling curve was horrid in those particular games, which played a part in my defeat. I remember getting quite quite vexxed at my inability to kill his highest level Dragonite. After my second attempt, I prevailed.

I can honestly say all of the other champions I have beaten on the first try if my memory serves me correctly. I've always had a tendency to ensure that my Pokémon's levels are on par with or above whichever champion I am facing. Moreover, I usually train one of my Pokémon specifically to counter the ace of the champion I am facing.

In Brilliant Diamond, I swept half of Cynthia's team with just my Beautifly, after a few Quiver dances, of course.
