In Generation II, most outdoor areas contain a number of special trees that Pokémon can use Headbutt on. Headbutting a tree sometimes causes a wild Pokémon to drop out. Depending on the time of day, the Pokémon which falls out may be asleep. Some Pokémon can only be caught by this method for example, Pineco, and Heracross.

What did you think of this mechanic? Did you ever bother to use Headbutt outside of battle? Ever catch a Pineco or Heracross with this method?

I liked it, it was that "HM" that there but wasn't really needed.

I caught a Heracross and used it on my main team. I did the same in SoulSilver.

It was a pretty good mechanic, I caught a heraxross in both GSC And HGSS.
I don't remember giving a damn about pineco, because it's one of my least favourite Pokemons of all time.

It did get a little tedious doing it over and over to find something, like Heracross or Aipom. But having other ways to search than the grass or caves was good.

I taught it was alright for about 5 minutes or so until it got rather tedious I never found a Pokemon that i wanted either way.

Only in the original games did I really use it for the tress. During my playthrough of the remakes I only used it for being much better than Tackle.

I actually liked the concept. It bought something new and fresh to the games. Although I never found that Heracross I was looking for, I did think it was quite the nifty move in battle, especially when it caused the opponent to flinch.
