Have you ever gotten a bootleg Pokemon Game?

These two threads had got me wondering: has anyone ever had the unfortunate situation of getting/buying a bootleg Pokemon game? This can mean your parents bought a bootlegged copy of Pokemon Leafgreen or straight out Chinese Bootlegs like Pocket Monsters Go! Go! Or even downloading those awful fake Pokemon mobile games (Safari Area).

Note that I'm specifically talking about bootlegged games that were known to be sold in order to get people to think they're actual Pokemon games. Pokemon Quarts, Pokemon Diamond/Jade, Pocket Monsters Go Go and Pokemon Chaos Black as examples. Or fake game cartridges you often see on Amazon like this. I'm not talking about custom carts with romhacks tacked on them.

But, yes, have you ever bought/had a fake Pokemon game in your possession before? I'm sorry if any of you have, especially main series fake games. That's really sucky.

i don't think so? every pokemon game i've ever gotten was legitimate. i'm actually kinda curious how a bootleg pokemon game plays from a real one.

Official games that are bootlegged (GBA ones specifically) can't migrate upwards to the gen four games. They usually don't have internal batteries inside, and some are buggy. But, I assume the games play the same as the real thing. I've never been duped w/a bootleg Pokemon game of the official series, so I'm only going off the stuff I've researched about it.

Unfortunately yeah. Back in the days when EU would be the last to receive the latest instalment, I'd have to take a risk by purchasing the games on eBay. I remember specifically my Leaf Green cartridge having issues (it'd get to a certain point and just crash, deleting all save data).

I used to have (may still have?) a bootleg version of Pokemon Leaf Green, which I got a few months before the games were released over here. I picked it up cheap at a car boot sale because I just couldn't wait for the real thing. It was functional, but a lot of NPCs (especially the Team Rocket Grunts) called me a bastard after I beat them, and the translation wasn't particularly great...or perhaps it was translated very literally from the Japanese version, which was why it was a bit wonky. It worked, but it wasn't very durable - I knocked it one time and it wiped the save file. But by then I had a legit copy of Fire Red so I was playing through that. xD

Most of all my games have been real... however... I had a FireRed version that I am not completely sure was real or not. It wasn't as colorful as all my other games.

It was a black cartage with a firered label on it, but it worked exactly like a pokemon game would work and I don't think it had any problems. It even worked with all my other pokemon games. I don't have it anymore, but it worked with all my games. So it was either a really great fake or someone painted the cartage.

But yeah, it worked with every game. Pokemon Diamond red it with the reverse compatibility and it never corrupted my games or anything. I sold with all my other pokemon games when I was getting out of pokemon, so when HGSS came around, it was a fresh start for me.

Every game I've ever played was fake...

Care to explain this? Are all your pokemon games bootlegs? What do you mean by "all the games I've played as fake"?

After looking to see if my Platinum Version that I got on ebay or game stop, I can't remember, I watched a video that seemed to make my Platinum version a fake, however, reading every single comment in said video had almost everyone, over 30 people, they said their's was fake as well and some people bought multi Platinums and those were fake as well. I find it hard to think that there was so many fake Platinum Games, especially for how long the came was in stores before it was finally removed.

So I am not sure my Platinum Version is real or not, but so far, I haven't had any problems with it. It had a mixture of both legit and fake indicators if the video was indeed correct.

My first copies of DPPt and HGSS all came in a sweet lil R4 cartridge lol. Thought I'd go legit and actually buy my next set of Pokemon games at the mall. Turns out they sell bootlegs in malls in the Philippines so I unknowingly got a fake copy of Emerald as my next game lmaoo. First ever experience of the game was ever so somewhat ruined by the dried up battery.
