Gym leaders, Elite 4, Trial leaders and Kahunas?

This is actually something I like about Pokemon games. In previous generations, friendships/ family ties between the Gym leaders of different regions (And the Elite 4s and Champions) were seen-- Claire and Lance for example.

And according to Bulbapedia: "In later games, it is made apparent that Gym Leaders know each other and are acquainted with Gym Leaders from other regions, as well as with members of the Elite Four and Champions. Examples of this are Jasmine being friends with Erika, Volkner being friends with Flint, Brawly training with Bruno, and most Unova Gym Leaders coming together to fight Team Plasma's Seven Sages."

How would you think the Gym leaders from previous generations could and might have any relationships of any form with the new Trial leaders?

I would speculate some of the Gym leaders and/ or Elite 4 of previous generation coming in to Alola to challenge the trials and all.

Alola seems to be really far away from the other regions, so I'm not sure if the Gym Leaders would know them.

There are a lot of Leaders and Elite Fours without full knowledge of their origin. Oak has a cousin in Alola so proximity, I think, is not a problem. What matters is how is Alola in track with other regions and how is Alola going to 'make it all come together'?

It's definitely possible that Gym Leaders from prior generations may have some sort of a relationship with some of the Trial Captains, but I doubt it, kinda? I say this because Alola seems like such a generally removed and isolated region compared to others; the only reason past characters seem to make an appearance is for battling purposes (meaning the Battle Tree).

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd like to see if there's any relationship that exists between the Trial Captains and any past Gym Leaders, but I can't really imagine any off the top of my head.

I don't believe any Gym Leaders from prior generations will have any correlation with Kahunas and Trial Captains in Aloha. I do however believe that the concept of Trial Captains and Kahunas is replacing the Gym Leader/Elite Four concept for this generation; and that perhaps the Champion has maybe even been scrapped too -- but there is still quite a big possibility there will be someone or something to replace that, too.
