3rd Gen Growlithe/Arcanine questions.

    I started over on Firered just for fun a couple of days ago and I caught a Growlithe. I've never actually trained a Growlithe to actually to be a member of my team before so I have a question: according to serebii.net, Growlithe learns Flamethrower at level 49 and Arcanine learns Extremespeed at the same level. I want both moves so would it work if I level my Growlithe to 49, learn Flamethrower, evolve her and learn Extremespeed? I just wanted to ask before I possibly do something stupid... :D

    You'll have to go to the move tutor when you've evolved it but yeah he czan get both that way
     
    I'm pretty sure that, when it is at 49, it can learn Flamethrower. Then you can use a Fire Stone to evolve it then it will instantly want to learn Extremespeed.

    Just to clarify, as there are some common errors on this page, LEVELLING GROWLITHE UP TO 49, THEN EVOLVING HIM AT 49 INTO ARCANINE, WILL ALLOW HIM TO LEARN BOTH FLAMETHROWER AND EXTREMESPEED.

    Right, hope it clears it up, because a few people seems to think the tutor is involved. He is not!!! Even back in R/B, for example, Shellder/Cloyster, Shelly learned Ice Beam at level 50, then evolving him at 50, allowing Cloyster to learn Spike Cannon, at 50 also.

    Flare Blitz wasnt a GBA move, new to Gen 4 games. And to answer your question anyway, there are 2 ways.

    1. Train Growlithe to level 34 to learn Flamethrower, then to 48 to learn Flare Blitz, evolve him, then go to the man who will trade a Heart Scale for teaching your Pokémon a previous move. Arcanine will have Extremespeed in its list of available moves.

    or

    2. Flare Blitz breed a Growlithe (breed one so its egg move is Flare Blitz), then train it to level 34 to learn Flamethrower, and evolve it either at any level between 34-39, so Arcanine will learn Extremespeed itself at level 39.
