If you've reached the postgame of the Let's Go games, you'll have probably crossed paths with Green - this universe's version of Leaf who is borderline obsessed with catching Mewtwo. And oh boy, she gets downright mad at you when you beat her to it.

My question is, why is she so hell-bent on catching it?

The Evolutions short she was featured in implied that she wanted to be the first to register it in the Pokédex. However, Green's characterization in that short isn't meant to be quite as single-minded about Mewtwo as her game portrayal is. Heck, whereas in the short she's just joking to Elaine about catching her, Green in the games looks and acts like she means that joke, even throwing Poké Balls at the player character. Now that's just weird, and it hints at a... darker motive for wanting Mewtwo for herself. What do you think that is?

world domination of course, it's not like there's any other reason to catch a legendary Pokemon

But in all seriousness, while I've never played LGPE, if I had to hazard a guess it would be that they were just simply emulating her bit in Evolutions but went a little overboard with her characterization.

So my best educated guess is that it's more of a combination of all the various forms of this character. She has a manga counterpart that dresses similarly as she appears in the game, and that same character eventually wears what leaf in LG wears.

So, in summary, this character that is hardly ever going to have screen time does not have a darker motive lololol 😆

I mean, Red, Blue and Green are meant to be iconic cameos. Ever since the first generation, there was that famous piece of Sugimori art with Red, Blue and an unnamed female trainer, each with a Starter Pokémon.

Red and Blue, we've seen since day one, and in GSC they were established as famed Trainers within the Pokémon world. But we didn't get a playable female character until Crystal.

Once HGSS rolled around, people were curious about Leaf - Red and Blue were clearly carried over from FRLG, but what about the female character? Nothing.

Meanwhile, in the manga, they'd given the "unnamed female trainer" plenty of representation, christening her Green and completing the trifecta, updating her with Leaf's outfit once FRLG came out. The characters are virtually identical.

But the fact remains that she hadn't been represented as an NPC. I honestly just think the Mewtwo stuff was something to add a bit of texture to her character; Red has always been the silent (non)-protagonist since GSC, so they wanted to go with something different for Green. Blue already pinned down the "wanting to be the strongest trainer" trait, so Green has more of a focus on catching the rare Pokémon.

Just some character design choices, I doubt they intended anything more nefarious.
