(NOTE: I've heard this works for some people on Crystal?)

Here's a nice little trick I use in my Silver game to get all three starters. It takes quite a while, but it's worth it in the end, especially if you don't have a gameshark or a ROM.

First start the game normally. Get up to the point where you're about to pick your starter and SAVE. After this you CANNOT save. Now pick your starter. You might want to restart to get the right gender, if you ever do that. Right.

Now you have your starter, Keep playing the game until you can catch pokemon. DO NOT SAVE during this time. This is the part that takes long - going through the plot at the beginning, getting the pokedex, battling/naming your rival, etc. Once you can catch pokemon, catch one, and go to the PC in the Pokemon Center. DO NOT SAVE still. Deposit your starter into the PC. Now change the box. It will tell you to save. Just as it's saying "..DON'T TURN OFF THE POWER" Turn off the power. Don't listen to it. It doesn't know what it's talking about.
Right when the word "THE" finishes, shut it off. Timing is very important. You will lose your saved game and be back in Elm's lab. Don't panic. You still have your other starter; trust me, look in the PC. Now choose whatever starter you didn't choose, nickname it, get the right gender etc. And repeat the process until you have all three. This takes a veeeeeerrrrrrrrrrry long time. But, you will get all your starters! :D

Hope this helped. It's rather handy for those of us with only a cartridge and a system, takes longer but you don't need a gameshark! x3
If you want to do the cloning trick, which is similar to this, do the same thing, but save in front of the PC before you do the deposit/change thing. You will have one of the pokemon in your party and one in the PC.

Nice trick, but I don't think that trick would be very useful, as although you can get all three starters that way, it would be cheating and too cheap, and besides, the other two starters won't be recorded on the PokeDex.

Besides, it doesn't make any sense to have all three starters when your rival has already stolen one and the last one is lying on the table, although you have the starters with you.
It could ruin the storyline, you know. And raising the three starters can be a pain, as none of the starters in Johto are that appealing or powerful enough like the ones in Kanto or Hoenn. Also, many of us know this trick already. But it's okay, you're helping some of the people out (the cheaters and the cheapsters, of course).

PM me if you want to be friends. And I didn't mean to dishearten you.

This is a nice tid bit of info, but not really necessary to be made since no one really asked about this and it is pretty pointless to have this. The good thing is that this info will still be here but just closed.

    Closed-

o_o; I see no reason for this to be closed; it's a helpful trick and at least if it's open, people can comment on it too. We've had things like this in the past and people would comment to ensure it actually worked or comment to disprove it, so it all worked out. *reopens*

I've tried this before for fun...In my opinion, it's a great trick for first-time players of G/S, because it makes the game slightly easier.

Oh, one more thing...This does NOT work on Crystal version. Well, at least not on mine, anyway.

You might just get another G/S/C and trade your starter onto your original game and then start again to get the other one too.
Yeah, but that would require two versions of the game, two GBSc and a link cable. Not everybody would have access to those things.

It's a cool trick, I wish I'd have known it when I was playing through Pokemon Silver.

Ah ok, I'll put that on there :P Thanks x3

It does work on Crystal, coz that's the only one I've tried it on so far. Sometimes it just takes a couple of go's to get it right. The first time I tried it my second Pokemon ended up being renamed ??????? and my game would freeze when I tried to use it. I tried the whole thing again and I got it right.

I spent a few hours trying it and only ended up with one starter...The one I picked the last time I tried it. I suppose my game is cursed or something. -_-

if u want all the starters, just trade. its easy and u willhave data 4 the other 2. and u dont need perfect timing eather. that REALLY sounds 2 difficult. my way IS quicker, but u will need 2 games, 2 gameboys, and a link cable so mine is the expensive but quicker way.

shouldn't this be posted in the glitch forum. it works for gold, trust me.

I would want to do it the honest way by geting another game and trading there

Helpful, but I'm not one to rely on glitches (I wouldn't really call this a cheat, as it's not really gonna give you any massive advantage.)

I've done this trick before. I don't know about you guys, but the first time I did it, my Cyndaquil (which was the first poke I chose then Deposited) had the name ???[continuous]. So if I were to go into battle with it, it would say Go! ??? and I'd never be able to battle with it, it would just keep the ?'s coming. So I decided to fist deposit a Pidgey, and then my Cyndaquil, and everything was fine. Maybe it was just me, but in case you haven't done this handy lil' trick, be cautious about the first poke you choose, you may never be able to use him. And also, whoever said that the 2 starters you chose previously, before getting the final one, won't appear in the PokeDex, is right--they won't. Which is a shame.

    the roflzorz

it didn't work for me, because i tried it it didn't work so i just swapped them with my mates lol for stuff like .4 because my mate got .4 off me cuz i had 2 and it told him:

    basically.

There's a glitch like this on Yellow, except it's so you don't have to get Pikachu. I'll post it in another thread to avoid spam.

This seems nice, but it is like when you clone a pokemon, the game doesn't get so fun with cheats
