Use this thread to discuss the changes in attacks in Generation V, ranging from base power to secondary effects and things like that.

Growth was a nice one Being very useful for serperior due to its averaged attack stats. Although I think one its abilities reverses stat changes in the dream world might ruin a chance to us this move.

They didn't nerf it. They changed it back to what it was originally. Hypnosis's drop happened in HG/SS.

To try and keep this thread from locking as Hypnosis really isn't something for B/W discussion gunna move it towards what you think about all the move modifications that were made in Gen 5. I don't think this was discussed yet.

A great deal of attacks were changed accuracy wise.

Base Power was changed for another great deal.

Some even got new bonuses like Growth who now raises both Special Attack and Attack. +2 to both in Sunny Day.

    Actually, it was in Platinum.

Lovely idea, edited the title to reflect that as well as the first post. :) Nothing else to add, though, just letting you guys know that you can now discuss attack changes all you want!

Explosion's inability to halve Defense before hitting doesn't make it useful as it was for the first 4 generations. That annoyed me. What also annoyed me is that Taunt and Encore now last 3 turns

However, I liked Growth's improvement of being the same as Work Up except its effects get doubled in sunlight

Oh that would explain it. My last game before my white was diamond. If I remember correctly hypnosis had 70 accuracy. But 60 stil annoys me because any lower and you might aswell be as accurate as dynamic punch. (I think that was 50 accuracy was it not?)

Anyway I did enjoy a few move changes which I will now edit the front post to make it fit the topic you've turned it into.

I was shocked at looking at the list that Poison Gas once had a 55% chance of hitting; that is insane. I just don't understand why in 5th Generation, weak moves went down, shouldn't it stay the same or go up?

What was the Pokemon Company thinking when they lowered the accuracy of a move within the same Generation? How can they possibly explain this one? in my opinion, Hypnosis should have the same accuracy as Toxic

I do NOT wish for that to happen. Opponents would be extremely annoying x.x (On a side note, there already is a 100% sleep inducing move, though it is quite exclusive)

On the topic itself, ExtremeSpeed is now +2. It could be helpful but only in a situational manner.

Although I think one its abilities reverses stat changes in the dream world might ruin a chance to us this move.
Bit of slightly unrelated to topic argument, but Contrary is probably one of the most broken abilities. Leaf Storm + Contrary Wreak havoc to many pokemon that don't resist it.

I was really shocked when Tackle became more accurate and as powerful as Cut. Cut is so useless now. Tackle makes Pound and Scratch inferior now. I could understand it being raised on level with them but with Cut...

Darn got to the tackle one before me. I was playing fire red thismorning for my little brother and realized that. I would actualy like to see useless HMs to get a boost.

Cut would be nice to have the ability to actualy cut grass like it could in gen3. But as always the only HM I enjoy using 100% is surf.

See I didn't know about Explosion and Self Destruct. That seems a major crippling feature, but the battle mechanics seemed to have changed slightly for calculations or something as I receive more damage from some unchanged attacks from Pokemon I transferred over.

As for Contrary, Swagger and Flatter and other moves easily cancel it out plus add negative status XD.

I love how the trapping attacks do more damage and some of the multi hit attacks as well. They were always so useless to me but now they are awesome.

And Tail Glow now raises by 3 stages.

Drain Punch having its power raised to 75 (along with Giga Drain, and the addition of Horn Leech) was awesome. I wish it was still a TM. But, now, Drain Punch is pretty much Brick Break with the added benefit of draining HP, minus the Light Screen/Reflect breaking.

The move Scald is an awesome concept, in my opinion. A Water-type move that can cause a burn? Yes please! A Water/Fire Pokemon would be perfect for this move. I also think Scald would have fit well on more Fire-types, as well, other than Emboar who doesn't really make very good use of it.

Hex... perfect on the Litwick line if they have Flame Body. They get inflicted with a burn, then hit with a 100BP Hex from a Chandelure who has the highest Special Attack of all non-legendary Pokemon.

Drain punch did get a nice boost.

As for tail glow which was mentioned... I think only a few including volbeat learn that if I remember correctly.
