Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There

In August of 20XX, a portal to a parallel world, known as the "Gate," suddenly appeared in Ginza, Tokyo. Monsters and troops poured out of the portal, turning the shopping district into a bloody inferno.

The Japan Ground-Self Defence Force immediately took action and pushed the fantasy creatures back to the "Gate." To facilitate negotiations and prepare for future fights, the JGSDF dispatched the Third Reconnaissance Team to the "Special Region" at the other side of the Gate.

Youji Itami, a JSDF officer as well as a 33-year-old otaku, was appointed as the leader of the Team. Amid attacks from enemy troops the team visited a variety of places and learnt a lot about the local culture and geography.

Thanks to their efforts in humanitarian relief, although with some difficulties they were gradually able to reach out to the locals. They even had a cute elf, a sorceress and a demigoddess in their circle of new friends. On the other hand, the major powers outside the Gate such as the United States, China, and Russia were extremely interested in the abundant resources available in the Special Region. They began to exert diplomatic pressure over Japan.

A suddenly appearing portal to an unknown world—to the major powers it may be no more than a mere asset for toppling the international order. But to our protagonists it is an invaluable opportunity to broaden knowledge, friendship, and ultimately their perspective towards the world.

Hope it turns out to be as entertaining as Danmachi. Or more. :3

I wasn't going to try it but I found out Risa Taneda is voicing the girl with that huge axe.

That's probably a terrible reason for trying a show but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I hear bad things then I hear good things, I'll have to see for myself. At the very least I won't be going into this expecting a 7/10 or higher show.

edit: ...yeah, I think I might just skim the reddit threads for this show for pictures and to see what people are talking about. Doesn't seem like I'll enjoy it. It's only been one episode and I don't like this guy already.

Being recently new to anime, I wasn't aware that we were about to enter the Summer season of new anime. I was pleasantly surprised to see a load a of new anime crop up at crunchyroll :D

Watched this one, wasn't too impressed/unimpressed. After reading through these posts, the setting was made a little clearer for me. I'll continue to watch this one, at least for now.

Alright, that was REALLY slow for my taste, but it's too early to say anything else.

Gonna give this a shot in an hour or so. Hope it isn't underwhelming. I already have the episode downloaded, after all. Otherwise it'll be a waste. :p

I'll be back with my impressions once I'm done watching. I hope I get to see the yellow haired chick. She's 2cute. Also that black haired chick is pretty too. Wanna see them both!!

I liked how some of them had their priorities really straight this ep. People were getting killed left and right our MC only cared about his doujin circle event getting cancelled lol. And then there's that other guy who was wondering if there are catgirls on the other side rather than caring about what kind of monstrosities or other dangers await them. It was sort of funny.

Then there's this thing about them marching straight ahead with all of their army units without sending any person or a group of people in there for reconnaissance before - you know, to check if the area is safe to enter for such a large task force complete with tanks. But nope. We gotta be all dramatic and storm the place! :b

Overall, this is one of those shows I think might get better over time. Right now, nothing special. OP is okay (I DIDN'T GET TO WATCH MY BLONDIE AND MY GOTH LOLI IN ACTION [for more than a few seconds anyway] SO NO COOKIES FOR YOU), characters seem okay and the premise, despite being ridiculous, has potential. Pacing was awkwardly slow so far but hopefully that'll get better.

Doesn't seem like a standout series right now. But maybe it'll change.

They did? I don't know how I missed that. :? Then that aspect is cool. Ignore I said anything about that lol

It was the transition black screens specifically saying "3 months later" and some of the soldiers? or was it news reports? talking about the recon teams sent to check things out. XD

Edit: Was a fun episode. We got to see a focus on the Imperial Politics and such. What a wily emperor, creating an "Allied Army" of neighboring countries to wipe them out in a single wave. Hi Princess Pinia Colada!

And so... NeoCon Amurricah shows it's head. Considering the current Neoliberal hegemony I wouldn't be so shocked if this is how things turn out. Expanding markets w00t!

Though letting Japan foot the bill on this campaign is quite interesting, might actually get the deflated Japanese economy get going again considering it's dire straights in that timeline.

Piña Colada is definitely the worst name the author could ever come with lol.
Another slow but well delivered episode. And the best part...
