I love Mato's artwork, but he stopped drawing after book 9...
Anyway, I stumbled onto this fan website....

    https://www.stormpages.com/hotterthanhell/notseries/mato1.html
    https://www.stormpages.com/hotterthanhell/notseries/mato2.html
    https://www.stormpages.com/hotterthanhell/notseries/mato3.html
    https://www.stormpages.com/hotterthanhell/notseries/mato4.html
    https://www.megspace.com/entertainment/hotternhell/mato/mato.html

Whoever drew that must be a real pro...
Although this website's about another manga, it's no doubt that these pictures are drawn Mato style. I wonder if he is an artist of other manga titles, must check out...
    (And Satoshi too)

Edit: Looks like I got the details at https://www.madkukkii.com/chi/chid.html . Mato was a guest artist in one of those Gundam manga books...
To look for information on the authors and artists on the internet is like finding a needle in a haystack (to me)...

Mato is a very good Artist.I miss his art. What is Mato doing now?

I dunno. From his style of work, I think he might be one of the older generation of Manga artists (very experienced). His chibi style is rarely seen in newer manga artists. He could have retired, I think.

I hope Mato has a comeback someday.I wish i could get a autograph of him on my Pok?star Comic ^^.
The new artist Sotoshi Yamamoto is very good too but i like Mato's chibi style more.

I feel like doing some more research if possible...

I love his style too, although Satoshi's is good in some aspects. I wrote a comparison for both of their styles in my opinion:

    Mato
    1) Depicted Red, Yellow, Green, Gold and Silver.
    2) Has contributed much for the Pokemon Special Manga to gain popularity for a total of 9 volumes
    3) Style---Chibi-ish. (Chibi=Cute) Uses a cute style to draw the comics, giving it a cartoon-like effect and thus making it appealing to children. Style allows him to throw in some cute and light-hearted puns (and humour) into the story.
    4) Has a special style of drawing chibi legs, which looks like stumps.
    Draws children better.
    5) Mato has basically 5 styles for eyes: (Usually) 2 for girls and 3 for boys, some that can hybridise to cater for an opposite gender.

    Satoshi Yamamoto
    1) Depicted Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, and previous characters from Volumes 1-9 in his own style
    2) On some pages, frames are awkwardly aligned and with leftover white spaces (Why? I don?t know =P)
    3) Style---Detailed-based, very good at drawing scenery and scenes involving a lot of action and suspense, giving the stories a movie-like effect.
    4) In characters like Falkner and Bugsy, where Mato had given them black-coloured eyes with the usual top-shine, Satoshi drew them in his own style; now the two characters have another portion of shine at the bottom of their eyes.
    5) Added hair shine to certain characters that do not have them before (eg. Silver)
    6) Depicted Prof. Oak more plump than what Mato had.
    7) Draws adults better.
    8) Initial drawings of Crystal in Book 10, especially her profile looks sometimes awkward, but improves in Book 11.
    9) Because his style is almost close to Mato?s, there isn?t much of a drastic change except for the points that are stated above.

Aha! I knew it! Red was based out of Duo's bangs and Yellow's face was based out of Quatre's face! XD Oh I knew those Gundam Wing characters look so familiar... XD (the most amazing thing I discovered when I realize that Quatre means four...) XD lol j/k

    1) What is PokeSpecial?
Also known as Pokemon Adventures in the US, this manga is started by Hidenori Kusaka and Mato. Hidenori Kusaka creates the plotline while Mato does the illustration. However, according to the Netkun website, Mato got ill sometime during the GSC saga, and his job is taken over by Yamamoto Satoshi, who's doing illustrations for the manga til present. Yamamoto Satoshi is officially credited as the artist in Volume 10, where the Crystal saga began.
Now I know why Mato isn't drawing the Manga now...

That's sad... I hope he gets well soon... O-o

Jsut to think of it, I noticed that some Pokemon related creators get diseases... eg. Satoshi Tajiri... O-o

I think it must be due to their hectic work schedules. I read that Manga artists are always under pressure to submit their work in in time for publications in comic magazines...

Oh yeah. I was just takling to my friend about that. Comic artist have something like a week to draw. Mangas are painstakingly drawn. Those lines in battle sequences are actually hand drawn and those shades and those details are all hand drawn... O-o

:O*** i love those drawings, they are so awesome!! MATO was one of the first artists that i liked the drawing style of.

They also draw their manga in this unique cinematographic manner with lots of symbols into it. That's why I admire them ^^
    I want to be one too, but it isn't possible for me uu;;

[sarcasm]Of course it will happen to me! I'm Perfect![/sarcasm]

Ok... I'd love to be a Manga artist... And surprising, Duo is my favorite G-Wing Character... *wink*

EDIT- oni, it's been like a year or so, so I think Mato should be very healthy now.
