    So gang, what are your favourite Rivals from the pokemon games, and why? If you've forgotten them, I'll provide a list of them:

    Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow/LeafGreen/FireRed: Of course, your rival's name is Blue. He's the guy with spiky hair, is a constant jerk, and always leaves with his trade mark, 'smell ya later!'. He became the pokemon league champion before you, so, you have to have one final showdown with him in order to claim that title!

    Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver: Your rival is Silver this time, where he's... even more so of a jerk than Blue, and doesn't really care for how he uses his pokemon because he constantly thinks of pokemon has nothing but tools and always claiming that more power is important. He also has a hatred for team rocket. When you fight him on the Underground Basement in Goldenrod, he starts to question why he constantly loses, and soon realizes that maybe he have been treating his pokemon the wrong way. He gets better as time goes on, in which he treats his pokemon with more respect.

    Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald: This time it's either May or Brendan, depending on what gender your character is. They're your next door neighbours as they are also trying to fill up the pokedex. We don't see much from them past Lilycove city, but we could call on them anytime! There's also Wally who meets up with you near the beginning where you help him catch a Ralts. Eventually you fight him near Victory Road for the last time.

    Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum: Your rival is a kid named Barry who's your next door neighbour, but he's really impatient and likes to run a lot. You join him on trying to find Mesprit, until you two were attacked by wild pokemon, and quickly get out one of the starter pokemon to depend yourselves. You battle him several times, and in one time, you two team up to defeat two team galactic admins.

    Pokémon White/Black: This time you get two rivals: Bianca and Cheren! Bianca is pretty clumsy and airheaded, but she adores pokemon, and loves to travel alongside them. Cheren is cool and calculated who battles you several times and was even able to get all 8 gym badges and defeat the Elite Four. But for some reason, he hates the cold (but really, who doesn't).

    Pokémon White 2/Black 2: Your rival's name is Hugh here, where he liked to UNLEASH HIS RAGE and wants to put an end to Team Plasma, because they stole his sister's Purrloin. Other than that, he considers you to be his good partner!

    Pokémon X and Pokémon Y: Four 'rivals' this time: Serena/Calem (depending on your gender), Tierno, Shauna, and Trevor. Serena/Calem wants to be really good and strong pokemon trainers, so they do that by battling you throughout the game to test their own skills, and they also help you battle Team Flare from time to time. Shauna wants to find a dream of her own, so, she travels on her journey to get really great memories. Tierno is a guy who likes to dance, and loves to watch pokemon's attacks, and Trevor wants to compete with you on finishing the pokedex first.

    Sooo again, who is your favourite Rival, and why? What do you like about that rival in terms of personality, role in each of their represented game, and their pokemon?
     
    My favorite rival is probably Silver, because he actually has some reasonable character growth. I do like Cheren and Bianca a bit too, for similar reasons. And Blue. It's hard to not like Blue.


    You could argue that Barry and Hugh have character development too, but it seems kinda more like a random epiphany to me, and Barry's ADHD wears on me a bit after a while, as does Hugh's constant rage. And Hugh saying that I'm his sidekick. No no no. You're my sidekick, not the other way around.
    Ironcially, I like their battles musics the best out of all the rivals.
     
    I like Blue. He was just the one who seemed like he was most fit for the rival position. I haven't played X & Y yet though, and from some LPs I've watched, they seem to have interesting voncepts
     
    I have to go with Hugh. He's always fighting for things, and isn't, say, creepy or annoying like many prior rivals have been. And it helps that he wants to save his sister's Pokémon, which does get sad but it's just the kind of thing I like seeing.
     
    My favorite is blue, i have fought him so many times i can say his lines when i battle him with out looking. Oh and *hint hint* my username... :P
     
    Hugh and Silver by a large margin. Not only are they the most angsty rivals with the most character development, but their battle themes are the best among rivals in the entire series. :D
     
    Well, does Gary Oak count? I've always liked him more than Blue, or any other rival, really.

    Such a total D-bag, I love him! But if we're talking games, I'd have to say Silver. He's a lot ruder than Blue, but his dark past and hatred for Team Rocket (how could you hate TR?), as well as being Giovanni's son, makes him so much more interesting than most other rivals (especially the Gen 6 ones!).
     
    Definitely Blue, as he's, y'know, the original. Unlike many other rivals, this guy actually managed to become champion before you did. Plus, I really like his outfit design; it's pretty cool! Second favorite would be a tie between Brendan and May, with Silver being third. :]
     
    Silver, HE STEALS HIS OWN POKEMON!!!!!! NOTHING WILL EVER GET EQUAL TO THAT!!!

    Although every Rival has his unique character you eventually get to love (or hate), i think there is no better rival than the original Blue. He was the one that was always mocking you, laughing in your face and pushing your buttons. Plus he is the only rival thas has also been a League Champion, even if its only for a short moment.
     
    Somehow I like Cheren because he is very knowledgeable than us players and Bianca and that's why he got his first job as a gym leader :P

    Second goes to; Barry, because whenever your late, he will fine you ridiculously and he is quite funny guy**

    Third; Hugh because he's a deep caring guy and cares his sister, despite explosiveness he throws at past plasma and neo plasma. So tedious and so LOUD

    And I like Wally despite he is pesudo-rival and thank goodness he doesn't have a starter pokemon which deal super effectively and I feel bad for him being sick and all.
     
    I think a rival should be someone you have extra motivation to beat. I only really got that with Blue and Silver since they're both jerks. All the other rivals were too friendly to me to consider them true rivals. Those two felt like true rivals like Vegeta, Kaiba or any other secondary character you could name.
     
    I like Silver, especially with his dubious background clearing up in HGSS (Being Giovanni's son).

    He's sneaky, and warmed up to you at the end, I feel that despite all the new graphics and things, he's still the most developed in terms of character.
