    Pokémon Lore Discussion

Recently, I've become a little interested in the history and legends of stuff of Pokémon, mainly GSC and HGSS because they are my favourite generation. Anyways, I thought it would be cool thing to discuss your favourite legends, stories, history, etc. If you find any interesting stuff, I guess I'll put it up on this post.
Also, lore into the game development and creation would be cool too.

Each Pokemon Generation has always come with its special Legendary Pokemon that are more powerful than most of the regular pokes out there. People always talk about their favorite legendaries, mostly because they tend to look so awesome.

But also, nearly every generation (except the first one) comes with a certain 'concept for their legendaries', such as the battle between Groudon and Kyogre who want to expand land and water, and Dialga and Palkia who control time and space. Lugia and Ho-oh have less of a concept behind them, but they are more thoroughly described than the bird trio in generation I: Lugia sleeps in the sea to avoid causing damage with its wings, and Ho-oh brings eternal happiness to whoever sees it.

What is your first legendary pokemon concept?

Mine is Kyogre vs. Groudon vs Rayquaza: even though I've played all the generations, Emerald was my first game. My best memory is seeing Rayquaza descending from clouds in a ray of golden light with holy music playing. It was.... So epic =)

My favorite legendary trio, mainly because of their story not being too cliche like the others, is the Regi Trio (excluding Regigigas). But I took the time to read through all the braille text back in the RS days, and from what I recall, the Regi trio was shunned by humans, hence why they are locked away in their respective caves. And even though the way to obtain them is cryptic, it is so nostalgic for me, and I even find it fun. But anyway, that's my favorite legendary lore. You actually have to find this out on your own and not through every NPC in the game.

    Spoiler:

Some think the "it" that is referenced means Regigigas, and not the original trio. But that wouldn't make too much sense seeing that it'd be weird to go as far away as Sinnoh to lock away Regigigas, plus the other three were locked away. Hm.

Edit: lol merge. Don't need two topics that are generally the same thing.

Kyorge, Groudon, and Rayquaza...if for no other reason than the fact that they're based roughly on the real-world Hebrew legend of the Leviathan, the Behemoth, and the Ziz, although the Ziz of the real-world legend is more of a griffin than a dragon. XD

The weather trio is one of the more interesting ones for me, followed by the Regis (I guess because I started with Generation III games). Being the embodiments of land, sea, and sky just seemed so...fitting, IMO. Plus, the tales of the Regis being hidden in the text, coupled with a reference to something in Sinnoh, made them a bit more...intriguing, I guess. I'm inexperienced with the legends of Generation II and Generation IV because I haven't played those games, though Dialga and Palkia stabilizing time and space with each breath/heartbeat sounded cool.

I love the legend of how the Legendary Dogs of Johto were created though. Possibly being reincarnations of the Fire, Water, and Electric Eeveelutions, as well as signifying events that occurred during the tragedy of Brass Tower. Raikou representing the lightning that struck the tower; Entei representing the fire that burned the tower; and Suicune representing the rain that doused the fire afflicting the tower. Awesome way to forge a legend (personally, I'd like to fit Absol somehow in that legend, because it looks so similar to the Legendary Dogs IMO; like a forgotten 4th Dog that warns the populace of natural disasters... :))

I disliked how Regigigas, Lugia, and Ho-oh partially mimic what Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza represent, though. It seems like a reusing of a legend... :( Luckily, Lugia and Ho-oh have other things they represent (i.e., Lugia signifying storms, Ho-oh signifying rainbows/cessation of storms).

    My favourite legendary is Mewtwo.
Yellow was my first game I ever played, Mewtwo was uber cool back then, lurking in the depths of Cerulean Cave.

I very much love the Johto legends too, the Brass/Tin Tower concept. Bulbapedia was telling me that the Tin Tower was called the tower of awakening, being in the East, and the Brass Tower was the tower of rest.
In the anime, the fire was started by a war, but the game said a lightning bolt, a raging fire and a sudden downpour. The fire went for 3 days and killed 3 unnamed Pokémon and Ho-oh returned briefly after the fire and restored the lives of those 3 Pokémon and reincarnated them as Raikou, Entei amd Suicune and are a reminder of the events that happened.

But what I really wanna know is the history of the Unown. The third movie has always been my favourite and I really wanna know how the Ruins of Alph came to be. As a 7 year old, I always wanted to know why the Unown Dex had the words they did. I thought it really meant something.

If Pokémon Company release a history book (based on the games), I would totes buy it.

Wow, I'm ashamed to say I had completely forgotten about that whole Regi story (which I actually did go through). Now I remember: since Emerald was my first game and everything, I was really confused at everything, from the Unknown writing to the Wailord and Relicanth mysteries. But I actually did manage to solve it. I definitely enjoyed the mysterious clues and the fact that you needed to catch rare Pokemon to activate the three legendaries. And I was so proud of myself for solving it x) But yes, the Regi trio is also a great story. Hoenn is just amazing in general.

Lugia and Ho-oh aren't mimicking the weather trio. If you're thinking that the concepts were reused, then the weather trio are the ones that are reused, and not Ho-oh and Lugia. Regigigas on the other hand...I don't understand him much. I never really bother trying to catch him because I don't like having to transfer all three Regis to the game.

I also like the song from the Power of One and when I was little, I made words to it and sang it in the shower. /runs away

XD same here! first game ever! and my favorite legendary!

I like Sinnoh's creation myth (when Arceus created Dialga, Palkia, Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf (the former 2 balancing out time and space and the latter 3 giving humans the characteristics needed to function in life)). It's the most logical myth among the Pokemon myths, IMO.

Yeah...it's weird, I played RSE first, so the Johto legends are 'newer' to me despite having preceded the second Generation...plus, it seems like Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza fit the land-sea-sky theme much better than Lugia, Ho-oh, and Regigigas do. Regigigas is the only other legendary associated with land/continents besides Groudon, so that's why I say he sort of mimicked Groudon's concept... (however, he was mainly responsible for just moving the continents, not actually creating the landmasses).

I personally have always found Regigigas to be a little "off". I just think he's a little awkward, considering that he appears in a different region, and we didn't know about him creating the three Regi's before. The Normal type isn't exactly the most dramatic one, either. He also just doesn't look that slick: just a thick, bulky moss-growing piece of normalness.

His ability doesn't really do much either: it's obvious that Game Freak wanted to create the effect of "this Pokemon is so powerful and awesome that his stats have to be halved", but it just feels weird.

    I LOVE LUGIA. Nuff said
lol jk. i love him because hes like a Jet/Bird hes a hybrid! i love how complex he is in the movie, like he shifts into jet mode when he folds up his flaps on his back. You may ask why Ho-oh didnt get a movie... its cause lugia is better :D kbai
