Just curious, because I'm toying around with my Ampharos...

    And working on its moves.

Yes during heavy rain they almost never miss.

Most electric attacks are reliable enough anyways...the only ones that really benefit from rain dance are Thunder and Zap Cannon. >_>

Zap Cannon isn't affected by rain, only Thunder is. It isn't 'never misses' either, it's just 100% accuracy instead of the usual 70%. Also in DP (not Pt or HGSS) it will hit through Protect and Detect (and maybe Endure, I'm not sure) 30% of the time.

How does Zap Cannon benefit from Rain Dance?

That's funny. I make my Ampharos use Thunder during Blastoise's Rain Dance whenever I fight RED (Obviously the originals, not the remakes). But yes, as said before, only Thunder is affected by heavy rain.

Come to think of it, why did they use hail in Red's battle in HG/SS? Why not make it take place in Heavy rain and Thunder > Thunderbolt on Pikachu? It would emphasize his signature Pokemon more, and rain is simply the weather of choice for epic situations.

It was raining, only Red's chilly presence caused all the water droplets to freeze once they left the atmosphere.

    Here's the deal:

    In rain, Thunder never misses.
All other electric attacks are completely unaffected.

Ah,good times playing with thunder. In Leafgreen
    Zapdos LV52 vs Champion's Blastoise LV63
    OHKO With thunder.
Ironic part was that he used Rain Dance for me.

They probably switched it to Hail just to prevent people from taking advantage of the Rain Dance+Thunder combo and using it against Blastoise, since that would make the battle much easier. Plus, Hail actually does damage to the opponent.

The AI in the game probably isn't clever enough to go "Okay, there's Rain Dance on the field, that means I should send out Pikachu to use Thunder now," so using Rain Dance to benefit Pikachu would probably not work out too well.

The game designers probably wanted to emphasize the challenge rather than epic weather choices. :P When they want to set an appropriate mood, they add a unique battle theme. If they always used heavy rain then the player could wipe out their opponents with Water moves and with Thunder.

Yeah thunder never misses if rain dance is activated. I say the 2 moves are a rip off cuz you can win easily sometimes. lol

It's not that much more accuracy. Thunder almost always hits as it is. I don't think it would be a concern for them.

What? Thunder only has a 70% accuracy, it doesn't "almost always hit", maybe you're just lucky. And it's not a slight accuracy boost, it never misses in rain, not even if the opponent has Double-Teamed, and it can even hit through Protect/Detect.

70% is a lot. You get 10 PP with it and on average 7/10 of those will hit, I consider that 'almost always hits'. It's only as much benefit as you'd get from raising the power by 50% (like with Water).

And the Protect and Detect thing is only in DP, not PBR, Platinum or HGSS (or anything prior to DP). And it will only hit through Protect and Detect 30% of the time.

and it can even hit through Protect/Detect.

Huh? You're very wrong. You never tried it yes, yes...

    LOLZ

The only move that can hit through them is the move Curse(ghost style).

Thunder will never miss because the user will call upon the lighting bolts in the above thunderclouds, which is everywhere because it's been summoned by a Rain Dance.

Thunder without Rain Dance came from the user itself, so it has limited accuracy, with a sudden surge of high electric power. Thunderbolt is the same, only weaker.

Zap Cannon is actually a form of ball lighting, which is a slow moving kind. That's my its accuracy is 50/50. You need to have Lock-On to have 100% accuracy.
