Hey everyone (new to the forum), I'm at a crossroads of what to do at this point in the game. I just defeated Clair, and I'm now in the Dragon's Den and very tempted by the Dratini floating around. I like my entire party but I've decided that if someone has to go, it's going to be my Scyther (whom I was also contemplating evolving into Scizor).
    My team:
    37 Typhlosion
    34 Gengar
    34 Ampharos
33 Lapras (considering switching to Seadra/Kingdra?)
    33 Scyther
    32 Murkrow
Since I really don't have a preference, I'll let you guys help me decide which pokemon to pick. Also, would Scizor be a better addition to my team? Admittedly, i do need another tank though Lapras is great.
Please post any and all ideas to this noob, thanks!

IF that's for the Pokemon League, It's perfect since if you switch to Kingdra, you'd have a pokemon weak to dragon type moves. Lapras can learn Ice Moves that can pwn Lance and still tank. =D

Scyther/Technician with Bug Bite and Wing Attack would be a good choice so you can pwn Will's psychics and Bruno's fighting types easily. (:

Scyther does not have Technician, I feel stupid for never getting it >.<
so you're saying don't go for Dratini or Kingdra? Confused on what you suggested, exactly :P

It all depends at what level you caught them, if you got scyther or kingdra at a low level i know lapras is at a moderate level why you can find it, ok back on topic.
if you raised Kingdra from a low level Horsea, go with Kingrda until the Pokemon League,
If you got Scyther from where ever at a low level i still would not use it because i think scyther is bug and i dont think scyther is super effective against anything but scyther is weak to quite a few things.
So if you go to Bulbapedia.Bulbagarden.net
you ca check which one you would prefer by checking what stats you want more of,

    Speed, Kingdra

    Defence, Lapras

So it ALL depends on what you are training for.

Hmm I'd suggest keeping and perhaps evolving the Scyther, although if you were willing to catch/breed a new one with Technician, that would be so much better. Dratini will take a while to become useful, and considering the choices of things to level on before your first Elite 4 attempt, you'd be hard-pressed to reach level 55 and evolve it into Dragonite.

Scizor, on the other hand, is very useful. From my own personal experience, my Scizor was able to sweep entire teams, especially since the Elite 4 members tend to set up on the first turn, which leaves you able to set up a Swords Dance yourself. But yea, even keeping Scyther wouldn't be a problem, but Scizor would be able to fit that more defensive role you want while still being an awesome powerhouse~

Lapras is fine, I think, but Kingdra is awesome, too, with the right moveset. x_x I'd keep Lapras since it's already there, and would be better for when you need to use Ice-type moves.

Guessing that you used Catch trainer pokemon on the Scyther, Kingdra and Dratini. Lol

    ... Huh? XD

    Hm...
Also, where's a good place to get/train Seadra/Kingdra around my level/area? I don't mind keeping my Lapras around for a while

At your point in the game, the only places you can get a Horsea are the Whirl Islands, or through your Pokéwalker, assuming you use one. As for leveling it, if you don't care about EVs, Water-types get some easy experience fighting the various Rock-types found in caves. Just keep fighting Geodudes/Gravelers all the way until it can handle the Rock and Ground Pokémon in Victory Road and that should get your Horsea up to speed.

I'd go for Scyther/Scizor, mainly because Dratini, Dragonair have pretty low stats and Scyther/Scizor have an attack stat that is pretty huge.

This sounds like a good idea although my Extremespeed Dratini is still very tempting...
I'll get Scizor, I don't know whether ishould breed himation this point now... does Scizor need Technician?

Technician is good if your Scizor has crappy moves like Cut. XD

lol I was more thinking that Technician is useful for the big move Scizor is used for, Bullet Punch. It's a base 40 attack power move with high-priority (like Quick Attack and Extremespeed), but with STAB and Technician, it has a 90 attack power rating, and with Swords Dance as an option, it just gets to be too powerful. xD

well i would pick syther(evolves into scizor) because he is bug/steel, i am a very intese battler and i use him in every fight, just get someone to evolve him for you and he will be very powerfull ^^ hope i helped

With the new In-game Team Help sub-forum, I'll just move this on over there.

Use Technician and Bullet Punch. You'll need a Heart Scale to teach Scizor Bullet Punch. They're rare-ish if you haven't found one yet, but it's totally worth it, since it's Scizor's strongest move. Since it's in-game, you can't learn some of Scizor's other moves yet, so make sure it has Wing Attack from its pre-evolution (L21), and the rest is pretty much up to you. He learns Swords Dance at level 57, but you'll probably want something else to fill up that slot. Quick Attack or Pursuit are viable.

I am gonna say Scyther/Scizor aswell 'cause of their stats, and they look way cooler :D

I would say keep Scyther, And evolve Him into Scizor, because u can always teach a single pokemon a Move that will overcome it's Weakness no matter what and plus having a Lapras, Is really all you need to not replace your Scyther with a Dratini. Becaue lapras can learn dragon moves i believe, so Keep that and evolve your Scyther if u need any Help planning your moves for your pokemon, Send me a PM my team Smoked the E4 No doubt about it. Was pretty good In 1v1 battles until i lost my Game :( Ill find it someday.....
