A few weeks back the symbol for the Dragon-type was revealed, as well as revealing Raikou EX from the Dark Rush set, which was released on December 16th, which was this past Friday.

I personally think the symbol's pretty cool, though it might take a bit of getting used to in order to associate it with the Pokemon TCG. I think it stemmed out of the need to reduce the number of Pokemon in the Colorless type, which easily has an high abundance of Pokemon just from Normal and Flying types alone.

That Raikou EX card looks pretty cool, but I'm not exactly sure how useful it will be in competitive play.

I have no opinions on the set itself, as I haven't really looked into it.

Thoughts on the symbol, the card, or the set?

The set symbol is great, and I like the idea of spreading types out. There are some types in the TCG which just encompass too many types, to the point where weakness and resistance doesn't make sense. Some fighting types are weak to water, some psychic, while some water are weak to steel and others lightning. It's not very consistent. This should help, even though dragon is kind of a niche type.

And I think raikou ex will make a bigger impact than you might think. Sniping for 100 is obviously great, as is his giant HP, and discarding energy isn't really a drawback when electric pokemon have pachirisu, shaymin, and eelektric to back them up. The only real drawback is the fact that it gives two prizes when knocked out, but it would be totally unfair if it didn't. I think, at least when it's first released, that people will be all over it.

I agree, I think giving up two prizes will just be too big of a drawback when zekrom + catcher accomplishes the same thing. Fighting pokemon aren't terribly fast to set up though, unfortunately. Donphan is the obvious counter, but you need to use heavy impact to knock it out and you'll never get three fighting energies set up on it. I would like to see an energy accelerant like eelektrick or pachirisu come out for any type of energy, that would make a lot of stuff playable including electric counters.

I'm happy that they've released a new dragon type ! I agree that it will definatley cut down the amount of pokemon in the "colorless" section, but also it may help decks become more themed in the sense of that alot of people would just throw in double colorless energy with dragons and people may have to start using dragon energies to go with the dragon type pokemon they're using. Would be nice to see a ghost energy in the future XD

I was expecting the symbol to be aquagreenish :( Ah well, Dark Rush is a pretty good expansion! :) I personally like Venusaur & Blazikin, the only card in the set i don't like is Empoleon. I wonder How Salamence will look!

New TCG Type

Serebii
The official site has posted, revealing the first Dragon-type cards. These cards are to be the first new cards to have a new type since Darkness and Metal were introduced in 1999. This new type is set to be implemented within the games in the new "Dragon Selection" set due for release in Japan on January 27th as part of a celebration for the Year of the Dragon. The cards, like the Dragon-types in the game, have a weakness to themselves and appear to require other energy cards to function. We'll bring more on this set as it comes and when it is released.

YES rayquaza!! :D!!!
Having weakness to themselves was expected, it makes a lot more sense than using dragons' other weakness, ice, seeing as that translates to water in the TCG. So far no sign of actual dragon energy though. I hope they do make that eventually.

I've not really played the TCG much, so I wouldn't be one to comment on balancing issues and whatnot, but it seems like a pretty nice idea. Certainly cuts down on the Colorless-Types, and variety is always good to have.
