So my friend got a Dolphan prime, it's a rock type card with a horrible pokebody that makes it near indestructable. He takes 20 less damage every turn and he can do 60 damage with 1 fighting card. he can do 90 with not negative effects with 3 fighting cards.

Anybody know a decent counter? Myt deck is grass and fire so getting a water pokemon is kinda out of the question.

Actually, there is a water Pokemon that you can use that will help tremendously, and can use one of any type of Energy, Gyarados from Mysterious Treasures. It's Dragon DNA Poke-Body allows you to use any attack from the Magikarp you evolved it from, and adds 30 damage on top of it. I'd use the Magikarp from Mysterious Treasures, because if Donphan attacks Gyarados with Earthquake (40 damage after Resistance), if you use Flail (Magikarp's attack), you can OHKO Donphan! (40 from Flail +30 from Dragon DNA x2 Weakness -20 Exoskeleton =120 damage for only one Energy of any type)

    Hopefully this helps.

^^^ It gives you a two prize advantage against Donphan, but it gives you bad starts. I tried it, and it works, but I just don't like playing it. It's the best counter, though... =\

Thanks, I'll have to hunt down those cards then. It's a shame there isn't an "instant death" card that removes it from the game but doesn't count as a prize card. I'm also looking into getting as many great basic level okemon as poissible (stuff like Heracross and Scyther).

Well, if you add some Plains, you could use Swords to Plowshares =\

That wouldn't work because the card game's based off the video games's combat system. :\

And then you could through in some Storm Crow and some Islands for some T3 super wins. (b'-')b

you can indeed use water pokemon, but also dialga & galactic hq kan do something. crobat G can help for make him KO, and gengar sf is always funny against pure damage decks.

Here can you also found more tips (only Dutch/Nederlands): Pokevana forum

Raigeki is still better ;o It's a spell, so it doesn't have a mana cost \o/

True, true. And so they can't stop your Raigeki with traps, a good old-fashioned Harpie's Feather Duster beforehand should take care of that. (b'-')b

On a serious note, if my memory serves, one or two people have had success against Donphan Prime with Jumpluff. My memory might be crapping out on me because it's been finals week for the past two weeks, though.

Someone mentioned Gyarados from mysterious treasures, but I'm surprised no one's said stormfront Gyarados. Gyarados is a really popular deck right now, it does 30X the number of Magikarp in your discard pile, meaning you can have 3 in the discard (one to evolve the Gyarados from) and do 90 damage plus 20 more with expert belt, and with Donphan that's 110-20 for exoskeleton which is 90, X2 weakness is 180 damage (obvious knock-out). Even without expert belt, the X2 weakness makes it up to 140 damage, which knocks out a Donphan with expert belt attached to it. The best part about this deck is that you can do it for no energy cost, and if you run cards like Felicity's Drawing, Regice, and Lunatone, you can discard the Magikarp really quickly. Until it rotates out, I'd say stormfront Gyarados is your best bet against Donphan.
