Notice that Giovanni's Persian has pink ears like a shiny one.

I think it is because that would explain whey he values it so much. However it may not be because he had that Persian before the release of shiny Pokemon.

Ah. Nice observation. It's tough to arrive at a conclusion because of the fact that a normal Persian and a shiny one are pretty similar except for those light pink ears. =\
After looking at some more of Giovanni's Persian's pictures, I think it is a shiny.

Even in this picture, you can notice the slight hint of pink:

Yes I think it is shiny because that's why he likes it better than a talking Meowth.

I think it is shiny, remember that there was also a shiny (pink) Butterfree in the original series.

Actually it is not shiny cause he had Persian before shiny Pokemon ever existed, that hint of pink is only due to the way the animators have coloured them. and also, that artwork is from FireRed/LeafGreen, ages after shinies were introduced.

Giovanni only treasures Persian most likely cause it was his friend since he was a kid

Interesting now that you mention Giovanni might have a shiny. This would probably explain why he loves his Persian so much. I showed this to my friends just now and they agreed as well.

Persian art from Gen 1, the Gen that the anime version is derived from, with pink ears. Easily pinker than Giovanni's Persian's, and a normal Persian's. And, in my opinion, the slight tint of pink is too small to even be considered.

To be honest, looking at other art and some sprites, the ear colour is fairly inconsistent, especially in the normal version.

That didn't really even count as shiny, considering shiny pokemon were only introduced in the second generation. The normal shiny butterfree looks like this:

See, not pink. (Well, maybe a little pink, but a different sort of pink, including green eyes and purpleness)
I guess it may have been a different colour due to it's origin. (where it was born) Places like the orange island had different coloured pokémon
    because of the climate.
    Wouldn't count them as shiny

I think it's safe to say that it isn't, shiny pokémon were only introduced in the second generation and Giovanni's persian appeared during generation one.

Take a look at serebii's animedex:
    https://serebii.net/anime/dex/053.shtml

Not much differences if you ask me, some may look a little pink, but thats just the shade (IMO).

Though Mew~ posted the actual shiny sprite I'd like to point out the theory where it was said that the pink Butterfree possibly came from Pinkan Island. It's an island featured in the episode "In the Pink!" where Pinkan Berries grow. When eaten they turn a Pokemon pink and if they are eaten enough the Pokemon becomes permanently pink. It's possible that's where that pink Butterfree is from. Another theory is that the pink coloration was just used as a visual for the kids to show them that she is special from the other Butterfree [especially to Ash's] and that she is female.

As for Giovanni's Persian being shiny...

    A wild Persian that appeared briefly in "Trouble with Paras".. it has the same pink coloration in it's ears that Giovanni's has. I'm pretty sure Giovanni's isn't shiny.. maybe he values it for a different reason, I'm not sure. XD;

I agree, as it would have been established, already. Plus, don't underestimate coloring errors.

I don't think he treasures the cat because of that, I think it's more his early Blofeld/Dr. Claw characterization the producers gave him. And they were cat lovers, too, which is probably the only positive thing you can say about any of them.

Thank you, I haven't yet seen that episode, I am only up to episode 41. After reading the posts in this thread, I'm starting to think that maybe Persian isn't shiny.

Persian, I wish there was a backstory on it. Now that I look at it I would be suprised if it was a shiny. I mean it's Giovanni for petes sake. Of course he would have a shiny :D

Oh, Persian gets way too little love. I've got to catch a Meowth next play through. I actually don't think Giovanni's Persian is shiny. THey would probably have shown it a little bit more clearer if that were so.
